So what ever happened to the PSP being used as a rear view mirror in GT5? I remember it was mentioned before but there has not bean any word since.

It was never really mentioned.
It was presented for Formula 1 Championship Edition but not included and some websites and people thought it was for GT5.

Correct, was originally shown to promote the F1 game and generate hype prior to the launch of the PS3 (I think!). The feature never made it to the game, and it has never been talked about in relation to GT5.

It would be a cool feature... but i think its not worth the effort if its difficult to do. I can't see anyone using it really... Unless they could use two as side mirrors :P

I can't imagine it ever catching on, thus why it never has from when it was first mentioned. It's just too finnickity to implement. Bit pointless too, it's not as though you can't have a mirror (or 3) on the display.

Although it is nice to have the mirror outside the display so it feels natural, doesn't encroach on your viewable area and also doesn't require zooming uncomfortably far back to keep in normal site.

This, while a decent concept, would simply not work in practice. For instance where exactly would you posistion the PSP so you could actually make out the objects in the mirror. I know I couldn't hold it while I was driving, I can't look in two places at the same time and it would make no sense to put it next to the tv as the view would be no better than what the in game mirror already provides. However all of this doesn't matter to me anyway, since I don't own a PSP.:sly:

Just make a mount for it somewhere, probably on whatever your wheel is mounted to ;) Its like saying there's no point having a manual shifter because you need to make somewhere to mount it. :P

I think it'd be pretty cool to have a PSP mirror which I mount next to my monitor (as I game on a PC monitor which I sit close to, not a TV). I never liked the idea of mirrors on the screen itself, as it requires you to be unrealistically zoomed out (wide FOV) to see them. You should be more zoomed in and the mirror next to your screen.

But yeah, whatever, even if the game did support it I wouldn't be opening my wallet for a PSP... never liked portables.

^ but you mount the shifter next to your body and many seats come with a place to mount shifters. Where would you mount a PSP to use as a rear view? Hang it off the ceiling?

On top of the telly - wait... that would't work either, my plasma's only about 1.5" deep so it would most likely take a dive from there and smash into a million pieces.
Think I'll just stick to the cockpit view with the mirror that comes with the car, thanks 👍

Well the logistics of physically mounting it is one thing, but no better than the game the mirror already provides?

As a side mirror I don't think that's necesarily true... you can keep the zoom in enough to keep a good view but still have full view of the side mirror. Currently it's a tradeoff between the two...

Now that's no way to talk! Get the measuring tape outt and mod that Playseat Evo. :D

I would run 3 PSPs as mirrors if it was an option and I'll bet I could make it look decent, spending under $50 to boot.

Anyone can! :)

Well a mirror in a real car is within arm's reach, so you'd just make something to mount it to whatever you mount your wheel on.

The problem comes when you use the games interior view but your TV is 2 or 3 meters away :P Which ends up being an unrealistic view anyway. But if you have your TV at a more realistic distance or use a PC monitor, it wouldn't be hard to make a mount for it.
