When will Gran Turismo Sport's servers go offline?

GT5's servers shut down about half a year after GT6's release. It was the same for GT6's servers after GT Sport's release. Based on this you can make an educated guess on the matter once GT7's release date is announced. Plus, when it does happen we will sadly have yet another unobtainable Platinum Trophy since quite a few trophies are tied to online play.

GT7 won't release until Q4 2021 or so. Therefore you have plenty of time to play it as the servers will likely be active for a year after that.

a permanent internet connection is required for GT sport , the day they close its servers is the day the game will die

I wonder if the difference here will be that the game is on a new machine platform. Unrealistic to expect owners to upgrade to new console after only 6 months. I think there will be more overlap. I HOPE there will be!

My expectation is that they will release GT7 on ps5 on close to day one but it'll be a mess and they'll need some work getting it up to par.

Then after they have sold enough GT7 on ps5 they will suddenly release a port of GT7 on ps4 because they cant look at that 100 mil plus ps4 base and not want to get some dollars out of it.

So in light of all this mess they will keep up GT Sport for as long as GT7 remains something they have to support which means I think there's probalby at least 18 months to 2yrs of GT Sport left simply because the situation is that complicated.

Not just the platinum trophy, you can't make any progress without the server. Online saves will make GTS useless when the servers turn off, just some arcade races left. I guess FIA races will stop first, migrate to GT7. Then matchmaking will be turned off, no more dailies or lobbies. Yet I imagine that PD can't just turn off online saves as well?

Hopefully liveries and decals can all migrate over to GT7, the car models will be the same.

Don't you think there's a chance they'll do a final update to the game to adapt it to solely offline play? I'm not familiar with programming but I imagine all they need to do is to remove the bit of code in the game files that puts up all the offline restrictions. Let players access all offline portions of the game and just use a conventional save file on your PS4. How hard can that be?

True, a small end of life patch, disabling the multiplayer sections and switching to local saves. I imagine all the updates will be available a lot longer. No idea though, are the GT5 update patches still available?

The Offline patch, true oxymoron... But you'll need it to play the disc version in the future lol.

Yes they are. GT5 Prologue on the other hand had dedicated servers for its patches and since those are shut down there is no way to update the game. To play the game in its final form you need to have the physical Spec III release.

I hope GT7 is before Q4 2021 because the candle gone out on GT Sport now.

I have GT5/6 on my old PS3 with its ancient 10yr old plus hdd... be nice to be able to back that crap up somewhere since it doesnt seem like you're going to be able to restore that to its current up to date status.

Same as GT Sport really... its going to be the same sort of half assed crap show until the end but it seems a lot of software is a temporary thing.
