What tires did you learn to drift on?

Just figured Id ask what tires all of you guys learned on. Im on sims right now wich makes learning to drift on race tires wayy harder. Also how long do you think it took you to become a fairly good drifter?

well. learned how to drift on racing tires (t2+ bad idea) but i just started using sims about 2.5 weeks ago, and im fairly better at it...

took me about 3 months to get better @ GT3 drifting.

actually.. i believe if you can really drift on sims, you can drift on any other tire... you you have to do is raise power...Its not a matter of time... its a matter of learning and developing the skills which is completely dependent on what you understand... just keep practiceing it will come to you one day even if you dunno naything about physics

what i meant about drifting w/ racing tires is that u cant really link drifts that easily as using sims. and i just reviewed some of my past drifts and compared to me using sims now. Sims provide a better outcome.

any tires are driftable. i used to have my fc running on full stage 3 turbo, and all tires super-soft. and the drifts came out nicely.

so basically, i think for better lap times its better to use racing tires
and for better drift outcome i'd prefer using sims.

I briefly learned with racing slicks. I found that if I was to learn to drift I needed to use sim tires which at first I found frustrating. I was able to do drifting with in about a month and a half. I still would like to make a video but I don't have time. :( :irked:

Nick:banghead:

btw, how do you use the "even more smiles" in these posts? Thanks

i felt the same way.... i gave up on drifting for a while until i finally got the balls and try to vibe w/ the sim tires. and now i can't use any otther tire.

Well,
last night I was playing from about 9:30-1-25am:D and now I really like drifting w/the K's Silvia/240sx aero (i probablly totally butchered the name) on racing tires and am doing imo real good for never drifting on race tires before. I dono whose setup I have but its imo the best drift setup for a newbie (besides sims). I also tried drfting w/toms castrol supra but that things wayyyy to fast for me at the moment. Well Im off to find some more supra setups so I can give them a try:cool:

Could it be that you've just gotten better, and if you went back and spent some time on another tire you'd be doing just as good? I agree with bengee, if you can drift on one tire you can drift on any tire.

I learned on Softs, then tried Sims, now I'm using Sports they have a pretty good balance although not much smoke unless you really roast 'em.

ok,
I need someone to like say what you car will do if you make the toe-in higher or lower or what the result will be w/more camber or less camber. I would fiddle around w/my own settings but I dont really know what everything does so thatd be pointless. I think I rembeber hearing that increasing the toe creats more oversteer or something...Just need to know what each thing does so I can fix my own problems and set a car up on how I drive. Also the lsd initial, accel, and decel kind of have me confused cuz some people will have theres set in the 40's and others in the 15's. Someone suggested that they and someother person here make an overview on how to set you own car up which I think is a great idea.

I first did a sliding run with my 709 hp RX7 RS with super softs
I first drifted with my 424hp Supra SZ-R with Super soft fronts and normal rears...thats still my second best drifter:lol:

I belive I started with sims. Not sure why, just felt more real, I guess. But I learned with sims, but now I use T4's or T3's, Only because I like higher horsepower, and with 700HP, SIms are just too slippery..

well ive learned on T2 tires and im pretty good at it (can dirft the compelx string big turns all the way) but i can also drift on sims (depending on HP) so i dont mind either. I find that 400-500HP on t2 is the same as 250-300 on sims.

I believe if u learn on t2 it will be easer to drift on sims because in order to drift t2 you have to learn how to get the car sideways (feint, braking, swerving etc) where as on sims it doesnt (IMO) require as much skill to get the car sideways. But with sims its harder to stop from oversteeting and with T2 is hard to keep in drift.
Its just a matter of opoinon of which u prefer. I recomend training in t2s cause i found this harder to drift than sims in which case i learnt faster.

Ive been drifting for about 3 - 4 months (Intending to) but ive been able to control oversteer for ages

Let me correct you,
It takes no skill to drift a car on sims:lol: Ive been using the Ks Silvia and dont really wanna go back to sims cuz thatll make me a worse drifter imo since all you have to do is turn and the rear end slides out. Where do I get more smilies???

i lerned to drift on superhards... This is because i learned to drift in high powered cars like a r34 and r33.. Later i moved onto drifting silvia's and the 180sx but with these i used sports..

finaly i got some balls and started drifting a 1080hp supra and 900hp chaser :D with these u need racing supersofts.. trust me :P

sports rear and softs front with some weird arse settings on GameFaqs, then i found this site....and started on sims
now i just use mediums for when I get bored while racing.

I just use the normal tires with settings. I tried sims but I sucked.

Probably why I suck, but I did own my sister with a drift in a FC earlier on I think Trial and drifted the entire long turn.

I started with Racing Tires. I'd mismatch front and rear grip, and had hp numbers around 600. Bad, bad, bad.

Now I use nothing but Sim tires. All my cars I try to keep around 400 hp. Some a little more, some a little less, but that seems to be the sweet spot with sim tires for me.

No other tire can match the drift threshold of the sim tires.
