...........produced all their engines as Wankel-types, all rotors, no straight-line, no V-type, no boxers, or even a W-type. Imagine, a Protege that has a one rotor, 110cc rotary that produces 190hp non-turbocharged engine as a standard engine.

What do you think?

Oh Boy!!!!

:mazda: used that engine most likely for economy purposes. Good power, low tax, and a decent Mpg is appealing to money concious car buyers :D

While it would be cool, it won't happen. Rotary engines just aren't good for all kinds of cars.

And, all of Mazda's rotary engines are Wankels...

Old rotaries get loose and burn oil like there's no tomorrow, so they aren't great candidates for consumer cars.

But they make the power, though, and having no real redline makes them great for sports cars!

When are they ever going to come out with the triple rotor engine??
Wasnt Mazda supposed to do this to the Rx7 or 8??
Just curious.
Oh, I voted yes, but no all cars.

Rotaries have redlines! Try overreving an RX-7 and see what you get...

If you over rev them, a lot of heat builds up, and the Apex seals can fail and really ruin the engine.

I would totally suggest DON'T OVER REV ROTARYS!

And Misnblu, there was no plans for the RX-8 to have the 3 rotor engine. However, through rumors, the next RX-7 might have a 3 rotor engine...

Well, OK, they have redlines. But it's much easier to build, say, a 12,000 rpm rotary than it would be to build a 4 cyl that would turn that high.

there you go Neon...that's why RX-7's have a loud over rev alarm, it's telling you "NO MAS! NO MAS!" lol

Most Likely, a bearing would fail before an apex seal would give way, Mazkid.
Rotaries love to rev, but not too far, an old Mazda mechanic friend of mine told me back in the day the old Rx-3's and 2's would come in with the gear teeth stripped out of the rotors and cast iron housings, he said that was from when people would over rev.
Mazda Already had a triple rotor engine from the Cosmo, but Mazda Has been toying around with the idea for a 3-rotor in for the supposed Rx-7, but they want to make sure they get the bugs worked out of the new Renesis first.

MazKid has competition here! ;)

I don't think Mazda should make all rotaries. Neat idea, but unprofitable... And, you've got to admit, car companies may make "soul-searching" or "exhilirating" cars, but their primary purpose as a company is to make a profit, and that'll be hard if they were to put all of their eggs in one basket by just making cars with Wankers, erm, Wankels. :D

It'd be nice, but no one would pay!

My parents - I swear this is true - still refuse to even consider a diesel vehicle because they associate the diesels of today with the old Mercedes diesels that smelled and burned fuel like no tomorrow!

I think they'd collapse if they had to consider a rotary vehicle!
