Everywhere I have read this question on the net the replies have been yes... followed by no :banghead:

So I thought I would ask here because it is needlessly confusing.

If I have someone's number, add them to Whatsapp, but they don't have my number will I show up on their screen?

I believe if you start a conversation it will show your number until they add you to contacts, then it should display your name.

Ahh I see. So they don't see you at all until you send them a message and after that you appear as a phone number in their Whatapp till they put you in contacts.

Thanks

Why oh why did MSN messenger die, it really was better imo.

MSN live messanger died because microsoft ruined it after 2009 and then after they bought skype they said you will need to use skype.

Whatsapp is awesome really when you get used to it.

Microsoft were really stupid in thinking people would just move over to Skype for that functionality, pretty much no one uses Skype for IM. They took a perfectly good product and killed it for no reason, it could have been Whatsapp if they had had some foresight.

They also lost users when they went to the ribbon UI in 2010 and removed some functionality as well.

I don't think I even used it to that point, don't remember seeing a ribbon UI. By then so many people had stopped been online on it and had moved to other platforms.

Whatapp looks like it fell out of the 90's visually but at least it's clean and lightweight, Skype on the other hand is getting worse and worse, they can't even fix the appearing permanently online bug that everyone hates.
