Late reply but you can try a demo of nascar heat 3. I find it really fun on big ovals in a race in traffic.
I played it in hood view with a controller and with my g29, it's pretty good for a cheaper game. The sound is ok once you are rolling in high constant speed.
The ai is pretty good too, avoiding you and racing each other and keeping a steady speed, not making it too easy to pass.
Also the spotter voice is really good, giving you proper info if someone's near on the inside, outside etc, and sounds really natural, maybe more than in 4 from videos i saw.
Good mix of ovals, not boring at all in traffic and as fun as any other.
Now nh4 is said to be quite a bit better for sound, physics and graphics, plus you can start your career in the series of your choice, or at least you don't have to start at the bottom, with the short dirt ovals.
The next game is unclear, seems the devs are not there anymore and the publisher i think is continuing the series in house, not sure.
But they said they are just building on NH4 and using the same engine still, Unity.
Only for the game after that will they switch engine for nextgen.
I find the demo fine, nice tracks but it is lower budget game.
Im waiting for NH4 to be on discount, which i never saw still. But it's 40cad now at regular price.
Or ill wait for news on Nh5.
Edit: just did a race again in the demo at Daytona and i don't have much bad to say really. Im not a expert on nascar but the racing is excellent for me.
Just enough challenge in the handling with a little looseness in the centre of steering, and some heavyness of inertia in the swerving.
Good fun challenge in a race to avoid traffic, the walls and pass the ai. Some yellow flags from time to time, sometimes only one car loses control somewhat in front and lots of smoke. Making you tense to try avoid crashing cars and not lose too much speed.
Easy ui to choose changes when you go pit, enough basic info on the race and your car status etc.
All works well to me, im even thinking to get nh3, and it's just 26.99cad too.
I just need check out nh4 more maybe on youtube to decide.
The demo is the full game i think, just a number of races limit, but its pretty generous, you can do full races of a few hours with qualify too.
Also the replay has options for highlights of the race, short, medium, long, or full race.
Edit2: just did a long race at Indianapolis, really like that one too. High speeds on less banked curves making the steering lighter.
The grandstands full of spectators are impressive on that track and you can hear the crowd noise, gives a little atmosphere.
Must be an impressive sight there in real when the stands are full.
Fun when there's a yellow flag to decide if it's worth pitting in. I like it alot, even with a 100 or 200 laps, it goes fast trying maneuver the traffic and maximize your lap lines and speed, and tires and fuel, constantly adjusting slightly your steering.
The exit on the last turn in Indy can be a little tricky, when you try keep your speed up and reach near the wall at the exit of that last turn. Lots of fun.
