What Racing Games Are Better than GT5?

This is mostly a question for those who are "disappointed" with GT5. What racing games are better than GT5?

I can think of none on any platform. I have a 360, a PS3 and a gaming PC. At the moment GT5 is the best overall racing game there is IMO.

I had an iRacing membership but iRacing is way too serious. It has no single player at all, it's very expensive and has very few cars that interest me.

I own FM3. FM3 lacks the variety you have in GT5. There is no weather, day/night, no rally no F1. There is sticky grass on the Nurb and there is a hidden steering assist you cannot remove. Doesn't support my wheel.

I own LFS but I can't deal with the fake cars and horrible graphics.

Dirt 2 is awesome but the car handling is somewhat arcade and there is not much racing variety there.

I'm expecting/hoping Dirt 3 and Shift 2 and FM4 will best GT5 when they are released but that remains to be seen.

Name a better racing game on a console.

I've been enjoying TDU 2 at the moment, it's more fun than GT5, but it's not as welcoming, I always return to GT5.

F1 2010 - ignore the reviews and idiotic people that say it's arcade trash. If you want actual RACING there is no current substitute.

To an extend it does have a slight arcade element but it is a good racer and lets be very honest here, there are plenty of games that outclass GT5.

I doubt many people have played it but SBK X is a fantastic racing game and probably the most challenging game to start with.
There is a massive sense of achievement when you play with no aids against the top AI (or online)...

As a racing game I prefer it to GT5. But as an experience, GT5 is much much much better overall. Websites as detailed and in depth as this really push GT to a new level in gaming as far as I am concerned...👍

Shift 2 Unleashed will be out in March (towards the end). It promises FAR better physics and wheel FFB than Shift 1.

Were it not for those two features, Shift 1 would ALREADY be a MUCH better 'game' than GT5. It is WAY more immersive, it is WAY more fun, there's NO grind whatsoever, it has a better selection of real world tracks (and Shift2's puts GT5 to shame), it has a better balance of cars you WANT to drive (only two Skylines!), it's online includes Spec races (everyone in identical cars), its sounds are far more exciting than GT5, it has a REAL 'hood cam' (no disembodied tach and speedo 'invisible car' view), ALL cars have an interior view, its AI are fast and aggressive...

And all of that will be better in Shift 2.

Mine is pre-ordered, and unless Kaz gets out two patches that fix the #1 & 2 major gripes here (the grind and the AI), or Shift 2 turns out FAR worse than Shift 1, I'm outta here!

GT5 has physics and the 'Ring. But is a lousy game in most every other detail. GT4 players had six years to crow, and go that the NEXT GT game would blow every other console racer out of the water. I imagine the next six years will be FAR quieter!

PD know graphics, and they know physics, but they have forgotten how to make a GAME.

I'll have to say all previous GTs are better than GT5 because at least they're fun. Heck, I'll even say I like Burnout 3 and Paradise better because they succeed in that one element, despite their fake cars and arcade gameplay.

There are only three things I admire about GT5: the physics, details of premium cars, and the detail of the tracks. But that's it. I can only enjoy hot lapping in my favorite cars for so long. It just isn't enjoyable for me due to the poor game design. The only reason I'll turn GT5 on is if I feel like competing in WRS for that week. But until an update makes GT5 better, that's all I'm playing it for.

Looking forward to what Shift 2 and Forza 4 bring later down the road. Hopefully, GT5 can still be worth playing once they come. And one thing's for sure: I'm going to be a lot more cautious before I get GT6.

So you want to compare one game using a controller to another using a wheel?
No offense but the logic ends right there.

With ABS set to 1 GT5 and FM3 are not that much different from each other, honestly. And while you're are right there are things GT5 does that FM3 doesn't the one thing that FM3 does do that GT5 doesn't is be a racing game. FM3 lends itself to racing, GT5 does not. It lends itself to time trialing more than anything else.

F1 2010 is a very good game and can compare right up there with GT5. I'll tell you my dullest race in F1 2010 was probably more exciting than the best race I've had in GT5. Only downside with F1 is obviously only F1 cars. But , especially for their first effort at it , I think they did a great job.

See right now, all these games are pretty much on an even plane. With one doing one thing better than the other but they are pretty much all even. An individual can find that one edge that's important to them and that will put a particular game over the top for them. Problems is GT5's reputation does not allow for it to be "pretty much even" and especially with a game that came out over a year before it and the first iteration of another. It's not that GT5 is a bad game. If it had came out and was "T.O.'s World of Cars" and not related to GT5 at all then it would be a good game with faults but this is Gran Turismo, and it's reputation will always have people demanding more.

It's touted, especially by the fanboys, to be the "be all - end all" of anything with a tire, track and motor. Now that it's come out and it's not it's disappointing to people. It's still a really good game. There are days I don't particularly feel like racing anyone, just taking a vehicle and whipping around a track. Or maybe just me and one other guy racing around. GT5 is perfect for that. But I really didn't go to the store looking for a game that "hey when I don't feel like racing I can just whip a car around". This is just MY take on it. When one has different priorities in their car games then their view will be different than mine.

All this to really say to ask the question "What Racing Games Are Better than GT5?" is really the "wrong question". Beauty is in the eye of the beholder in this case because of how so many of these games are so close to each other.

there is gonna be a few arguements here. but imagine if kaz read the forums and made the changes everyone was moaning about

I PRAY EVERY DAY that he does. I just feel like right now he doesn't even have to innovate anything crazy wild just copy what the comp has right now and that alone will catapult the game another level.

There may be a few other racing games that maybe better than GT5 but they have huge drawbacks. When comparing GT5 to other games, others games maybe better in physics but lacks variety, vice versa. I would have to say GT5 is as balanced as it gets right now and you won't find a better bang for your buck.

Dirt 3 looks like a promising rally. Had Dirt 2 and loved every minute spent on that game. Can't really say i hate NFS but it does it's "arcadiness" well. Forza 4 "maybe" your only hope but i don't have and never plan on having a Xbox so i don't really care.

TDU 2 > GT5 for me ATM. Opinions may differ though, but I liek the story element and the way TDU 2 has managed to incorporate the joy of driving.

The only reason I don't prefer FM3 to GT5 (as a total, considering the whole game) is the fact that it has been out for a year and I've played it to death before GT5 released.
If it was as fresh as GT5, I wouldn't have switched over.

Likely, some of the games you listed in your OP. iRacing might be "too serious" for you, but I'm sure GT5 isn't serious enough for many. Forza has a lot of options that GT5 lacks. As mentioned above F1 2010 has much more comprehensive racing with qualifying, penalties etc, compared to GT5.

So really a better question would be which games are better than GT5 at "x"?

I think GT5 is a fantastic game but also rubbish in some aspects.

The only thing I like with GT5 right now is playing online if you find a serious server but that is really really hard.

But as a singleplayer game GT5 really sucks. It's like Ridge Racing with realistic psysics which is a really weird a bad combination.

No, I played FM3 with the MS Wheel that's collecting dust in my bedroom. It's MS Wheel vs DFP. They cost nearly the same amount but the DFP blows the MS Wheel out of the water.

I was looking forward to it but I read that the AI lap times in F1 2010 are fake. I also got a lot of negative feedback from iRacing fans who like GT5 physics but say F1 2010 is arcade with fake AI laptimes.

My plate is full with GT5 and TDU 2 plus looking forward to Shift 2 and Dirt 3. No time to try F1 2010.

Anyone who says that TDU 2 is in any way better than GT5 or even in the same league is insane. But TDU 2 is a much more fun game but not a better RACING game than GT5 by far.

Pretty much most other racing games have better racing. It'd be nothing more than a fanoby that says the RACING in GT5 is better than any other racing game. I'm not talking about the cars, the graphics, the tracks, but the actual racing.

True. The actual racing in gt5 is horrible. The physics, graphics are there but not much else is

Richard Burns Rally

GTR2 (fully modded)

rFactor (w/mods)

NFS Shift (PC w/mods: IMO this is the best alternative to GT)

F1 2010 (A very underrated game)

Ferrari Virtual Academy (fun but small)

That is about it. Hopefully FM4 is better than the 3rd. The 3rd game had all these great cars and features but followed them up with horrible track recreations (look at you FM Nurburgring) and more limited wheel support.

Better racing games than GT5? I guess it all depends on what you're looking for, but off the top of my head:

The Great American Cross Country Road Race
Racing Gears Advance
Burnout 3: Takedown
Gran Turismo 4
Extreme G

All those do pretty well for me, but I could probably summon up a few dozen more without too much effort.

GT5 is the best, and TDU2 is horrible, total money waste, how even it is mentioned here?
PS2 graphics,Iphone psychics, and other stupid things in that bug game,GT5 is the king IMO,looking forward to Shift 2 Unleashed, should be great fun,but the graphics are not even close to GT5 ones.

If you think GT5 is king, which racing games have you played so we know what you compare it to.
