What's the best way to start a hotlap?

Just take the last corner very wide and slowly, then when the car is pointing in a straight line, accelerate and make sure you get no wheel spin. You should cross the start finish line at 101mph. There's not much more to it, hope that helps.

Is there such thing as tyre warm-up in the game for performance reasons. I think it is best to keep them as "cold" as possible to ensure maximum grip around the track as the indicator could just mean ideal grip, the more "warmer" it gets the closer to less grip you have and if there was tyre wear enabled, you would get more wear.

For the start, I just go to the area of the track where it is sort of the widest, put the car in 3rd gear and go full throttle, obviously turning into the corner as well. You can make it as dramatic (Might lose some speed if not done properly) or uneventful as you like.

I loaded the fastest ghost and tried your 3rd gear method for about 15 mins, all sorts of radii on the curve into the straight, but kept coming out 1.5 to 2 lengths behind the ghost at the end of the straight.

With the method linked above, I end up same or 1/4 of a length behind the fastest ghost.

Normally I'm level or maybe even slightly ahead. Rarely am I behind that I can see the fast ghost. Make sure you have some speed, like at least 29mph going into wide area of track and then going full throttle in 3rd gear.

Yes, I now used this method and consistently near to level if not level with the ghost by the end of the straight. (one hundredths off is much better than 1 car length which is 1 tenth or worse)

And cold or warm tyres doesnt matter here. They're already at the optimal grip level just like time trial in offline practice.

I don't believe the cold tires arguement. I have rarely, if at all, set my best lap times on the first lap. Usually, its 2 to 5 laps into a run, sometimes longer. In real life, warm tires have better grip and, in my opinion, its the same in the game.

I agree, later in the lap warmer tyres are a big benefit. Also, slight slides into the second turn (where you try to graze the cone on the right) are necessary for fastest times (for me!), and are much more controllable with warm tyres. So warming up the tyres a bit before the launch, as per linked method, works for me for later speed. PS: best time today was 1:34:045, position 770 (edit: ive been relegated to 830!), German standings.

PPS: in these comparisons, as I´m in Germany, I´m chasing the fastest German ghost... the 1:31:141 one!

I know what you mean, but if you play the offline time trial practice in GT5, then compare it with playing online, both with tyre wear off, you'll notice that there's a very noticeable difference in grip level when they're both cold.

I don't notice any difference at all in GT academy. Plus you'll always get that extra speed because of the extra wide line you take everytime you restart the TT compared to having to compromise laptimes and waste time itself going round the track multiple times

Very nice.. You´ll be in the academy! OK then, I gotta trust you on setup/start. What TCS/ABS/etc setting do you use and why?
Hopefully I make it but it is going to be quite tight near the end of the competition.

Anyway I use TCS on 0 to have more control over the car and only aid I use is ABS on 1 to give most effective braking. Everything else is off or on manual. If you want tips, work on racing line as that effects the balance of the car quite a lot through a lap, it is very important. Also minimise the amount of steering you need to go through a corner to minimise load on the tyres. Brake hard initially so you get the car slowed down then think about lifting off the brakes and pointing the car towards the apex for the heavy braking areas. This way traction remains high. Make sure to minimise tyres going red. If you are struggling with say throttle application then TCS on 8 might help you a bit and ABS on 10.

Also memorise braking points, the speed you need to slow down and when to start powering out. Watching the replays of the fast ghosts helps with this looking at inputs and speed. Just try and memorize and try and replicate it on track. Hope this helps.

In regards to your last paragraph, I perfer to do multiple laps per stint as it helps me get in the groove. Starting over multiple times only disrupts my flow. Each person is different I guess.
