What's the difference between a Levin and a Trueno?

I originally wanted to know, ITR was cool enough to post it.

They both have the same body and chassis (AE86) correct?

I think that's the only difference.

Of course, a bunch of drift geeks will come and blow our minds with details like the ashtray designs, or the console width...

Uh.. From watching Initial D once, what I've picked up is that the AE85 has a SOHC engine while the AE86 has a DOHC engine. (I cannot verify this in real life as I am too lazy to go search up for it :P)

The real question is, what's it matter?

They're the same, essentially, and yet Gran Turismo has both of them. Why? Hell if I know. A 323 GT could take one anyday.

There's no difference. A Levin is not an 85, its still an 86 Sprinter Trueno with different headlights. The Sprinters Pop up, the Levins are molded into the front, looking like an Evo 5.. Kinda. Thats all, really.

They both suck. Dont chime in with the balance is exellent, the 'Drift King' uses one. I dont care. They suck. You suck, dont defy me.

I heard that they are great, really cheap, light(lbs) rwd cars that you can dump big engines into...

In seriousness, the AE86 at one time had a lot of benefits. Good balance, drivetrain, etc., were the least of it. The price was the real factor that made them great. However, in recent years, thanks in large part to my namesakse, the price has skyrocketed.

Depsite how the AE86 ever did, though, my S14 kicks hachiroku ass!

Wow, your 1995 240sx can beat a 1983-1986 Toyota Corolla aka AE86 rated at 128hp... how do you do it?!?

Nah, im just playing. The difference nothing really, I think the Trueno look better with the pop up lights... Just like in Initial D it can be mistaken for a 180 or MR2... ;)

Anyway, the reason why these car are so great is because its a cheap RWD car. Not the best looking car, most people would agree. For up and coming drifters in japan the AE86 is the best and cheapest choice. That is one of the reason that Keiichi Tsuchiya aka Drift King bought it. With it he got better at drifting... he said something along the line of "the hachiroku is a car that can train the driver!" or something along that line.

So after you're whipped by the car, you can throw it away. Its like a disposible woman.

Well according to Battle Gear arcade game, they share the same bodyframe and engine [AE86 version]. But the major difference are mostly cosmetics (like Pontiac Vibe and Toyota Matrix); from the rear tailights, side trimmings, bumper, seats, dashboard detail, and of course, the headlights. Plus the ([AE86] Corolla) Levin GT-V is 400 kg lighter than the ([AE86] Sprinter) Trueno GT Apex (because of the flip-up headlights). ;)

Reading your posts I remembered what the real difference was (aside from the SOHC/DOHC thing). The Trueno has a rear limited-slip differential, the Levin doesn't.

they are some pretty ****in heavy lights. never know a car that its lights are heavier then its engine.

Its not just the lights, there are some heavier exterior body trimings.

On a lower-end Levin models, but not the [AE86] GT-V model.

You do realise 400 kg is close to 1000 lbs? I think you added one zero too many, there. Unless the Levins were made out of lead or something.

Both cars suck, you're right, but on initial D, Bunta had spent his whole life customizing the 86 specifically for downhill drifting. When Takumi blew the engine, he replaced it with a 4A-GE 1.6 litre 16-valve DOHC engine that Project D souped up over time. He had to change the tachometer as the new engine could reach 11,000 RPM.. He also reduced the weight by adding a carbon fibre hood. Anyway, back to the topic, on final stage, when Takumi races Shinji Inui, it explains what the difference is between an AE86 Trueno and a AE86 Levin. The Trueno is a 3 door, built for aerodynamics, and the Levin is a 2 door, built for toughness. The Trueno is used in circuit races and the Levin is used in rally races. If both cars weren't modified, they would just be a slow family car. It just goes to show that you can make the best out of the worst.

The Levin doesn't work on Saturdays.
