What happened to Music rally?

It is an interesting thing, however its really weird to have it separated off the main world map menu, as if it had huge importance

I can imagine Polyphony analyzing the test results of the final iteration of Music Rally and someone suddenly says "so what's the point?"

Interesting is a polite way of putting it. Downright bizarre is how I'd describe it :D

But appreciate maybe others enjoy it, buts 100% not for me.

It's interesting because its a different activity that brings variety. You hear music instead of the engine sound, which makes the gear changing more challenging

The fact that this stupid game mode is supposed to represent 50% of the game in terms of significance and hasn’t been updated since launch, says a lot about PD’s dysfunctional work ethic. Sony needs to start investigating the efficiency of their studios, because teams like PD is wasting so many valuable resources. Where’s the direction and leadership? Where’s logic and the understanding for what makes a great game?

I also don’t understand why PD assumed Music Rally could get a warm welcome. It’s so random and the tutorial with the Porsche 356 at Alsace left an incredibly indifferent first impression. I haven’t touched it since, and it wouldn’t surprise me if this is true for more than 97% of players.

Yeah fair enough, like I say if people enjoy it, that's cool.

When rest of game has gaping holes, is slightly irking that they spent time developing this mode tbh. PD have slight 'oddball' rep, but this isn;t a feature I like to see in semi-sim focused games. Leave it for arcade focused games imo. Not reason I play GT, thats for sure.

I'm not sure what they were thinking with this, like you say, must be tiny % of people that play gt and would appreciate this mode.

If rest of game was 'complete' maybe people would overlook it, but as it stands, just raises more questions.

Highly doubt that lol. I mean...
The menu designer probably had a brain fart or something, and didn't know where to place it

Because six months on, it still makes no sense. You're not "driving to the beat of music", you're just driving as fast as you can against the clock. Which is fine, nothing wrong with time attacks, but the music part makes no sense. You could just listen to any music and do a time attack and get the same effect, it's not a new game mode.

They may have realised it wasn't as popular as they thought it was going to be.
Truly shocking

Why do you highly doubt it? It’s right there at the home screen being presented as one of two major directions to go.

It’s not like it would have been difficult to find a place for it inside the World Map mode. They must have decided not to put it there because they saw it as something very important deserving immediate access.

Probably more to do with it being the main thing they offer you to do when offline.
Why though? Likely because they considered Music Rally as something being worthy of taking up a spot on the home screen. Otherwise they could just have made Arcade Mode the offline mode instead of integrating it within World Map mode.

If you tried to boot up the game while the game haven't yet downloaded & installed fully, you'll soon realize why Music Rally is awkwardly sitting outside of the main menu.

It's basically there for you to mess around while the game is downloading the rest of the game data. It's also probably explain why the game forces you into a music rally when you boot it up for the first time....As dumb as it sounds.

Other games does this whole partial installation thing: Overwatch allows you to mess around in the training mode, Sleeping Dogs lets you play the first 3 missions before booting you off to the main menu and Yakuza Kiwami 2 lets you room around a portion of kamurocho before letting you continue the story.

I have a theory that Music Rally's simplified HUD (and possibly physics) compared to the rest of the game, combined with its strange placement outside of the World Map, meant PD envisioned it as a kind of "kid's introduction to Gran Turismo."

But if that was the case, why make such a big deal about it before launch?

Maybe, but companies should not underestimate kids. I was 9 or 10 when the first GT game came out, and me and my friends at the time were drawn to its open-ended and almost strategic structure. Something GT7 totally lacks.

It's like most of the things Polyphony does. They have some "new wonderful" thing they are sure you will just "love" that they only use a couple times. I swear they all have ADHD and get hyper focused about little things then lose interest. Music rally is a good idea but the song choices get annoying after a few tries. Zoom zoom zoom zoom zoom...... come on....smh. They have so many better iconic Gran Turismo songs. Just One Second Apex remix would have been good.

Personally I (sort of) enjoyed it in the beginning. Played it while the game was installing. Never looked back after that and never will. It adds nothing for me personally, just a little gimmick. So Id say I hope htey spend 0 resources on this.

...I still remain the only guy on GTP who actually likes the Music Rally, huh? shrug =/

But hey, even I admit it being on the title screen and not in the missions menu is weird.

As for the lack of new content, yeah, that's also odd. But I kinda suspect they're working on it somewhat since Daiki remains as sound designer over at PD and that he just got some new sound equipment as seen on his Twitter.

Meh, who knows?

Hopefully Daiki will release a new song for GT7, perhaps for a potential Spec 2 of the game. It is a little weird how the latest Daiki Kasho songs we've gotten (besides remixes and remasters) are from GT6.
