What view do you use?

I use to use 3rd person until last night, I tried the hood cam and was able to run consistantly faster then I did in 3rd. Im sure its because I can dive into turns more accurately. Although It was hard to sense oversteer at around 170. This is the first car racing game Ive used hood cam/bumper cam or 1st person with the controller. With wheels I use hood cam/bumper cam or 1st person always.

So what view do you guys use and why?

All my live i used 3rd person view but after I played GT3 and buying a steering wheel I started playing with the hood view. That was half a year I think. In GT3 I play with 1st person view. In F1 and rally games I play with cockpit view.

Hood/Roof view, as it feels more comfortable than the other camera, where you're ON the ground :odd: and the 3rd person one.

I use the hood camera as I can race cleaner because I can judge better where the AI are.

The one lowest to the ground. It's been a tradition for me to use it ever since GT3, and I find it considerably tougher to drive with the others...

Cockpit cam, only ever drive premiums so it's no issue. I did start with the bumper cam but I've found it easier to place the car with the cockpit cam, plus, I'm not faster with that cam than any other.

Erm, wrong forum. GT4 doesn't have a cockpit view, or Premiums. :sly:

Anyway, GT4 I drive in bumper cam view, as I've driven every GT since the first one. I initially started with 'copter cam (roof view) but I learned quickly from racing 2 player with other quick folks that they were miles faster in bumper cam and I switched. That said, there are still folks, such as Famine who were monstrously fast while sat on the roof.

Ah F....I use the new posts button and this popped up, forgot to check the subforum it was in...my bad!

For GT4, yes I used the bumper cam :dopey:

HEY Smallhorses WELCOME BACK!:cheers::cheers: Good to have you back! Been missing you in these forums.

Anyways, I like the hood/roof view in GT4. You can see what's going on to the left and right of the car, which makes it easier to guage what direction to take next. Truthfully, I switch between the three views in this game, but I'm using hood/roof cam like 90% of the time.

I used 3rd person in GT and GT2, probably since I grew up with arcades racers. Just made these games easier for me. I NEVER used 1st person. Starting in GT3, I had to start using 1st though. 3rd person (camera behind car) is HUGE in this game . I don't understand why to this day.

GT5: mostly hood/roof cam, but I switch to 1st person and 3rd person occasionally to see what's going on around me at times.

Bumper cam, again, because I find it is easier to place the car in a corner and I find it easier to judge braking points by what passes by and when.

For GT4
90% Hood/Roof,
9% Chase,
1% bumper (if that)

I'm similar to Parnelli in that for GT1 & GT2 I used the chase cam.
I started GT4 that way too, but somewhere along the way I switched to the Hood cam, and haven't looked at the back of the car since. (possibly due to the guided runs in the licence tests or maybe driving something tall, which was hard to see over I honestly can't remember now)
FWD's especially suit the hood/Roof view for mind, as you can get a better feel for what the front tyres are doing which is important.
The LMP cars are the exception being close to 50/50 for me, they're low so I've got a pretty much unhindered view, and it just feels more stable to drive from behind the car, so I still use the chase cam a fair bit for them. (If I was doing I time trial I'll prob use the Hood/Roof view, but if I'm in a race in GT Mode, I'm more likely to still use the chase cam.)

i use the chase cam in gt1-4. gt5 i switch 50%cockpit/50%chase unless standard. i like to look at the cars im driving i guess. bumper cam never worked for me. my wife uses bumper cam though (no fun intended lol)

A racer should use the 1st person cam,I think bumper suits most guys, feel strange to use the hood.Bumper really help guys built a pretty road sense. But I think cockpit like Gtpsp or Gt5 would the most balanced and interesting one.
About the chase view,uhh...you can use it in some so-call drifting game like NFS...

whats funny is i drift better in the cockpit

I have used the bumper camera ever since GT2. It's the "standard" choice and it's the camera I got used to years and years ago. I have thought of switching to the roof view, but it feels unnatural.

Also, the chase cam, and to a lesser extent the roof cam, feel like cheating. This is supposed to be a "real driving simulator". For this reason the chase camera is a big no no for me.
