This thread is dedicated to those who wish to venture out onto the track, have people throw stuff at drivers and officials, and do God knows what to ruin racing.

I guess the premise behind this topic is an example I've seen last year and maybe this year or 2 years ago. I recall watching some Formula One races (I don't really watch them anymore, but still fun), and I've seen clowns venture out on track causing ruckus. It's the same deal as the Super Bowl this year. Some nut ventured out onto the field at Reliant Stadium (in my hometown of Houston, of course) before the 3rd Quarter started.

But I'm not talking the NFL, I'm talking racing. When racing fans get out of line, they do things that make almost any race fan discouraged. Examples of this are in my "Jeff Gordon" thread, when he was handed the win and fans dumped crap all over his car. And if you elect to do so, what can be done to silence these fans when they get out of line during a race? Reply now.

Back in 1989, I went to the IMSA Grand Prix of Palm Beach. The Jaguar XJR-12 had two huge exhaust pipes coming from the back of the V-12 engine, both of which provided an amazing aural cacophony that delighted my ears.

Early on in the race, however, one of the exhaust pipes had come loose; a cylindrical piece of metal about a foot long and at least 3-4 inces wide was now on the track, right in front of our grandstand. One car hit it, and it bounced against the wall. We all sort of "ducked for cover". The pipe ricocheted (sp?) off the concrete wall, but was still on the racing line, where it was punted again and again, and by this time, the crowd was starting to shout at the corner workers "Get that thing out off the track!" It was finally batted away into the track infield by a car, but only after it bounced about 10 feet up in the air.

So when I saw people throwing plastic bottles at Jeff Gordon because of a ruling that was made by the track officials, it all appears a little shallow. It's just a race, after all. Did those fans have a clue what iot would be like if a car part had hit them? They'd probably be killed, yet they all thought it was okay to toss something at a speeding car. Idiots.

I also remember seeing tape a fan jump on the field of an NFL game back in the early 70's. He ran around, but instead of security handling him, a linebacker just decided to tackle him. That was enough for that moron...Running accross a race track is even more harmful, because you can not only kill yourself, but others if you're hit by a car. Poor Tom Pryce was killed in the 1977 South African GP when a corner worker tugged a fire extinguisher while crossing the track.

I say a fan should be arrested for throwing anything onto a field, court, rink, or track while the game is being played. That simple. Endangering other's isn't cool; and as much as these overpaid players may whine about nonsence, there's absolutely no reason they should tolerate a fan jumping out to them or tossing something at them.

I'm a bit of a new-schooler to the NFL, so thanks for that comment, Pupik. As "Pardon the Interruption" co-host Tony Kornheiser would say, the idiots that dare to ruin a race by throwing stuff at the racers or cornerworkers or daresay threaten the flow of a race "have to be arrested to the full extent of the law." By the way, I bet the Jaguar XJR-12 ought to be an absolute joy to listen to. When that race was out, I was probably 6 years old with a little afro. I was still a cute little boy back in the day.

If a person jumps out onto the track to get exposure, that person needs to get their a$$es...

A.) arrested.
B.) kicked.
C.) both A and B.

So take a guess. You'll be quizzed in the future.

That sucks.

A few Years ago in the Spanish La Liga, (soccer league for you in the US) A midfielder named Luis Figo moved from Barcelona to Real Madrid. These two teams were great rivals and the Barcelona fans were none too pleased. When the teams came to play eachother, Figo was pelted by a constant barrage of missiles. Coins and bottles were thrown, some fans were so annoyed that they were even throwing their mobile phones at him. The real shock came when Figo went to take a corner and a pig's head!! landed a few yards away from him. Anyone who throws something should be arested. Or mabye in answer to John's question, B, then A, then B again!!

When I went to Barcelona, we had a rental car with license plates from Madrid. Rabid fans of Barcelona would honk their horns and shout at us when we were cruising through the city, thinking we were Real Madrid fans. The Catalonians were fond of honking at anyone with "MM" on their plates, incidently, so I felt rather at home. UF versus FSU doesn't hold a candle to that rivalry, apparently!

Still, no excuses for throwing anything or yourself on the track/field.

I'm kinda glad that america doesnt like futbol. Our drivers are already bad enough, with state rivialries it would make for a whole lot more road rage and violence.

As for people going out on, throwing stuff on, doing something to the compettitors on a race track, inside a stadium or on a field during ANY sporting event, they should be arrested, fined 10,000-100,000 dollars or the same equivilant in their countries currency. Jail time doesnt do anything all that much, now hit them in their pockets and then the message will get thru that these actions will not be tollerated.

I dont like the fact that organisers have to pay fines for idiots running out on the track. I JOKINGLY think the organisers should have an open field day with snipers up on towers. Go out on the track and get a bullet between your eyes before you even step foot on the ground after jumping over a barrier. once again I'm joking.
I bet if they put up signs stating that ^ people wouldnt do it anymore.
