What id like to see GT5

From playing most the GT series games up till 80% or more and reading previous threads. These are my thoughts on what id like to see more of or add on to if I were to market GT as my own game.

Like GT2 where you have 2 CDs. Sim mode and Arcade mode. The split in game styles will seperate the boys from the men. But using Both CDs will determine your worth.

Arcade Mode would be more focused on the racing side. Gives you upgrades in groups. Example (exhaust upgrade will give you air cleaner/filter & exhaust together in a package). Just like the other GT games. Its game play is focused on multiplayer racing. Online and multi system link. Having up to 16 players compete in a single track and have countless spectator spots. Spectator spots will not only watch the Race, but be able to communicate with other spectators. Another spectator option is the gamble system which in turn gives you a list of the current participants, you may place credits on your racer or car of choice. This is a very effective way of earning money. To
purchase new cars n parts. Or to bet more! for those endurance races, have other people race and make YOU money. Arcade mode's main purpose is to experience GT5 in the most simplest way possible without taking out what seperates GT from the rest of the racing games out there.

Simulation mode will be a totally different experience than the conventional racing game like Forza, Need for Speed, previous GT games, or the Arcade mode i presented. Simulation Mode will focus on making the player become more than just a player. Here ill list out what i would do if i were to engineere the game's sim mode.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tuning: More specific modifications and adjustments.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
In your hopes to create the most beastly car on the track. Focusing on just buying the most expensive part may make you more of a loser than you Think. Parts will be more specific and how you adjust each part in the Vehicle Settings Screen will be key in making the perfect vehicle for you, and your driving style.

Engine- In reality it would be nice to just say i want a stage 4 turbo on my car..and then it instantly happens and you can drive it any way you like. To bad you will deffinatly run into problems if you do that IRL. This is a sim mode, and id like to simulate physics down to the bone. In building your power plant. You will be given a menu with a series of catagories as you enter a shop. Like GT4 you will be given a list of popular 3rd party part manufacturers; HKS, RE-Amamiya, Tial, ApexI, Greddy, Haltec, Spoon, Nismo, Mugen, Mazda Speed, Rallyart, Edlbrock, srt, saleen, AMG ect. Each shop will have a different option of part to buy. Obviously Tial is not gona offer much, but you can buy different types of external wastegates with different spring packages. Greddy may offer several options; numerious ECU (ie: e-manage), lots of exhausts, few intakes, lots of intercoolers with different PSI and efficency ratings on them, not including tubing. Different size turbos, different size injectors, fuel rail. Also in different menus, Rods and
Pistons in different compression ratios, valvetrain upgrades with different types of Camshaft duration and lift specs (great For those american Cars). Cam gears, and stronger valves and springs / Rocker Arms and push rods.
Each part depending on what you buy and who you buy it from will effect your car.

Exhaust and Intake id leave seperate for various reasons. But still keep in the engines catagory. Air is a large issue that most tuners face. Just adding an air filter isnt gona give you very much IRL. Id implament a menu for Intake parts, and this would be good for those N/A guys. Cuz in previous GT games, turbo seemed the only way to go if you really wana win. But IRL built N/A engine do prove that forced induction isnt the only way to go. Short Intake runners, Independent Throttle bodies, Cold air intake filters, intake manifolds, pleniums, or even a no filter option for large turbo users and drag cars. IF you were to put a no filter option on a rally car or circuit car..the power would decrease gradually as you drive as to simulate you getting junk in your turbo propeller. Also this would be a great way to open more races that require N/A restricted motors or for N/A races online also.

Exhaust- WOW lets just add the biggest exhaust availible! id slap you if you did that to your car IRL. Adding part options such as downpipe, headers, main pipe, and muffler in all different bends and sizes will provide that you should be picky with your car. Adding a 3.5 inch main pipe, (which would include eliminating the cat and everything from the header or downpipe to the muffler and replacing it with a new pipe) to a 160bhp 1.8l inline 4..would deffinatly decrease performance more than actually increase. This will deffinatly give the rice boys something to consider. Everything is a learning experience. I would like to see better muffler sound bits. As IRL increasing the exit air flow in the exhaust would create a deeper resonating tone. All i heard what high pitch squealing sounds in GT4..which was irritating. Another option I would incorperate is to eliminate the muffler and main pipe and provide a cutout pipe that IRL would be located just before or where the catalic converter would be. Great mod for american muscle cars and Touring spec cars.

Transmission-Since theres not much actual super fine adjustments made in real life to drivetrain components, that has not already been covered in GT4 id not change the options to much.

Suspension - When you enter a shop, you also get a chance to purchase several different suspension components. From arms, tie rods, traction rods, stabilizer bars, strut bars, Springs, struts, coilovers, to different types of bushings, stronger axles for those FWD junkies, and wheel spacers. Also included in this menu are the brake upgrades. From crossdrilled, blank, slotted, or crossdrilled and slotted rotors with different sizes. 2, 4, 8, or 12 piston calipers. Different forms of brake pad. Lets say for example you choose the largest CD&S rotor in 14'. Then you MUST purchase an 8 or 12 piston caliper with it or it wont allow you to proceed. if you choose an 10' rotor you may purchase a 4 and 8 piston caliper, yet the 2 and 12 will be unavailible for purchase. The larger parts will cost more than smaller parts + the type of part.

---------------------------------------------------
Machine Shop:
---------------------------------------------------
There would be a Machine Shop availible in the game that you can choose from. This shop will give you several options.

Refresher plan - much like gt4, where if you were to purchase older cars, there would risk of distorted body and you want a straight frame to build off of.

Roll Cage - Gives you a list points from 6 to 32 points. The more points the more expensive. beware to many points could make your vehicle to stiff as a street car and you might not get the best stability without thinking of what else do you need to get rid of the possible outcomes of a chassis thats to stiff.

Spot Weilding - Strengthening the already exisiting body by weilding the bodies weak bends.

Port and Polish Head - self explanatory would include some Txt about a valve and seat grind for more airflow.

Cylinder Bore and Hone - Becomes availible for some cars or becomes availible with the purchase of certain parts. Lets say you do the 2.2 stroker kit on the SR20DET availible on the Nissan S-chassis. This option then becomes availible and you can take that upgrade 1 step further.

Engine balance - Would include reworking the crankshaft by micropolishing and redrilling and cutting. and make the rotation of the engine smoother. This deffinatly would improve engine and power to ground distribution.

------------------------------------------------
Body Shop -
------------------------------------------------
Sorry rice boys! this isnt a place you can purchase your ugly Blitz kit for your eclipse!

The body shop will teach you about aero dynamics. Also allowing you to purchase Front and rear diffusers and teaching you how to adjust properly. With different style wings for all types of cars and adjustable in not only air current, but display height as well.

BUT WHAT ABOUT BODY KITS?!!!!!! well children! The only body body kits i would include are ones that actually increase the overall width of the car. or just flaired fenders. That way, it would be possible to open up possible wheel size options. Example! the Silvia S15 Spec R Aero has a wheel base of 2525 mm or close to 100inches...and a overall vehicle width of 1695 mm or close to 70 inches. That would limit the wheel and tire size you could purchase. The correct Wheel and Tire is important factor in getting the traction you need especially when you have tons of power to put down. moving the tires out further from the car also improves the turning radius as you change the location of where your center weight is. The object for that is getting closer to F1 vehicle specifications. Thats why having a increase in body width and trying to shorten the wheelbase by purchasing the "widebody" (not making the kit super ugly looking) with all visuals and aeros provided present might be nessesary for the races towards the end of the game.

Paint booth will be availible too! I really liked the color schemes in Forza or Need for Speed. Why cant you show off your awesome car that you built witha nice color as you drive or have photo shoots? Well you would if this was in GT5! What really frustrated me in the gt4 game was not being able to get the color of the car you want in the game. By constantly waiting in the used car showrooms for some better colors. Besides id love to see a old school VW bug in a pearlesent blue in a GT photoshoot. especially if its widebody. yum!

Menus for the body shop would include: Rear Spoiler (wing), Front Spoiler, Front Diffuser, Rear Diffuser, Sidestep diffuser, Bonnets (hoods), Widebody, paint booth.

**Note - if damage would be included in the game..this would be an important area to visit to get your **** repaired if you like to be a wall hugger.**

--------------------------------------------------------
Tire and Wheel Rack
--------------------------------------------------------
Here you will be able to purchase and veiw the wheels you have already bought.

Wheels - When purchasing wheels you may only purchase 2 at a time. First you choose front or rear wheel set up. as an example i choose Rear the rear! Then just like previous GTs, you are given a list of different types of wheel manufacturers; Rays Engineering, BBS, OZracing, yokohama, dunlop, falken, enkei, ect. Here you will be given a list with a thumbnail of the wheel. Like the GT4 menu, yet the name of the wheel will be availible. For example instead of Rays015 under the Rays Engineering wheel list. You would have TE37 under the thumbnail. Once you have selected the wheel, you will be shown a menu of wheel adjustment. Here you can adjust the wheel width from 6-14, the Wheel Diameter from 13-24, and offset from +40 to -20. Depending on the car you have selected will adjust the values you can choose from. For example, if you have an FD3S rx7 as your current car and you choose the TE37 wheel you may get values up to a 11.5' wide wheel. With the purchase of the Widebody kit if it were to be availible you may even get up to 14. Still looks like you have room to fill till you hit the rear fender? drop your offset and put some dish into it. Main purpose is to change the center of the wheel location Hurrah for short Rear wheelbase! and it just looks damn cool!

Once you have selected the front or rear wheels, it will give you an option of tires you want to choose from..unchanged selections from gt4. By tire manufacturer, yet now! you get the change the aspect ratio once you have selected the tire you want. This effects how the tires perform under load.

Once you have what you selected..it will give you a list of what you purchased! kinda like a shopping cart for online purchases. hehe

--------------------------------------------------------------------
|Rear |
| [+] (2) Rays Engineering TE37 18x11.5 +12offset | | |
| [+] (2) Yokohama Advan Racing Tires 275/40/R18 | | |
| |
| Is this what you have orderd! would you like to buy now? |
| [ yes ] [ no ] |
--------------------------------------------------------------------

This also gives a chance to have the player learn more about tires and wheels as you cant do this on every car. A Ek9 Civic Type R would not have the same results if it were to purchase this same tire and wheel set up. FWDs typically are more in favor of higher offset wheels and a smaller diameter. As goes for AWD cars.

----------------------------------------------------------
Lube and Fluid Center -
----------------------------------------------------------
A must! A MUST!! fluids in IRL effect your car greatly! This Option would be
again in the GTAuto Section Yet here once you enter..instead of 1 option and thats oil change. You have yet ANOTHER MENU! check the boxes you want done to your vehicle then select ok.

Engine
[ ] Oil Change
[ ] Upgrade Oil Pump

Cooling
[ ] Anti-freeze change
[ ] Upgrade Waterpump

Transmission
[ ] Oil change

Diff.
[ ] Oil change

- The importance of adding these options to the game is that GT series does not incorperate heat into the factor of simulation. In the game Black oil is enough to give you less HP, in reallity...black oil is enough to improperly lubricate moving parts, thus overheating your engine and blowing it all together. Although i dont want blown engines as a part of the game. Improper cooling of moving part will decrease your performance as you drive. In gameplay..your oil light will luminate and your engine temp guage will go up. You will find yourself getting slower and slower till you are unable to rev. or accelerate (TIME FOR AN OILCHANGE!). If your engine temp guage goes up but your oil warning light does not luminate. Then you will get slower till you are unable to rev or accelerate (TIME FOR A COOLANT CHANGE!) Your on the accelerator but your not going anywhere...your revs are bouncing up and down the limiter..but no movement..no gauge is going up or no lumination from the oil lamp (TIME FOR TRANNY FLUID CHANGE!). Your doing lots of drifting and find yourself going into lap 10 sideways...and then suddenly you cant turn worth crap! (TIME FOR A DIFF FLUID CHANGE!)

-------------------------------------------------------------
Garage: Lets set up your car!
-------------------------------------------------------------
In your garage, you will have your car list obviously downloaded into your hard drive (assuming ps3 will have a HDD).

Go into your car list and select the car you want to tune, assuming you already bought parts..or the car is factory adjustable.
You will see the image your spinning car like always in veiwing your garage. Heres the real change you can choose to veiw your vehicles;

Specifications
History
Modification List

It will also give you the option of;

Tune Up
Washing the Car
Dyno Tune
Corner Weighing
Selling
Test Drive Current Setting
Get In

In the Tune up, You will be given the image of the car your tuning and you can highlight the areas you would like to modify and get options you normaly would under the vehicle setting screen. Yet, here you can fine tune your car. You would be able to change the suspension setting, transmission settings, ect. Also you will be able to change the location of your intercooler and or oil cooler(s). The location of your Battery and fuel cell. Install or take off parts in an instant. Change tire air pressures.

In the Dyno Tune, like need for speed underground..where you see the car on the dyno. Depending on what you buy for tuning you can go in

the engine and change MAPS, INJECTORS, BOOST, AIR, FUEL, probably even adjusts when VTEC hits on the scale among other things that will help perform on the track.

In corner weighing you get to monitor the relations between unsprung weight and sprung weight. As a greater uprung weight will have drastic negative effects towards your cars front back and side to side motion. Great to know if your looking to beat the best online!

-----------------------------------------------------------------
A-Spec Mode: Race life! (main mode)
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Here you will go around racing like always in different parts of the world. As if you were the racer!

When you first start off the Game, it asks you to make a profile. In the profile creation screen it will ask where your from, this will determine your starting location. If you choose America, you start off in america..and you can only see races in America. Also only availible to buy cars in america: Acura, Ford, Dodge, Chevy, Shelby, Saleen, Catilac, Infinity, Lexus, ect. Starting off with what little money you have to start your racing career. As you progress, you will be contacted Via email like option in game. These will be sponsorship offers, as you must put down a few credits for cheaper parts, or extra winning cash. Get enough percentage of a country complete lets say 40% done and you will get another contact that will alow you to travel to a different part of the world. Also unlocking courses..as street(touge), circuits, cities, rallys, and more racing events. As well as cars and parts. Depending if your online, you may see current online challenges for that country.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
B-Spec Mode: So you wana be a racer?
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Here you are the race manager, train your driver by driving the fastest way possible you can and have him follow you. if you mess up, he will to..and his AI skill rating will go down. Drive the fastest, and he will try to follow your line. You may also place bets on your racer during the game, and increase your winnings by a large sum than you normaly could if you were just racing. This is a tricky mode to get good at, as you have to really monitor your driver.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------
TIME and WEATHER!: its crazy out there!
-----------------------------------------------------------------
From another thread i saw title of downloadable weather packets! Unfortunatly i didnt read it! but that gave me ideas too!

If your connect online you will be able to download weather watch. During your season depending on your game clock, you will be alerted before a race what the weather will be like. Looking at the weather forcast will help you decide what tires, tire pressures, suspension, you want to dial in to get the best results for a race. Having rain sprites, or snow sprites to lessen visibility during racing. Hot weather may screw up your race if you dont change your tire pressure. Racing in fog, only able to see a few seconds ahead of you and tail lights from other racers.

Dawn, dusk, night, or twilight hours are shown so you can see if you wana race at these certain times.

**note
I dont see this visual effect happening as i dont really have very strong confidence in current game systems to support weather and day and night changes.
**
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Music Selection: Get your groove on!
-----------------------------------------------------------------
With a HDD equiped ps3, uploading music from your CDs into your ps3 and being able to add them in game to a music playlist. Much like how xbox incorperated that technology into their games.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
Online Updates!: This is only the begining
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Like halo2 able to change the game options via downloadable updates. With the release of all the gt series tracks in GT5 as well as downloadable courses online. Ever want to race downhill on akina at night for those initial d freaks. Thats something to look forward to!

Downloadable parts! Who plays Gunbound?! Something similar, you can download parts via online to add to your collection that are not shown or seen availible under normal game menu. You want a hood for your old corvette that looks like it has a twin whipple supercharger?! im sure that would be so awesome. to sport on your photoshoot!

upgrading sound clips maybe? with ps3s nice sound support coming availible why wouldnt we like to enjoy better game sound, by downloading a realistic sound pack..of engines..or exhausts, even blow off valve sounds (fast and the furious anyone?)

Downloadable cars! "Hey!? why dont they have Falkens FD3S drift car?! that car is cool!!" SHUT UP KID! lick my chode!! it would be nice to get a few licenced cars into the game maybe closer to 200..instead of the 500+ random cars you get in gt4..Then downloading country or buying and downloading cars online. AND! we dont need like..a billion different versions of 1 car..i think 8 different nissans 350z is a pointless and waste of memory space and time and money..and whatever. if i wanted all the versions of 350z id download it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Another thing i forgot to add. ABLE TO PLAY MULTIPLAYER or 2 PLAYER with your MODIFIED CARS!!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

!!!FINAL NOTE!!!

What do you guys think?! This is what i would do, I dont believe theres a large enough market to make a game like this especially implimenting it into the GT series..but it was nice to dream what a hardcore tuner enthuests game would sorta like to see in GT. Im not expecting very much in the next installment of GT5, except better graphics and hopfully better physics.
:dunce:

That's a pertty in depth post there 👍 I've not read it all yet, but I figured I could take a break and say well done, it soud's great. I don't think 2 disks is needed, or logical since you can have two modes of play on one disk, it's just a case of altering the interface and combining tune up parts so the suspension upgrade is all one package ect. It should all work well on a Blue-Ray. Everything else I've read so far sounds quite appealing, infact, very appealing. Unfortunately though, like you I don't think it would catch onto the mainstream gamer.

EDIT: I've finished reading that, and my oriignal opinin stands, very good idea. I managed to understand most of that, I'm not as knowledgable in mechanics as I'd like to be, but I'm getting there.

I ain't reading all that, but most what I read was very interesting and would be a nice feature in GT5.

I'm not sure if you said this already, but here it goes anyway... A garage icon in the race options, much like qualify, tune, B-spec, A-spec, so we can enter a new car without having to go out of the race window, then head off to the garage, get in a new car, then back out to the race event we were just in, and load it all up all over again. It should save time if you want to run the same race over and over again, but with different cars.

umm no way just 200 cars.. we want as many as we can get.. i want 2000!!! but the tuning sounded sweet and i hope they add soem of those ideas you have

Nice ideas there, I glanced through and got the most of it. Have to disagree with one thing though...taking it down to 200 cars would be a disaster, it's the one thing I know many people hated about #3, it's severe lack of cars even compared to #2. If they'd ditch some of the stupid cars (Patent Motor Wagon, 2CV, the old Herbie Beetle...that kinda thing) and replaced them sticking to 700ish, that would be good. As I say though, other then that I wouldn't complain if we got anywhere near half of what you suggested.

Good lord! That thing is an essay! But it looks like you spent some serious time with it, culling lots of ideas from our threads and spicing it up with a lot of your own, so I'll be sure and give it a read sometime this weekend. It looks like I'll be giving it a 👍 along with l4s.

Oh, and what they said. Make it about 1000 vehicles this time, of all kinds and eras.

making GT that involved would turn it into a time consuming bore

already too much time is wasted buying cars & then getting them fully modded

what it needs is to become more streamlined outside of the track , & more indepth in detail when racing

I agree with just about everything you've said, and they'll have 50 gigs of space on a disc so they night not even need two discs to fit all this stuff.
A quick question: What does IRL stand for? You used it about 5 times, but I just skipped over because I didn't know what it meant.
A few corrections, also. At first I thought you had this wheelbase thing figured out:
the Silvia S15 Spec R Aero has a wheel base of 2525 mm or close to 100inches...and a overall vehicle width of 1695 mm or close to 70 inches.
Then it seemed as though you had it mixed up:
moving the tires out further from the car also improves the turning radius as you change the location of where your center weight is. The object for that is getting closer to F1 vehicle specifications. Thats why having a increase in body width and trying to shorten the wheelbase by purchasing the "widebody" (not making the kit super ugly looking) with all visuals and aeros provided present might be nessesary for the races towards the end of the game.
First of all, wheelbase is the length (front to rear and vice versa) between the centers of the wheels. The center of the axles will be this same distance, so you could define it as that, too. Track is the length (side to side) between the midde or center line (length wise) of the wheels. So, for example, the length btween the left and right wheel, measured from the halfway point of the width of the wheels, is the track. Every now and then these measurements are different for the front and rear track, usually on cars that have wider rear tires than front.
The wheelbase is the length between the center point of the front and rear wheels. This has to be the same on the left and right side of the car or it'll have a bad pull that you'll have to constantly correct for. This actually occasionally happens to cars with live or beam axles at one end, or both, when a big load is put on them. Trucks with snowplows get it bad.
Anyway, as stated in your quoted section, you can't shorten the wheelbase unless you cut out a section of the chassis itself or move the suspension mounting points. You can change the track, which I think is what you meant, by putting a smaller or larger backspace on your wheels, putting on wider wheels, stuff like that. This will compremise the integrity of the suspension parts like A-arms, struts, bushings, and the mounting points by putting more stress on them. Usually it's not a big deal in wider rim situations.
If you stretched out the track, the center of weight would not change. It would not effect the turning radius either, that's just the smallest circle your car can turn in. It would effect the overall grip and handling, usually increasing it because the weight is distributed better troughout the suspension and tires. You shouldn't call it a "widebody kit", kiddies will start to think of flamboyant, crappy, jellybean, ugly kits. I understand and agree with your view (lots of racecars have wider tracks than their street counterparts and they are aerodynamically functional), but they don't understand. But, the racecars' chassis were specifically designed for the different measurements, the street chassis was not. The necessary extended suspension arms/mounts would negatively effect the strength of the whole suspension system, possibly resulting in worse performance. They are heavy, too.
The things mentioned in this section, again, won't necessaily improve your performance. Most of those cars in tuner magazines are nowhere near their handling potential beacuse of the super wide, and, incidentaly, heavier rims and widebody kits. If they had the stock body they'd be lighter, though their tires and rims would have to be skinnier. I'd have to see a comparison between less wieght/less tire and more wieght/more tire. I' not sure which would od better. Anyway, I think this could add some modifications that would actually make your car worse, as oposed to GT4, where you can only make it better.
Some last notes: remember that larger brakes, calipers, wider and taller wheels, wider and taller tires, longer suspension pieces, stronger suspension pieces, will all negatively effect the unsprung wieght, which you said the game should emphasize. I think the game should acknowledge this, too, as it is very important to handling, acceleration, and braking performance. You sound like you know your stuff, more than me, but I'm just pointing out some mistakes and giving you things to think over a little more to make sure they're correct. It's pretty good so far, for the most part.

I strongly think there needs to be a severe focus on education aswell, so someone who doesn't anything about tuning but wants to, can learn. Yeah, they said they'd do it with Prologue, developers say alot of things...So what, Snake can eat in MGS3 now, that didn't impact the game enough in the least bit... There should even be an extra set of liscense tests which make you do the optimal setup in order to get gold on top of driving well. Or maybe even the computer drives perfectly with whatever settings you give it...There should be more in depth feedback too so you know how the car responds to the track with whatever setup. They should atleast explain very intricately how changing one to the car affects every other thing...

I'm all for Gran Turismo developing into something as detailed as a racing sim. If I remember right, In GTR you can even decide what kind of pressure cap to put on the radiator! However, too many of these games basically give you the essence of a full fledged race car, but none of the support.

See, real racing is a very technical, precise sport in which millimeters, ounces and pounds of pressure are crucial. The race teams are as much physicists as mechanics. The drivers know some of this stuff, about tire pressure, balance, suspension response and the like, but they're counting on the race team to handle his requests for tuning the car with the precision of a watch. Many games of this complexity give you a basic tuning guide, or even no clues at all to leave you on your own to figure out the physics of your car.

Not having a crew chief on a racing sim which sets up a car to the basic specifications of each race is a huge groaner for me. Surely if a rally game has you going across stretches of asphalt mixed with gravel, the game should set it up approriately for you. Likewise, on a Touring road course, the car should be set up with a car and transmission tuned more or less to the course to get you into the ball park. If you like a "looser" car or tight suspension, a different toe in, the crew chief (game) should remember this and not give you a general purpose default configuration with every race, or the settings for the previous race.

Hopefully Gran Turismo 5 will give us a lot of this capacity. Being able to control tire pressure, individual suspension amounts, front/rear weight distribution, turbo tuning and the like would be really awesome. BUT, take the real life aspect of racing into account and not dump us into a garage with no support at all, and leave us scrambling for message boards to learn how to tune a car.

I'd prefer to do the tuning myself, having it all done for you is taking away a huge part of the game. You get an explanation of what changing each settings will do to the car, that's good enough for me. I'm not even that good at setting up my cars really, but I would want to have all the settings done for me.

All they need to do is include an option that automatically sets you up for a race depending on the track, car spec, temperature, weather conditions,...
Let's face it, while all these in depth tuning options are interesting, if it requires you to handle it yourself, it's going to turn thousands of gamers. I myself am in no way a car specialist, but I'd be willing to learn if the game presents a decent guide. Still, if I'd have to spend a lot of time for each 2 lap race looking for the right setup (and yes it would take long, cause as I said, I've no knowledge about car mechanics), I wouldn't be very happy. I'd spend more time in the settings menu than on the track, and that wouldn't make the game any more fun.

So, provide an automatic option, which you could switch on or turn off as you like, and it's perfect.

Honestly, I'd really like to see the downloadable cars & tracks idea. I recently came over to the PS2 from PC gaming, and that is something the PC market does all the time. With many PC games, there are not only expansion packs that you can buy, but weekly map and object downloads.

I'd love it if PD released some kind of editor even, so people could make thier own, but I doubt that will happen. Too many copyright issues, plus the problem of people making really unrealistic cars (900 HP Beetle, anyone?), would probably keep add-on production in PD's hands.

All the same, even if I had to pay 20 bucks or something, I'd love to be able to add a "Muscle Car Expansion" or "Legends of LeMans" pack. Honestly, that would be a really good way for PD to keep the game making money after the initial release. I'm a programmer myself, and I figure the cars are really nothing more than a set of variables, a model and a skin. The cars are the easy part (aside from the 3d modelling), the actual game code is the hard part. Making expansion packs would be so easy.

They could also have upgrades for existing cars. For example, in the game Counterstrike for the PC, some guns were originally unrealistically powerful, and in an update pack, this was corrected. I mention this, because I think in GT4 many American cars suffered because their published horsepower numbers were underrated. The 426 Hemi, for example, was rated at 425 hp, but most experts agree that it was probably closer to 500. Also, I know from my personal real life experience that the SRT-4 is geared wrong. I would love it if PD could send out patches for that kind of thing.

I was also thinking the other day about uploading your own music. Even though I've removed all the annoying songs from my playlist (If I ever hear "D-Greasy Rides" again, I will punch myself in the face repeatedly!), after playing the game for several months, I'm getting tired of ALL the songs.

^that option is included in Total Immersion Racing, where you can choose from having a mechanic set up you car, or do it yourself. Or both, for that matter. have the mech do a guesstimate and then correct it yourself, to better suit your drivingstyle.

@ Wingsofwar; Very nice ideas, I must add!

Bumping a 4 year old Thread, its been several years since iv came by here.

I just remembered that i made a thread today in GTP during the year PS3 was just launched.

After reading a bunch of GT news lately and watching Youtube Videos. I started reviewing everything i wanted in the next installment of GT, 4 years ago. To see if there are things that have changed about me, as a gamer, a little bit older, and with a bit more experience.

Honestly Id really only want 20% of the ideas i brought up then. Its a strange feeling looking back before Prologue 5 hit shelves and Comparing them to today, especially with the bar of expectations rising higher and higher every year due to competition and technology.

Honestly even if i didn't get everything i wanted in this upcoming GT5. I couldn't be happier with what they are providing as a game in whole. Well done PD.

What about like uh...cosmetic upgrades like new paint? If custom paint jobs were available, I'd (for example) buy two DeLoreans; I'd keep one unpainted and I'd paint the other one black like some people have done. Has anyone ever seen one of those yellow DMC-12s? Those look so badass! :D:P

Interesting topic.

The main thing I would like improved is the online penalty system. I've been playing prologue today and it is so frustrating!
Someone will steam in to the back of me, I get the penalty. Someone will steam into the side of me, I get the penalty. Someone can totally cut a corner no penalty.
I just cut a corner by a whisker I get a penalty.

I would like to see instead of the 5 second slow your car down penalties, maybe add 10 seconds to your finish time per each indiscretion. And the system for identifying penalties needs to be improved, hopefully no more penalising the innocent driver.

Can't wait until release though, really looking forward to this game!

I think an essay deserves it's own thread.

Either way, nice ideas. 👍
Just i don't think i'll ever be able to make a post that long! :dopey:

The ability to choose opponent cars (with general stats, Drivetrain\Power\Years\Series(supergt nascar wrc etc) ) in arcade or Practice mode.

The ability to Pit during Qualifications(to change tires max 4 times or wtv) furthermore the return of Official Qualification instead of a "judged practice session".

CATERHAM Seven Fireblade events. Such an amazing little machine gone to waste in GT4.

A-Spec point drag races, an exercise in using maximum grip and precise shifting.

Historic race series, 90's only DTM, 90's only JGTC, Group B rallying, 70s NASCAR etc.

Having events for both stock and tuned cars, for example seperate Muscle Car Competition for strictly stock and striclty Tuned cars.

Tire Punctures, so not only do you have to keep your tires off Red, but keep from taking risks that could produce punctures and flats.

Suzuki Liana, Chevrolet Lacetti, and Kia Cee'd. Seriously.

Meaninful pole positions online and offline.

Tuning the stlye of GT2

Everything XEPEGTP stated.

I've been coming to GTPlanet for a couple of years but had missed this thread. Before reading it, the only thing I will really miss from GT5 is the Mt Panorama track in Bathurst... but this thread has given me a lot of food for thought!

How about the damage physics

like the Formula 1

if you crash badly on a tire or wing on front or back then it should be taken off and you can go to the pit stop to replace it but obviously for a longer stop.
And the damage on Formula 1 car should decrease the aerodynamic setup or again if the front wing is taken off then the whole front aerodynamic is automatically set to 0 or if the back wing comes off then the back aerodynamic is set to 0

Because look http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ba5SCNrVjxw
couldn't find any video with better quality on when Vettel hit Button on Belgium GP then Vettel went straight for pits to replace his front wing but button was hit to hard on where the radiator was so he was out

And look schumacher on 3 wheels after crashing on coulthard
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TeAuQ2Xem4Q
I saw a lot more videos in youtube on F1 cars still racing with 3 wheels after crashing hard.

Also are there any weather physics for GT5 like raining or just the roads wet or oily??

Ive seen the cars in GT5 get damaged but only the bumpers and the outside gets damaged and it doesn't even come off on a hard crash or hit...
