What tires do yall use?

What up yall, fng for now. I've seen settings here with every different kind of tire from sims to stickies. I might just be lazy but I keep the tires on my cars that they use to compete in an endurance race, for example, usually medium or medium-slick. In what situations do yall switch tires, and what do you switch to? Obviously no one's going to run sim tires in an enduro.
Also, in your opinion, what tires are sim tires trying to simulate - the stock Yamacheepos on a Demio, medium quality tires like those found on a stock Camaro, or simulation slicks?

Depends a lot on the competition and your driving. If you can make tyres last then go for a softer compound and get more grip. On the flipside, if you and your car are good with cold/worn tyres, get some Super Hards and forget about making pitstops. Look at the number of laps you have to compete, know the wear levels for your car and pick the softest compound you can that will also give the minimum number of stops.

The sim tires are made for drifting. They have very little grip but a smooth breakaway. I never use them.

Which tires I use depends mostly on the competition. At first I used T2s and avoided pitting, winning on pit strategy if nothing else. As I got better driving, I started using more and more underpowered cars, but still winning on pit strategy. But as I'm getting better still, I find that leads to a lonely race where you are behind until they pit,m and then you are ahead. So lately, I've been using softer tires and trying to pit at least as many times as the AI, even if I have to pit on decent tires.

For 10 lappers I'll usually run T3s or so, and not pit. For anything longer, I'll run whatever will last half the race, and pit near the midpoint.

I use the T8's because they are the longest lasting, even though they have the worst traction of a racing tire i still like them. (200 posts in the bucket :D:D:D)

T8 tyres have the BEST traction of any tyres and they are the SHORTEST lasting.

0/10. Detention.

T8s are super-softs...

Do you know anything? At all?

What do you fantasize yourself as a fighting **** or something Famine? Another to add to the 'Ass Monkey' list. It's getting pretty long. For real, it's one thing if two people have beef, but a whole other thing to post solely for the purpose of being an asshole. Save your keystrokes.

Actually, I posted solely for the purpose that lumPwin555 was completely and utterly wrong. Again. Then compunded it by being wrong. He was posting misinformation in the forums which could lead to new members, or those inexperienced in the game, to do the wrong thing. This is all he ever does - like his classic last week where he told everyone they were being dumb because GT4 came out in January.

Unless of course you think T8s ARE the longest-lasting, least-grippy tyres, and different to Super-softs?

Drop the attitude.

Well, I haven't been here long, but I think I already got a new sig.

Drop the attitude. -Famine

How ironic. I've seen no more of an attitude from anyone but you. And actually, I appreciate the attempt to be helpful, even if it's inaccurate (I understood what he was trying to say), to a person that has knowledge but refrains from sharing (on this particular thread I'm talking about) until someone makes a mistake. Damn, man, it's not as if he's leading someone to push the wrong button in a nuclear power plant control station or something. I don't think it's me that needs to chill.

I stopped reading your thread at the title. "yall"...

Some definitive answers for you then:
Anywhere where tyre wear is not an issue: T8s (Super-softs).
Arcade mode Arcade garage cars: T5s (Medium) - obligatory, unless you select "Drift" mode, when you're given T4s (Medium-Hard/Medium-Slick) instead.
Anywhere where tyre wear is an issue: Tyres appropriate for the task/car (could be anywhere from T2-T5 on the front and T2-T7 on the back).
Simulation tyres are simulating real-life road tyres. It isn't specified whether it's the world's most expensive road tyre on a Demio, or the world's cheapest tyre on a Camaro - I'd assume it simulates whatever road tyres where on the car they tested.

Now. This site isn't about controlling nuclear power stations. It's about Gran Turismo. This section is about Gran Turismo 3. While it's a given that many of us know what we're talking about, there are many that don't and can only go on what is written here. Thus there is nothing MORE dangerous here than information that is dead wrong. By 100%. All it does is take up bandwidth unnecessarily - like this discussion - lead to kids who know no better not getting to appreciate the game as much as they should and lead to people assuming this whole site is full of misinformation and lies. GTPlanet has a very good reputation for being accurate and I will not see that reputation being trampled on.

Feel free to use whatever you want in your signature. Throwing expletives and "assholes" around may ensure you won't be using it for terribly long. This is an attempt to be helpful - I do not enjoy members being banned (except Tercel_driver).

If you're representative of the average GTPlanet member, being banned might not be that bad of an occurance.
Anyone who judges content based on dialect is a total freaking idiot. That is the manifestation of the mindset that embraces racism, sexism, ageism, and many other jackassisms. So not only have you proved yourself wholly arrogant and self absorbed, you have also shown to be fairly worthless.
Your advice is unwanted. Do me and you a favor and do not click on threads started by me. Meanwhile I will welcome input from those, such as lumPwin, who are attempting to HELP me out. See, simple difference - he posted in the spirit of assistance to a fellow member. You did the opposite. OC no one's asking but you should be the one worrying about a ban.
If you would like the last word, fine, but expect a private message in reply. I will not contribute any further to a now meaningless, off-topic thread.

ADD: If you want a forum full of experts, then make registration requirements more strict. Belittling people is totally unnecessary.

And how are you going to enforce that?

So, how much help was it to get the wrong advice?

Obviously I meant the last public word.

Where does enforcement come in? I don't remember saying anything to the effect of "You better do this, or else." A statement started by "Do you and me a favor" is self evidently a request or suggestion.

Really, if you're going to go about doing this point by point crap you should read the points you're attacking before you start typing. It can be helpful. Remember this one:

(I understood what he was trying to say)

Or how about this one?

he posted in the spirit of assistance to a fellow member

The fact is, a beginner like me didn't know what T(x)'s are anyway, yet I had no problem understanding what the post was about. Anyone who had trouble understanding it obviously would not be wanted here for lack of intelligence. Famine is the one who is tarnishing GTPlanet's rep and encouraging this newb not to come back.

I feel bad about the direction that this has gone in. Thanks everyone for your input (about tires, that is). Does GTPlanet have a list or database of record laps on different tires? I'm not sure if I want to go through with different tires on all of my cars reseting my lap records, but I'd still like to see where I stand.

You've "requested" that Famine not post in your threads again, (or by "click on threads started by me" did you mean him not to even look at them?) So what happens if he ignores your request? There is nothing you can do about it so it's pointless saying it.

He says in a post where he goes about doing point by point crap

Anyway, asking about what tyres we'all use is too wide a subject. What car? What track? What race? How long?

Dunno about you, but I use them all.

I'd love to say "No, but try GT3Times or Racing-Line, both of which I happen to be a member of, but neither of which display tyres used in record attempts", but I'm a-feared for my life in case I get a harshly worded private message.

OK, boys, can we all zip up and stop this urination contest now, please?

Thanks.

I know the feeling, and it's almost as boring as having an over-powered car to slam the contest, because in both situations, you can't do any real driver-against-driver racing.

Lately I've taken a liking to staying on the lead car's tail, and switching between 1st and 2nd. Only problem is that sometimes this leads me to unintentionally bumping 'em, but I always slow down and let them pass me up in that case. (AI courtesy :D)

Of course, the best races are when the entire pack stays together... not so close that they're bumping each other (and that if you pass one or two, you end up passing them all), but with the last car no more than a few hundred meters behind the first place car to keep things interesting. Too bad PD didn't structure very many races like that.

Yes - I've raced the Deutsche Touring Car series in Amateur several times (once in a Clio Cup car!) for that very reason - the packs stay nice and tight, and there is a lot of passing, between the AI and me.

I'm currently running the Pro GTWC in a 660-hp FTO LM car, using T3s. I find I can get the 10 laps required without pitting. The first half of the race is great with the GT One and the 787B and I well matched, but the GTOne pits halfway and takes himself out of contention.

READ MY SIG NUMBNUTS

1) That .sig wasn't there when you made the original post.

2) That's no excuse. Bad information is bad, mmmkay? If you don't know the answer, don't give the answer.

Enough, now.

Hmm, well, a bit off topic I guess, but most of this thread has been anyways.
The AI better have better pit strategy in GT4 than in the current game, especially if the rumor about fuel usage is true. There is nothing more dissapointing than walking away from a good race because the idiot you're racing against pits for the second time on the last lap.

Add: That also reminded me of a nice challenge: the professional roadster cup in an S2000. The races often remain tight throughout.
