What I've learned at gtplanet

1.) The Driving Force Pro is amazing.

Before coming here, I'd never heard of the DFP, or even considered getting a wheel. Once I plugged in the DFP it was such an amazing experience that I reset the game and started over with the wheel.

2.) Adjusting the "Brightness" from 3 to 0 stopped 99% of the screen shakes.

The shaking was getting pretty bad... it would usually start up if I bumped another car, then last for 4 or 5 seconds. So I started digging around here and read about the brightness adjustment. It worked- no more shakes.

3.) I can tune and drive on dirt.

Under Special Condition Events, I was having a horrible time with the dirt rallies. Even Grand Canyon (easy) was too hard. Constant corner spin-outs and time penalties from bumping the other car made the race UGLY. If I did ever get in 1st, it would be a constant struggle to stay there. Then I finally found a car that worked for me (more on that later), and found these general tips on the boards here:

* Raise ride height
* Lower spring rates
* Lower damper rates
* Ensure damper rebound is set higher than bound (helps with stability
on landing after jumps)
* Minimise camber and toe settings.
* Reduce Stabiliser settings

That's all it took. I'm no pro on dirt tracks now, but at least I can compete and have fun.

4.) The tuning guides here are the best.

I normally rely on gamefaqs for in depth game info, but the guides there weren't really helping much. Then I came here and read Scaff's giant .pdf guides... Suddenly it all made sense.

Anyway, I play on PS2 version SCPH-50001, hooked up to a standard- def 27" tube TV with component video cables. In the game it's day 779, 21.5% complete. 5167 A spec points, 0 B spec, with all licenses except for Super.

Great stuff here, hope I can contribute a thing or two 👍

Well done Penarin, a great first post, keep it up!
You've obviously done your research on the site before posting, and learned a lot, rather than posting question after question that has already been posted and answered several times over! 👍
I think this is the first time I've ever given a new member's first post reputation points! :)

Exactly, both thumbs up for that! 👍

Wow, thats really great posting there, also I didn't know what to do on dirt, so THANKS MUCH!!

Welcome aboard, Penarin! Nice to have literate members who actively help themselves, then help others as well.

Great first post! It's nice to have a literate forum member who contributes useful things and is also capable of logical thinking.

I wasn't the only person who was very happy when they stumbled upon the GTP... probably the most informative Gran Turismo community out there.

And miles beyond the snakes at the GTX from which I came...

A very impressive first post, clear and well written. +REP 👍
Keep up this kind of standard my friend, and you'll go down a storm here at GTP.

I myself have learnt many things in my time on GTP, like suspension, brakes and transmission tuning (thanks Scaff) and techniques from some of the forums best drivers.

Welcome to GTP Penarin 👍
Others have already expressed what I wanted to say so I'll leave it at that.
May your stay here be fruitful. So relieved to see a good first post in a long time. Keep it up.

AMG.

:lol: your a new member saying this? your gonna love GTPlanet!!

Welcome to GTP Penarin, seems like you'll get on here just fine 👍.

No kidding, L4S. I'd welcome you, but it seems you've been around here a bit as it is. Perhaps a Congratulations on making a first post with more than 30 seconds of typing, not asking a question, and putting some good thoughts together.

May I ask what you are going to do with all this rep we are giving you? :sly:

Nice post, very, very well written. I think we may have a very valuable member on our hands here, one who asks, recieves, and contributes smartly. Very nice.

Also, if I may ask, can we also post what we have learned at GTPlanet also? It would be nice to get to see what people have learned, and maybe answer a few nagging questions from some other new members (I had no idea how to fix screen shaking, it was driving me nuts :mad: but since you pointed out that little tip, my plasma screen has never looked better ;))

+REP :)👍

Man i feel the same way about GTP, its such an awesome enviorment...only i wish that i had enough money to buy the DFP :(

Now that's a warm welcome- thanks all. I've been lurking around here for about three weeks and figured it was time to jump in.

I just remembered another thing that you guys helped me with... the Supercar Festival. I could not find the right car for that race. Several people here mentioned the BMW M5, so I bought one. It was strange to see a four door "sedan" tearing up the track with all the exotic competion, but I finally won the event in that car.

:bowdown:M5:bowdown:

Congratulations. Many other people (including myself) have used the Pagani Zonda 7.3. I learnt the best way to drive powerful FR/MR cars here on GTP, and I plan to keep learning.

Welcome, Penarin! :)

I think everyone has said what's needed to be said. It's not often we get a new member like this. ;)

I'm glad you find many things useful on here. Looks like you'll get along fine.

Well, the M5 is a much more predictable machine than the Zondas, Saleen, etc. They understeer and brake somewhat badly. They may run away some on the straights, but not too badly.

Penarin, I approved your post just after reading the first line. Man me and you fit in the same shoes. GTPLANET helped me cure the oversteer in my NSX LM RACE CAR, and gave me valuable hints for my McLaren F1 GTR that made it evolve into a serious endurance freak.

Anyways Penarin, awesome posts and it will be a joy to see what more you have to say.

:cheers: 👍

What have I learned about GT4 at GT planet? Honestly I try and learn as little as possible, I hate spoilers / I like surprises (at least in videogames). But here's a few things I learned here. ''

The "red circle glitch" otherwise known as a disc read error, can only be cured if you're willing to take apart your Playstation, or if you buy a new disc. For me, opening my disc cover and cleaning the lens does nothing. My old disc as it turns out has some fine scratches in it. :( Since GT4 is a dual-layer DVD you really gotta take care of it.

"A-spec points are pretty much for bragging rights" I had no idea what A spec points actually DO till I broke down and read some info here. I'm still a bit confused.

That's about it. I don't understand the whole B-spec driver thing, either...but I'll learn with time. I gather that it's some sort of way to drive your car without really driving it? Hmmm

B-spec mode is basically like being the Pit Crew Chief in racing. You can jump into the car at pitstops though, kinda like in Talledega Nights, except he wasn't the chief.

  • How do complete mission 13 and 34 which I have now done :)

I can't think of anything else right now, but I'll eidt this post if I think of some more things :)

That there are more people playing Gran Turismo than I thought.

Drifting techniques (granted, I still need alot of work, but I'm getting better)

The history of Le Mans (not kidding)

People from different countries aren't all that different, we can help each other out.

Definition of countless things, information on all kinds of cars, events, so much.

A-Spec is much more accepted than B-Spec.

What A-spec points aren't.

What a K-car is.

PSP's are better than I thought.

and many, many more.

Like George, I think I'll edit this as my memories pop up.

Wow, that's WICKED AWESOME. So you can switch from driver to pit crew. Sorry, I guess everyone here this is old news..I'm all fascinated and stuff.

In general, GT Planet rocks cuz people still visit older forums, and I still play GT2 and 3 alot.

Hmm,Most old forums that I see are abandoned.

At other websites, true. Here at GT Planet, the older forums are slow, but they're not dead. Except for on Sundays :)
