Hello everyone I am debating about changing my Internet plan but need to know if it is the smart choice. Right now I get slow 5mbps download speed with unlimited downloading. This new plan would be 25mbps with a 375GB a month cap. I can go over it so it's not really a cap but it will cost me extra. I use things like YouTube, PS3, Skype video, streaming movies everyday, etc. and am not sure if I will go over this limit ever. It's 5x faster which will be awesome but I reeeeally don't wanna end up paying more in over usage fees.

If any of you know the amount of GB you use a month or averages just any info would help me out. Also should be noted there is 4 people who will be using this Internet but really only myself as a heavy user and than one other medium user.

You should be able to check how much you're using at any time on your service provider's website.

Also, are you currently with Teksavvy by any chance? I might switch to them if my negotiated plan with Bell doesn't withhold its ground next year during contract renewal.

I watch a crapload of YouTube videos, and on average I get around 13 MbPS as long as nobody else is hogging it, and it isn't unbearably laggy. BUT, around here you pay for a minimum download speed, (which for me is 7 MbPS) not a maximum monthly download amount, I believe.

I am on Bell right now. The new plan seems pretty good and is cheaper than what I pay now (about $60/month), but my current plan is unlimited download which is impossible to get anymore.

I pay for 5Mbps and get about 4 according to speed test which is close enough and it is quick enough for me. However it is slow as hell to download larger files. Sometimes it's just slow in general for normal webpages too.

My previous plan with Bell was the Fibe 6, but we downgraded to Fibe 5 since they no long had the 6. Now we get slower download speeds, but we got 15 more gbs of data than last year now. $60/month is hella expensive imo. Teksavvy is pretty cheap all around... I just looked it up; High Speed DSL 6, 6mbps download, and unlimited data for $46/month.

I really don't know much about current bandwidth or data caps etc since this internet plan is like 10yrs old and they told me never change it since unlimited download will never be offered again. What are your download speeds per month and allowed GB to download?

Edit: I looked at the company you said plans and the DSL 6 is basically what I have now only unlimited downloading and 10x the price lol. This new plan would be close to the DSL 25 plan only I would get 375GB a month which is 75GB more and roughly the same price. This TekSavvy isn't available in my area tho.

375GB is a lot of data. We have 5 relatively heavy internet users in our house, and we've come close to Comcast's 250GB limit before, but never actually crossed it. I think that will be plenty.

Well in the UK I'm on unlimited fiber internet from BT just started it but my old usage with BT was about 55GB. But as long as people in your house are just streaming video, browsing the web or playing games 350GB should be fine. Only downloading huge files all the time will put you close to that limit

Ask yourself what is the most important thing and you will find your answer;

* Faster download speed or unlimited download.

* Are you willing to pay more for a faster download speed and maybe when/if you exceed the 375GB download limit.

I have 7 Mbps download, I always download from P2P, stream movies, play games online, maximum usage I ever have in a month was close to 20 GB per day or close to 0.7 terabyte per month. My internet never stops downloading stuff, laptop and PC are on 24 hours, 7 days a week, so it really depends on the usage.

Hmm faster speeds it what I want more. I was talking to my friend about this and he said yes right now it's unlimited but it's so slow at 5Mbps that you can't really download that much in a month anyway. It takes like a week to get a blueray movie as is so it would be impossible to download a huge amount to need unlimited with this speed. It's also very expensive compared to current plans, only difference is this unlimited. Only problem I see is although the person said I could get this yesterday and it's a promo that's ending soon that person may of just been an idiot since it doesn't appear on their website anymore and says it ended September 28. Hopefully I don't have to call and really fight hard to get this now. Also I checked and said I used 70GB in 3 months, not even close to 375GB a month lol. Wasn't heavy downloads in those months but still far from the limit.

7Mbps - I can download 2+ GB per hour at least, that is not bad. When I ran my computer to download huge files for a day, it can do close to 40 GB in a day. So in your case, if you are not heavy downloader with less than 200 GB per month, paying extra would not be good idea, unless you want HD streaming without a stutter :) With mine, I can stream HD Youtube on PS3 without a hiccup, while my laptop downloading P2P at close to 2 Mbps simultaneously.

Wow I feel lucky my fiber broadband is about 60 meg down and 16 meg up and its unlimited. All that for £26 a month. I get 300GB and then after that they don't charge extra just restrict my speed a bit at peak times.

Bell Fibe 5, so 5Mbps DL, 1Mbps UL, and a negotiated sum of 90gb per month.

Having more is nice for streaming or online gaming, but I spend more time downloading. But even with unlimited, I only have so much free space on my computer.

Holy F easily best plan I have ever seen and so cheap.

Ok I called now and they said this new plan runs till May something so it's a go. It's 25Mbps download, 10Mbps upload, and a total of 375GB a month. Last 3 months my average was only 70GB so I am highly doubting I will come close to hitting it. The thing that sucks real bad is this is a promotion for like a year. So this time next year I have to call and ask for this again hoping they say ok or take a new plan. Worst case is their standard plan which is same speed but dropped to 150GB per month. Pretty huge drop but still quicker speeds.

I just got 0.12Mbps download and 0.27Mbps upload on a Speedtest test.

Sky, get your act together and stop giving me this bulls**t connection.

It is so strange to see you guys talk about download limits. We haven't had any of that for at least 5 years now.

lol ya it's a total scam. It used to be unlimited and for some reason more people are using the internet and need more GB and they decide to limit it. Talk about counter productive. They know you will go over and they will get to screw you for more money. $1 per GB if you go over to a max of $80 over your current bill. Canada is the worst too because all this stuff is much more expensive than anywhere else in the world. You should see how bad it is when it comes to cell phone plans.

Just wanted to ask you guys with faster internet if I stream a HD movie will be be pretty much perfect stream? Right now I stay away from youtube HD because at 1080p it looks and sounds the best but I need to walk away for 10min for it to load 5min. Drives me nuts.

The maximum sound quality is the same in both HD resolutions (192kbps 44.1KHz). I just wanted to point this out, sorry for the offtopic. :guilty:

That may be true for regular video but when it comes to YouTube 50cent always post "switch to HD for better sound" notes on his videos and I can definitely vouch it is much better. I assume it's because it's the full file while lower resolution is compressed everywhere.
