Hey all,
My first post here, after watching these forums for a few weeks, and probably running the risk of it becoming a flame-fest, but hey, no fun without controversy!![Big Grin :D :D](/wp-content/themes/gtp16/images/smilies/biggrin.svg?v=3)
Before I continue let me say that I've been a GT enthusiast since GT2, and have been enjoying GT5 a lot since it was released. However, the GT series has also always baffled me by making so many obvious, to me, mistakes. By leaving out stuff that would be so easy to put in and would improve it dramatically. It's never stopped me from loving the game, and it hasn't now, but I do experience this more than ever in GT5.
Which brings me to the point of this thread: if you were in the driver's seat at PD, what would you have done differently?
I'll kick it off with my short list of what I would consider improvements!
1. Licenses/levels:
This I would significantly change. First, I'd lose the levels completely. Then, I'd revert back to licenses to open up races. I'd do this with a twist though.
Basically, any car can be bought at any time, and driven in practice or arcade mode. However, to be allowed to race it in A-spec races, you'd need the appropriate license. This means you wouldn't need licenses to enter a race, but it's possible to need a license to use the car you need to enter the race... (hope you're still with me
).
In addition to the types of licenses we already have, I'd add licenses for specific race-classes (DTM, Nascar, WRC, etc.)
2. A-Spec races:
Another area where I'd change quite a lot. Most importantly, I'd add way more different races. Basically, at any level (beginner, intermediate, etc.) I'd add a number of "standard" races: FF, FR, MR, 4WD, Turbo, Euro, US, Japan. Besides those, there would be more specific-rule races, like there are now, but more. Waaaay more.
I'd add more rules to most races, much like in the current seasonal events. (Power limits, weight limits, tire limits, assist limits, tune limits).
And, very important, I'd add qualifying. Even on a 3 lap race? Yes! Especially on a 3 lap race. Imo, one of the most unrealistic things in GT(5) is the fact that it's considered "normal" to overtake around 7 supposedly competitive opponents in 3 laps...
I'd also make more of the races championships (saveable ones, mind).
All this would, apart from offering simply way more races to participate in, allow for more competitive racing.
Imagine a championship over 5 races, 5 laps per race, all cars at least 1300kg, max 400 bhp, FR, sports soft, tuning "level" 2 -I'll get to that in a sec- and 3 qualifying laps allowed for each race. I'd say that would allow for some quite exciting racing.
3. Tuning:
I like tuning my cars in GT5. The system works quite well. It could be better though. First of all, I'd remove options like ABS, ASM and TC from any car that doesn't normally have it, and add the option to put it on in the tuning system.
Also, I'd make different setups saveable (like we had before... puzzling why that's gone).
And, I'd put in brake upgrades.
Actual branded tuning parts would also be very nice, and would also allow for complete tuning packages (the way tuners like Mansory sell them).
I'd also like to see some more variation in what tuning can be done on different cars, it's a bit "slap on the standard set of upgrades" now. The limitations that are there (like no turbo for some cars) seem a bit weird though.
4. Car line-up:
I'm not too upset by the standard/premium issue (more premium is better though, obviously). I'm not even too concerned about having dozens of skylines. I do think more "great" cars should be in there... older BMW M3's, more AMG's, Koeniggseg, Gumpert, more Aston Martin's just to name a few...) Some Daihatsu's could be sacrificed![Smile :) :)](/wp-content/themes/gtp16/images/smilies/smile.svg?v=3)
Anyway, I could go on for ever probably, about visual tuning and damage models and custom A-spec races and career-challenges and and and... but most likely I'm already boring you all to death, so I'll end it here... Please reply with your own vision of an improved GT5 and/or your comments on mine!
