Hey I decided to start a new thread. Just curious what everyone's racing history is. For instance here's mine:
1983-1985: Got an Atari 2600 for Christmas. My very first racing game was Activision's Enduro, which featured an allnite & allday race that I suppose goes on forever if you're good. you have to pass 200 cars per day & nite..but this number gets higher and with each passing night, you can go faster. Best thing about the game: the night & day. Enduro was of course very primitive but the sunset was colorful. The game was challenging but monotonous!
1989: At some point I got an Atari 7800 and played Pole Position for awhile. I got good enough to win a trophy or something, but I don't remember much about this...another primitive game.
1991 to 1998: we can consider this era to be my Dark Ages. I wasn't gaming at all!
1999: Had a friend who worked in a bar and she got me hooked on an arcade game called Cruisin' USA, a semi-realistic racing deal in which you raced laps around a bunch of crazy tracks. Actually, it's not very realistic to be flying around like you do in Cruisin'...not without broken shocks and blown tires that is.
October-December 2003: Sick of playing Dark Souls, Resident Evil, and others in which we die over and over, I decided to try a racing game since here's a game in which I can't die! I got Ford Racing from Empire Interactive, a game in which you participate in seasons Each season is harder than the next. You race a Ford Ka in the first season, then a Fiesta, then an Escort, etc. and finally wind up with the mighty GT90. This game got me hooked but paled in comparison to...
December 2003-March 2004: ...Gran Turismo 1. Ha ha! I read about this game on a game reviews website and decided to give it a try. First car: a black 1988 Nissan Silvia Q's 1800cc.
March 2004-...: Gran Turismo 2. After an entire year, I'm still exploring all the cars in this game. Lord knows when I'll be done with it! First car: 1982 Toyota Starlet.
