I'm reviewing My choice of Comms. and wondered what your experiences have been.

Three options I'm considering (happy to consider others):

1: Microsoft in ear wobbly wireless headset, with race sound coming from the speakers. (concerned that headset will pick up race sound, and I'll only hear Race sounds via one ear as the headsets in the other ear! as well as my big ears these sort of things never feel comfortable!)

2: True Wireless Headset (Tritton Warhead) not out yet and XBOX only :(
it's wireless, simple cables (FIBRE, powered by USB) and I can have all sound in both ears!

3: Headset plugged into Wheel ( I currently have Tritton AX720's)

Benefits as above but messy cables everywhere, Comms via 2.5mm Jacks is not always brilliant (although on the PS3 Comms is via USB and it's superb)

So in the time honored fashion Which way would you, or have you gone and Why?

Thanks

Mo

I use Turtle Beach x41s.

7.1 Dolby surround sound.
Wireless (headphones to decoder - Headphone to control pad wire for voice).
Very comfortable.
Extremely good sound quality.
Little to no feedback (echo).

Only problem is they aren't very cheap.

What do those of you with Fanatec wheels use? Plugging the wired headset into the wheel doesn't work properly, so I've just stopped using it.

Before actually trying them, I thought they were priced a bit too high as well, but for what you get, I believe the amount you have to spend is absolutely justified. Surround sound audio quality is excellent and one of the best out there amongst other console headsets. Voice chat quality is also good. Audio coming through it has a pleasant sounding balance, and can be quite entertaining to listen to, especially with bass boost enabled.

The only significant downsides I can think of are that the very early models screech in the user's ears just as the batteries are about to die, and later models automatically shut off early to protect you from that screeching, but don't beep to warn you ahead of time that the batteries are low before actually shutting off. Hopefully they have corrected all those problems by now.

The xbox 360 wireless ear piece is what I use when playing audio through my home theatre setup. It has much better audio quality than the pack-in wireless headset. Give it a shot if you can spare the money.

Problem is, you can't use wireless mic's when they're charging. Go wired all the times.

I use the X11 Turtle Beaches. They have good great sound quality, wired, use a 7.1 Surround sound, and are fairly cheap. You will have full surround gameplay, without worrying whether or not you would wake up the family. You can also adjust Chat Volume, which is the volume of people speaking, and Game Volume, the volume of the game your playing. It's relatively easy to setup, and you can turn your TV all the way down to listen to the amazing that is surround sound headphones. This way nobody in the house will have to be annoyed by a game your playing.

Price is $60 USD.

After researching and reading several reviews, I purchased a Rocketfish wired headset/mic. They are comparable to the Turtle Beaches as far as features and price...and the customer reviews are excellent. They're on sale for $40 at Best Buy right now...hopefully they don't cause the same problems that the Xbox headset does with Fanatec wheels.

I bought my wife the Turtle Beach x3 a few years ago and they are very very good especially for only $100.00. We tried the $200.00 Turtle beach headests and IMO they were not as good. It was one of the few times in my life where "You get what you pay for" did not apply. We ended up taking them back and got the TBx31. Excellent wireless headset for the price. 👍

The X11 can only do surround sound if plugged into something like the x41's wireless transmitter. On its own, it's just a stereo headset, more or less like a wired version of the x31's but with less features. Dynamic chat boost and a mic monitor feed are the only things important that it is missing.

The old x4 (not 41) were a piece of garbage sound quality wise, because they used IR instead of Digital RF. Not worth it over the x3's. They also never played well with plasma televisions.

Today, the x41's sound better than the x31's, but are not really worth getting unless you really want surround sound.

I have 5.1 X-Tatics which have amazing sound quality. But... head tracking is thrown off when using a head set and the supplied XBOX adapter doesn't fit into my CSR.... so, I don't talk lol.

I'm new to Xbox and chat and Fanatec wheels. I bought a Turtle Beach X41. I thought it was wireless, but it has a lead that has to plugged into a controller for chat to work. I've read problems with Fanatec xbox chat jacks.

How do others hook this up? Can you plug it into another xbox controller?

Beginning to think maybe I bought the wrong headset....

I've had both the X11 and P11 Turtle Beach headsets, both have broken after a few months of heavy use

I'm quite tempted to go for the Turtle Beach PX21 so I can have voice chat on both PS3 and Xbox, but for £60 I don't want them breaking after a few months again

Your only choice for wireless chat on the xbox at the moment is the official wireless ear piece. AFAIK, no one else wants to pay the premium it costs to make their headset wireless with the xbox.

Other than that you have yourself a good headset.

Anything X31 and above seems to be more durable when it comes to Turtle Beach headsets. They are more fragile than some of the other big brands on the market, but they are also more light weight and comfortable to wear, especially in comparison to the AX Pro's I hate using. Both the X31 and X41 I own have been used extensively for a couple of years, and both show no signs of physical wear and tear. I guess it comes down to how you treat your things.

The X11's breaking was my fault, I always wrapped the cable around the headphones until the day when I snapped off the earpiece when wrapping it too tight, the P11 on the otherhand was not my fault and only happened the other day, I took them off to go to the toilet, came back and one earpiece wasn't working

Hope to buy the PX21 on Friday and I'll be guarding the receipt with my life

2 Christmas' ago I was tempted to give the PX21s a shot when they had them going for a really good price (either $29.99 or $39.99). What stopped me from bothering was all the complaints I heard about that particular model, and how easy they were to break. For some reason all the PS3 Turtle Beach headsets seem to have that type of rep. That was over two years ago though, so things could have improved with them by now.

Put some extra money down and buy a safe, and throw your receipt in there ;)

I have used Dolby surround sound before, it is horrible to ears. So after that I changed it, now I am using wired headset that plugs into the controller.

I use my Beats Pro by Dre. Best sound I've ever heard compared to my other Turtle Beaches. Unfortuneatly there is no mic.

Race audio out of the 5.1 surround sound system, Comm through a Protronics Voyager UC+ V2, unless I'm on the xbox...... for forza I just use the crappy stock mic and switch it on in the lobby only
