which should be faster?

mr2 93-95 vs 240sx 91-93 with sr20det vs fd3s 93-95 rx-7 vs 01-03 wrx(not sti) all of them with same hp around 280. suspension mods are done, but just with bolt on parts, no welding or changing a arms, just suspension, roll bars, without goin over 5 grand in that area. all the cars have full interior. which should get the fastest time on the race track with all kinds of turns in it? with the same driver, in which order should they win? i dont really want opinions based on performance #s, but facts based on what youve seen on the track, like vid or actual events. i picked these cars, cause they re the cars i might get, but i want to get info to convince me on what i should get.

One thing I just need to say, beware of RX7s. They're great cars, but there's a lot of expense you won't expect, in that you almost always need to replace the engine. Rotaries don't last too long.

On a track I'd probably have to say..
1st-FD3S
2nd-MR2
3rd-WRX
4th-180sx

With the same horsepower and tuned suspension, it would be pretty close. It would probably come down to the drivers. The WRX would probably take the lead off the start, followed closely by the mr2, but I think the mr2 and FD would probably corner better. (less understeer) I've never read or seen videos of a 180sx racing on a track, so I don't really know how that would fit in...that's why I just put it last. I'm kind of interested in what other people's views will be of this.

Ammmm...you are partially wrong....
Have you ever owned a rotary?
Rotaries are more expensive to maintain, and they do require more maintenence, seals should be changed every 50,000km.
However, the engines do not need to be replaced once taken care of properly, and you do go to a qualified rotary mechanic.

I'd say the RX-7, bc its a rotary, yes i do agree with GaryR, rotars are pretty expensive to get em going but once you do you'll be very happy. :D

The RX7 would most likely win on both the road and the track because the RX7 weights the least, at 2789lbs in Base model and 2862lbs in touring trim
The SW20 would be second in both track and 1/4 because it weights about 200lbs less than the imprezza and has the MR layout for decent Rear wheel traction....

I'm not sure about the 240Vs the WRX on the road because the WRX is the heaviest of the group, but the 240 is the heaviest of the RWD.

with cars that close, driver skill would most definately determine the results.

i really dont think many people are in a place to judge this :(

i dont even know why im browsing this forum.......

If you were somehow able to clone the driver (so they are exactly alike) and put them on a track, it would be close. If the track was wet, the WRX would have the advantage (though that doesnt always mean it will win). I'd have to do more research first...

You're going about it backwards, in my opinion. If your goal is to be fast on the track, you should really be looking into which driving school to attend, instead of which car to get.

Any of those cars can be driven fast. If you really want undisputed proof, I'd visit the SCCA site for Runoffs results in Showroom Stock classes. My guess is RX-7, WRX, MR-2, then 240.

No, I don't own one, but I may buy one, and so I've been doing a lot of research. I shouldn't have said replace, actually, I should have said rebuild. Yes, it's not always necessary, but it often is. Just because you take care of it doesn't mean the guy who sold it to you did.

anyone have info on how 180sx does on the track, or maybe the 95-98 240sx?

They are great on the track. Not the fastest, but still fun. MY old 95' did well. Beat alot of the bigger guys becuase of the acceleration it has (well, after mods, of course) but other than than, it handles well (kinda wobbles and feels unstable on wet tracks, but stays firm). Then do an SR20 swap and your ready for drifitng

no one seems to know much about the 240sx, i mean this cars known for its cornering ability, but i wanted to see how it really does on the track.
