What should I look for in a TV?

Considering a new TV. At the moment I have a 5 year old Samsung LCD 32" 1080p TV. I would like it to improve my GT experience as well as my TV/movie experience and be relatively future proof.

I'm looking at 40-43" size and was looking at 4k sets for future proofing and upscaling they can do with movies/TV shows, but I read about input lag being a problem with some of these for gaming. I don't play FPS games, just racing games really, should I be concerned about this? I found a Samsung 40" 4k (UE40JU6400) which has 29ms input lag in game mode (my current TV doesn't even have a game mode). I can find it for £529 http://m.ebuyer.com/708025
(but only 1 year guarantee, I normally prefer to buy these kind of things from John Lewis/richer sounds as they have very good non hassle 5 year guarantees).

I also saw this Samsung ue40hu6900 40" for £499 apparently has a 40ms input lag, and being from Richer Sounds has a free 5 year guarantee.

How much does input lag affect racing games. Are these figures of 26/40ms too much? With gaming mode on is it going to make the picture much worse? Is there anything else in particular I should be concerned about/look for in regard to using it for racing games? Anyone any other ideas/recommendations? Not interesting in monitors as I also want it for TV function.

Go for a Sony Bravia which have virtually no input lag at all and a better picture than the Sammy's these days

Sony don't make their own panels these days, and buy from other manufacturers. There's therefore a chance of them being a bit hit and miss. Of late they have had hits. If was going to invite the devil (lcd tv) into my home, I would likely end up with a Sony. Still, some of the new 4K TVs can do 1080p at 100/120Hz, so that's a thing to look at. The other, is if a local dimming option is feasible at all. Gotta love black when it's actually black.

@OP, if you truly care about picture quality, there are a lot of options. Another would be grabbing a used Panasonic VT20 plasma and a little PCMv2 unit to get the great black levels back on it. Nothing beats a Kuro though. If you can find a used 9th gen Pioneer, it's seven year old self will wipe the floor with anything you could buy new right now.
