I'm thinking of downloading dreamweaver from downloads.com yet i'm not sure if i have sufficent ram, and i don't know what it is!
can some one help?

RAM-- Random Access Memory.

I don't know exactly how it works, but RAM basically stores temporary information for quick use, instead of storing that information on your hard drive. In general, the more RAM you have, the faster your computer will perform, and most software programs have a set amount of RAM that you have to have to use that software. RAM can be bought for pretty cheaply just about anywhere.

So for example my computer has 64.0 MB of ram yet the dreamweaver download says 96 MB Ram recommended. What would that mean?

You don't have enough. It only says recommended so you could probably get away with it, but if it runs slow and crashes too often, you might have to get more ram.

That you should get at least 32 MB more RAM.
( 96 - 64 = 32 )

If you really want to be functional though, I'd say that 128 MB is the bare minimum of RAM that one would want in today's world. My iBook has 384 MB of RAM, which seems to be pretty sufficient, though certainly I'd love to max it out to 512 MB.

Not if you want to run Dreamweaver. On the PC Dreamweaver will usually ask the system for about 130MB RAM, and that's with only a couple of small files open. So you need to add on some memory for your system files also. 256 is something of a minimum.

Obviously, you can run it with less memory, but it's not recommended.

If you need the regular style of RAM, you can get 64MB for about $30-50, depends on the specials you see and rebates. It's fairly cheap due to that DDR stuff coming out, and you should really get as much as you can afford (splurge and get 128MB - 256MB).

I'm at 448MB, the computer I bought had a sinlge 256, added an older 128, and a 64 that was lying around. Quite nice for heavy-RAM apps like Photoshop and Dreamweaver at the same time!
