What features appear in this game that didn't in GT5?

Over a dozen tracks and several hundred races come to mind, and the ability to actually win a prize car a second time (outside of driving licenses and special missions). A B-Spec that you could run at 3X speed instead of having B-Spec races take twice as long as A-Spec. A-Spec points. Sane restrictions on entries in a race; you can't enter a Sauber C9 or a truck in a race for hatchbacks for instance.

There's more, how long a list do you want?

How about AI that you really had to work to defeat.
Multiple set-ups for your car (it was in GT5P)
Manufacturer challenges

Machine Tests weren't included in GT5, along with the Test Course. I miss them both to an extent.

Yea, me too. I do a lot of track testing ever since the first GT. I've always used the Test Track or Test Course. Since GT5 hasn't got a Test Course anymore, I've been trying to substitute Indy and Daytona instead, but ...

1. There is still no way (that I know of) to get a true 400M and 1,000M test.

2. Indy and Daytona have banked curves, but they are both too tight, which tends to erase any speed built up. Therefore, I can't get as high a top speed at either one of these tracks like I did in GT4. :grumpy:

Really, this is the main thing I'm missing from GT4. And a couple tracks like Sears Point Infineon and Capri. But there's rumors these tracks could come back. There's no reason why any of these tracks can't be re-used via DLC once PD gets its act together/PSN is back in action.

I've started with a driving simulator for the PC called iRacing. The physics are great, and the whole thing is based on one huge league system so it's great for competitive racers trying to keep our skills up with a sim.

It's a difficult adjustment from Gran Turismo because it's a monthly subscription service, like paying league dues, and you have to pay to get new cars and tracks and the license advancement system is entirely based on performance, not just completing a test. In general it's a more serious environment, with a sporting code you must adhere to and all that.

The variety of cars is low but the cars are all fun to drive and good for actually racing eachother with, and they're constantly adding to the game (they say 4 major updates per year, minimum.) They're releasing a completely new and advanced tire model in August, and they just released Okayama circuit for free to everyone.

It's $11 or so for a 3 month trial and my Driving Force Pro works perfectly using the Logitech Wingman application. Try it out if any of you want some real competitive sim racing.

(Racing in iRacing makes it feel like 35k miles in Gran Turismo 4 was training mode!)

^Yea, but isn't iRacing only on the PC? That immediately eliminates me from joining. I'd be curious otherwise. But actually, I really haven't got the time for any additional gaming.

We're getting massively off-topic already, but to sort of put us back on, wouldn't it be nice if GT4 and GT5 had some of the features found in ToCA and iRacing? Everyone complains about how easy the Ai is in Gran Turismo (4 as well as 5).

In my opinion, making it harder would be nice, but I'd rather see a more competitive environment with cautions, penalties, cars that have issues with overheating and tire blowouts, stuff like that. Making the Ai more difficult (in GT5) would only allow the hardcore gamers to use a more powerful car. So they use the more powerful car, the race is still easy because they're still blowing away the Ai, and they're still gonna be complaining.

Wouldn't it be better if PD implemented some of the features found in (like I said) these more hardcore racing games. The graphics in ToCA3 suck. They're so bland. But the action is incredible. GT5's action is better than GT4's, mostly because there's additional cars on the track and oversteer is much more prevalent in GT5.

But let's face it, ANY GT game can become "too easy" if the gamer is not limiting himself/herself. If PD could add some of these other features, it would make GT5 feel even less arcadey, and also force the gamer to consider other issues (other than out-cornering the Ai that is). [/parnelli on soapbox]

Damn, now I wanna fire up ToCA3! :(

I just recently switched to PC gaming. $400 for a computer that also does games, I run anything at 60 FPS on 1440x900x2. If GT5 isn't doing it for you guys, consider a switch to PC. rFactor, iRacing, GTR2, and the sweet rallyesim mod for Richard Burns Rally all become available, and all of them are going to see better development than the bloated console sims. If you want, PS3 and XBOX360 controllers work on a PC, for other kinds of games.

And if you really like it, you'll be able to upgrade to great levels of immersion. ;)

And just how is this relevant to GT4-GT5 features? Looks more to me like asn ad for some other game.

sweet, man!

The topic is GT4/5. Please stay on topic. We have other areas in this forum to discuss iRacing etc. 👍

I don't understand at all, but if it bothers you guys so much then I'll try to conversate as you would.

I was responding to the sentiment that people don't like GT5 and offering the alternative I chose, and I tried to lay out the pros and cons of the transition.

Pssst hey dogbreath! You're new here, and there are rules here against double-posting. Also, the thread did stray off-topic, which is my fault as well as yours. It's one of the rules here at GTP...threads gotta stay in-topic within reason. I was trying to...expand the topic a little, but oh well. This is supposed to be about only GT5 and GT4. :indiff:

Speaking of on-topic, I'm not sure if anybody has mentioned replays yet. Replays cannot presently be fast-forwarded in GT5 like they could in 4. And you can't fast-forward B-spec races either. All this stuff happens in real-time. I don't mind (yet) but there are dozens and dozens who do in the GT5 forum.

Sorry, I felt like I was adding to the topic, not detracting from it.

Edit: Also, GT4 is also way cheaper than GT5. Great for those of us in manufacturing states :P
