Ok guys, we've had the ugliest cars on sale today so, "What's the ugliest car of all time?"

I think I still go with the cars of today. It's hard but I think there are two:

Pontiac Aztek:

And the rear of the Ssangyong Stavic:

There are probably much uglier cars out there, but I don't know any older cars.

I second the nomination for the Aztec . But here are some other worthy nominations.

I'm not really a fan of male genitalia. ^^

I'd drive a Pacer all my life rather than be seen in an AMC Matador:

K-cars are just dull; they lack the real maliciousness of horrible proportions and bad detailing that is the hallmark of a truly ugly car.

Say what you will about the 'form follows function' roofline, what makes the Multipla truly ugly is the proportion of the giant cranium to the dinky little body underneath, which is enhanced by one of the worst detail decisions in recent history, ie that stupid "oops we misjudged" bump below the windshield (you can tell the stuck the stupid driving lights up there just to give it some reason to exist. If they had just faired the hood up into the windshield base at the A-pillar, it would have been almost acceptable:

The stockholders should lynch whoever greenlighted this thing. Again, it's the detailing that seals the fate of an already badly-proportioned body:

I'd also have to go with the Datsun F10:

The Citroen Ami has to win a prize:

Not to mention the mid-'80s Mercury Cougar:

Note that I'm sticking to mainstream cars that actually sold, not complete washouts that never made it.

Good God! That is one heinous vehicle. It makes the ones I posted look GREAT (well except the Trueno).

Edit: I just can't look away. It's so bad that one finds himself staring at it wondering how it ever came to pass. I hereby revoke my nomination of the aztec as I am now squarely in the multipla camp.

I second the nominations of the Multipla and the Ami. Until today I had never seen the Ami, but that is just downright hideous.

I think this vehicle also deserves a nomination.

Firstly, the basic design probably took around 2 minutes to come up with. It's pretty much a box stacked on top of a longer box. Absolutely no inspiration. But, add in the large, protruding front bumper, the ridiculously bland styling of the front grille and headlights, and to top it all off, tiny little tires that don't fit the car's styling. I think what makes this car so hated in my mind (from a stylistic standpoint), is that lots of people actually think it's cool. But it is not cool, IT'S A BLODDY BOX!

Honorable mention goes to...

The Chevrolet Uplander/Pontiac Montana SV6/Saturn Relay/Buick Terazza. This is easily the most stylistically confused vehicle ever made. The designers started out with a hideously ugly SUV front end, then remembered they were supposed to be designing a minivan, so they went with that for the rest of the vehicle. But, they forgot to go back and change the front end. And, one of my neighbours has just purchased one it seems, so I have to stare at one of these abominations every time I look out my kitchen window, so my hatred for this vehicle is only compunded by this.

danoff: Thanks for the K body picture. Mine was pretty much identical to that. :D

Duke: You stole my nomination, the Ami was designed by a blind man as a retrobution for the seeing. Fortunatly, I have a backup:

I think this vehicle [Scion xB] also deserves a nomination.
That's actually off my list, not because it's cool (it isn't) or attractive (it isn't), but because overall the detailing is well themed and ties the (albeit simple) forms together.

You've got that backwards. They started out desigining a minivan, but then realized that A) it looked exactly like the minivan it was "replacing", and B) the old versions didn't sell anyway; so they stuck a fake SUV front end it in hopes it would fool enough customers to pay for the development costs they had just wasted. And that brings another truly ugly vehicle to mind, the 'Dustbuster" minivans:

This isn't the ugliest car in this thread, but I do hate it.

The prius is a fat car. It's needs a diet in a big way. It's not the down syndrome look of the multipla, but overweight is no good.

Just a Question, what makes the Pacer better than the Matador? I quite like the Avanti.

I'll second the Ami, Multipla, Stavic and Datsun F10,

I'll raise you a 1962 Dodge Dart, 1973 Ford Thunderbird, The entire line of Smart cars, Lexus SC 430, Toyota Solara (looks like the SC430 pulled through a taffy puller) Scion xA(and for that matter the entire Scion Brand), Pontiac Aztek, Chevrolet Avalanche, Honda Ridgeline, and Honda Element. Phew- long list! :)

I hate the Matador because of the huge gawky overhangs, the overall clunky proportions, and the general awkwardness of every possible line. The Pacer by comparison is neat, self-contained, and well resolved.

'62 was a bad year for Chrysler, I agree. In fact the full-size cars are worse then the Dart by a good margin.

The SC430 should indeed have been on my list as well, in both coupe and convertible form. Talk about junk in the trunk! Again, totally awkward lines; each curve is just painfully self-conscious, like the Matador. In fact if you exchange the stupid owl-eye headlights of the Matador for the "we're pulling extreme Gs now" pieces from the SC430, it's pretty much the same car updated.

How is the 58 Impala ugly? I think it looks pretty cool. But the ugliest car ever? Honda CRX.

You ask me why it's ugly and then you nominate this?

Dude you have issues...

Kdding :P

I suppose but I would take a massive hunk of metal over a little go-kart any day.

My nomination:

Lotus Europa.

It seems as if the design boys at Lotus wanted to get to the pub so bad they jotted in a box and dropped their pencils and left. The hard-edge production chiefs (they don't drink because of deadlines and don't smoke cause Uncle Colin hates it) took the design and started building it.

Come Monday morning, the designers come back with huge headaches and scream as their beautiful design was actually produced!

"We weren't done yet!" they proclaimed, as dozens of Europas rolled out of the Hethel assembly plant.

So the Lotus Europa goes down in history as the unfinished (hence ugliest) design of our age. There are such things as afterthoughts, but leaving the whole back half out is inexcusable. Even the decently pretty front end doesn't make up for the box on the tail. They look just as bad in person, but they're smaller, so you end up getting a higher perspective of the ugliness. Eek.

You're insane.

Aside everything that's already been mentionned, I'll add the Audi TT. The interior is awesome, but from the outside, it looks like a turtle. And, well, goes like one, too, but that's another story.

:lol: That's funny. I Agree, Almost every Chrysler product of 1962 was hideous. In Fact, I'd venture to say the Dodge truck of that year was the least eye-abscessing model of the lineup. I can't wait to see what a certain GTP member has to say about your despisal of the Matador...;)

It's a '59:D. The CRX may be ugly, but not the ugliest ever. Oh well, to each his own. No, I retract that, I must protect my Chevy's Blood Brother! How, may I ask, Is the 1959 Chevrolet Impala/Bel Air/Biscayne Ugly??? It's the most beautiful car in the Thread! It's an American Art form at it's best. It even has the Definitive (in my Opinion) Hot rod wheel, A set of American Racing Torq-Thrusts. By far the Most beautiful car in this thread, and I'll go on to say it is one of the more beautiful cars that's ever been Built. Sure it isn't a Miura, but it isn't a '60 Biscayne either. :sly:

But, to each his own. :)

It is with great pain that I put mercedes on this list

G500_main.jpg

It looks like it should have a horse in front. This vehicle ^^^ only works if you're in Africa next to some lions or elephants or something.

...and then there's the new R class.

r_class_4.jpg

It "fuses the sedan and the SUV" into a slopey mini-minivan
