What Racing Games Are Better than GT5?

GT5 is to me the best racing game out there but I have never had so much fun on a racing game as I did on GRID, especially when you have a pile of mates playing as well.
Also DiRT 2 was very enjoyable as well.
They where the only two games I really played until GT5 came out.

Hate me all you want but the best racing experience in a game I have have ever had is in motor storm apocalypse, pure skill and learning the fastest route make you shine!

The graphics ARE IN NO WAY better, they use a cheep filter. The graphics look better on an SD screen as well as low poly count, I actually thought grid looked better than GT5 for a good time until I replayed it, * standard quality cars with interiors that's it! * the only thing that looks better are the trees <3 the tress , so real. And to further my argument gt5 has a higher poly count than dirt 3 and runs at an average 52 FPS , not to mention its an arcade sim hybrid. .

The graphics do look better. Everything looks a lot smoother. Who cares if they use a filter? If there is one it's not a cheap one. It doesn't detract from the experience because the game graphically was well done. Everything from the cars to the environments and lighting effects look better.

And look, GT5 can have a insane amount of polygons but the game's anti aliasing is simply not there. Maybe if there was a better anti aliasing in GT5 then yeah the edge would go to GT5 but everything from the rain to snow to dirt effects are all better. Even the smoke. Sure maybe it doesn't have the insane amount of smoke GT5 puts on the cars when doing burnout but pardon me at least the cars don't start to get pixelated when there is smoke around then like in GT5. Most of the stuff here looks better than in GT5. And this is on PS3. Have you seen this monster on PC?

And one last thing. The FPS thing happens with all game. Games that are 60 FPS fluctuate between 60 to 53-52 FPS while in game. It happens to GT5 too in certain scenarios when presented. So it's an invalid argument. Oh and the sounds in this game? Amazing if you have surround sound. You can hear when in cockpit mode the different sounds like for example the clicking sounds faintly in the direction of the emergency brake when you pull it under the amazing roaring from the engines and even hear when a tire, and even which of the tires is starting to slide out in the direction where the tire is located.

And you still say that GT5 is better? I love GT5 but it's not the trees the only thing that looks better.

NFS Shift was super fun until GT5 finally came out...loved the figure 8 and customization options i.e., variety of colors and ability to paint individual body panels, as well as the ability to select tire sizes. Liked Autopolis and a number of other tracks not in GT5. GT5 better overall though.

But also some things should be better more than having features and stuff. I refer to engine sounds that came with the driving as an experience which to me is one of the most important things, then the AI for us who loves to race against AI in GT5 is a huge problem. Then flag regulations and that kind of stuff is missing.

...

The AI is amazing in these games and you can set up as you wish in a % ratio from 0% to 120% the level of the AI. (85% is more or less like playing against yourself, super competitive) This is what GT5 needs.

Aaamen, and thanks so much for providing all the helpful insight into all the games. Great post. Clearly I need to invest in more of them to get a fuller experience... starting with a gaming PC :) Meanwhile, I can deal with most of the shortcomings in GT5, but if I had to name the two aspects that I most wanted improved, it would be engine sounds and AI.

What Racing Games Are Better than GT5?

I don't understand this question :D

But if I have to say something.... Shift (1 and 2) won't excited me like GT5 did. (Arcade) games from "NFS" series has got awesome audio effects and a lot better soundtrack than GT series. I think GT5 hasn't got much songs with power like "Rock it!", "Heads Will Roll", "Shadows of our past" and some other songs which I prefer and I like them very much. Some songs in GT5 is better for chillout than racing, that's my opinion. NFS series everytime has got awesome soundtracks.

But Shift physics and driving model SUCKS if I have to compare it to the GT5, that's my opinion too.

Oh, wait.... I forgot that in GT5 you can listen to your custom OST :dopey: :D So.... Shift has got better ONLY audio effects and engine sounds (GT5 engine sounds is annoying, deal with it), but rest of this games sucks. GT5 ftw!

Some posts above I saw some sentences and words with "DiRT", "RBR" and something like that, so remember..... RACING =/= RALLY!!!

If you had read my post...

I don't read every post on this thread, but you aren't only one who said about DiRT, I'm sure of it. I like DiRT and GT5, but for me rally is other discipline than racing, not only in games. This thread is about RACING games, so I compared Shift and GT5, I don't thought about DiRT.

I like motorsports, and I don't like when people confuse rally with racing.

As far as I'm concerned in Rallying games you're racing another car to get across the finish line.

So for me that's a racing game.

Also besides GT5 other racing games have Custom Music options you make it seem like GT5 was the first one to do this.

At the time this thread was created, nothing. Of course, that's even my opinion and I'll most likely get my knee caps busted for saying so.

Grand Prix Legends -

Yeah Yeah it was released before many GT5 players were out of short trousers. (1998. cripes)

At the time it was the Daddy - it had some support from the developers... in a few patches but the actual people that bought the game put loads of personal time and effort to make the game a powerhouse of automotive excellence.

It hasn't dated well - but it is vey easy to pick holes igraphics - but I'd hate to see a Forza or a GT cope with runnig on a 266nMhz Pentium with 19 online cars at the Nurburgring
Or solitude
Or Clermont Ferrand
Or Riversside
Or Mosport

A hard game, but nothing wrong with a vertical learning curve.

This last video is great... The driver is racing the AI - almost like he is racing with the actual drivers - suspension of disbelief in action. (Does chatter for a while)

He seems to be a total master in this discipline of racing.

Oh, I think I've met badass too. He even knows better than me did I read his post  and I don't do this 1 min before THIS post.

I can agree your opinion about differences in DiRT and GT5. But this thread is about better RACING games than GT5 and people here said about for example RBR.

I know what is rallycross -_- But do YOU know what is rally and what is racing? I don't said any word about RallyX.

In racing I would say NFS Shift 2 unl.... And RaceDriverGrid. GT5 is more a free drive room with bad damage and stupid standaard cars.

in terms of console only. the only one that beats it in simulation is f1 2011. but in diversity, gt5 beats console and sim games

"better" is abit cumulative, I did spend hours and hours on FM1, FM2 and FM3 before GT5 finally arrived and I admit that some features are made better in FM series, but like someone else said, even it has flaws, huge flaws if considering about the actual handling.

For me, GT5 is just simply the best racing game for a console at the moment, or atleast more enjoyable, especially with the G27 and H-shifter.

FM series has only more interesting cars overall, but most of those cars arent exactly added for FREE but costs us some money to get, not to mention the FM4's career mode which is basically identical with the FM3 career.

Having a trackday on Nurburgring while having weather and time changes on, there is no other game that can give you that "nice" feel about being on that track for example.

And I love how GT5 lets you create an Online Lobby just for qualifying / practising any track of your wish, in other games you have to have actual race to get on to the wheels.

The customization and free-roam in Need for Speed Underground 2 are a lot of fun. I'm playing it on PC and have patched it to run at 1680x1050. It also seems to like my Driving Force GT Wheel. This game should be remade in HD for PS3 though. I have to break out my old Xbox for split screen..

@ Ryk

That last video is beyond awesome, watched it from start to finish and my oh my if PD just went full sim in order to provide that kind of experience then I guess all kind of social contact would be all but over for me :P

@ mrkevans

Lol if we talking like that shouldn't GT2 and GT4 be included those were definitely better.

GT5 is a better simulator. No other game come close.
Other game might have features that it would be nice to have like other racing tracks or the helmet view in Shift 2.
At the end of the day GT5 has all that is important to satisfy beginners and expert.
So to me it is also the most untertaining game.

That's really an awesome race/video. Had to watch it till the end. 👍

Forza 4. It just has everything GT5 lacks for me like customization, the career mode, car selection. There are bunch of other things too. Plus, I like Forza's online better. GT5's lack of matchmaking really frusturated me to the point of giving up on online all together. What happenned to the system prologue?

I also think Forza's physics are better.

Could be true, but I like gt5's night racing
