Wheel "glitter" - how to avoid?

I notice in a lot of my in-motion photos that the wheels appear to have static or a glitter like appearance to the spokes. Is there a method for avoiding this? Or is it just a byproduct of a metallic finish on the wheels?

Definitely not a byproduct, it happens a lot from light reflection too, think it's just an odd blur effect.
