what's the difference between a standard WRX and a WRX-STi Version?

The standard WRX has a 2.0 liter horizontally-opposed four cylinder, turbocharged with ~14.7 psi, producing 227 horsepower and 217 lb-ft of torque through Subaru's AWD system.

The STi version has a 2.5 liter horizontally-opposed four cylinder, turbocharged again to ~14.7 psi, producing 300 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque through a special version of the AWD system with limited-slip differentials in the front and rear.

In other words, the WRX rocks, and the STi rocks even harder.

so the standard WRX sedan is available in AT, isn't it?

Not all STI's have gold wheels, I think it's optional, and yes the standard WRX is available in AT, though I don't know why anybody would buy one in an automatic....

Yep, the STi's have optional gold or silver BBS wheels - your choice.

AT is not all that bad, especially since they seem to handle power increases better than the very very fragile Subaru 5MT boxes. I know of a AT WRX that is running low 12s without N2O.

Sti's have no radio in order to save weight.
Actually, there are about 6 of them on a dealer's lot around here. I've only ever seen one on the street, though this dealer seems to be moving them pretty well.

Yeah, but you'd get your ass handed to you by the STi. :)

Not sure...something to do with Prodrive?

STi suspension is completely different... i forgot what else... but lots... if you really want answers to the technical differences i would suggest going to the subaru worlwide website or hte usa one and looking at eh spec sheets... there is a good explanatory spec sheet at the aus, us, or worldwide one...

It's an option if you really want to listen to the radio in your STi, but if I owned one, I would be listening to the muffler instead of the radio :D

Yea, you'd probably want to have a radio after a while. I couldn't live without a radio in my car.

You own a WRX STi? Man, describe to me how it handles! :D

I usually don't listen to the radio anyways, so it's good both ways for my case. It's going to be hard to own the car anyways because it has such a high profile if you know what I mean [Insurance, jealousy from other people, etc.].I heard from one owner from another forum that their STi got jacked and debadged! Wow, scary thought :nervous:

$35,000 USD? What options are on the car?

thats gotta be out the door price with healthy options... in which case you could not get a cobra for hte same price... unless the dealer cut you a deal...

The $35,000 is the cobra out the door . The WRX STi run's the 1320 in 13.36 in American trim. Cobra run's 12.5's. Cobra also has another 100HP. I'd take the cobra too. There's only one 4 door I'd ever get, and that's an Evo VI.

Not to mention, the Cobra get's better lap times at both Seabring and Circuit de La Sarthe. I would say the Cobra is the better buy, and I dont' even like the cobra. But I suppose if you're looking for a Family car, you'd go for the STi

or one with 4wd... for a while i was seriously considering a wrx... but it just isnt logical to get the wrx and not the STi... but i will stick to my hopes of getting a 944 turbo s...

Bengee, actually it's quite logical. A Cheaper car leaves you more room to spend on it, does it not?
Oh and by the way the Cobra will run 11 second quarter miles with about 100 bucks in modifications.

LOL i guess you are right... what i meant is that you do get quite a bit of stuff that the wrx doesnt... when you get an STi... and while alot is design and looks... teh suspension is quite different... which means that the entire cars handling is different... the engine is different... well not horrible but you get my drift... i think i would get a 350z... what else can you get for 35 out the door... s2000... that would be another good choice... excluding evo i dont think that there are many awd sport vehicles anymore... a sad thing really... i would like to have a awd car to take to the mountains... int eh winter... that was my primary interest... oh well...

hey what do you guys think of mitsu eclipse GSX's... and what other awd cars are there for around the same price... i think the W8 passat is awd... but a bit more moeny right... not what i am looking for anyways... vr4 is just dam heavy... anything

Holden is going to start soon to make a 4WD LS1 V8 commodore that starts off with 315hp

now that is estrogen soaked...

or at least i think so...

what about a4's... how much are they...

i think gsx's arent bad... i mean its 4wd... definitely the best eclipse you can get... and it doesnt have to be rice... with the factory kit and body integrated spoiler it doesnt look half bad... or maybe i am used to it since my gf has a gs...

No it's an awful car, if you REALLY want to get a 4G63 powered car get a Galant VR4or prefferably a Lancer Evo VIII, I mean it's in the 35,000 dollar range aslong as it's the base model. A4's are nice, but they look IDENTICAL to VW Passats, simply because they share the same design and what not...but anywho.I've known a couple of people with A4's and they liked em. But the GSX, with the "Factory integrated spoiler" the 2nd Gen eclipse, has the crank walk problems. Actually MOST DSM eclipses have crank walk problems. Just don't get one.....don't......No GSX's no GS-T's

Show me a timeslip, of a stock Cobra doing a 12.5. Ford themselves were getting 12.9s with Drag Radials in the back, you just don't find .4 second like that nowhere.

Not to mention, the Cobra get's better lap times at both Seabring and Circuit de La Sarthe.

Got any proof of that? You do know that "Circuit the La Sarthe" is the track they use for the 24 hours of Le Mans, and that it's in full use (meaning in Le Mans length) only one month per year, privately so (meaning the general public can't drive on it), too? Not trying to be a smartass, i just want to see some facts.

Then again, a WRX STi will destroy a Cobra on a gravel road, or a twisty mountain-eous road...

Lol, this guy is SOOOOOOO sceptical isn't he. It's sad when someone has some truths to say, and the first thing out of people's mouths is "I Don't believe you"..Ok want some proof, i'll post some links.
