Why always start last or 2nd to last

96% of the time i am last or 2nd to last on every on line race

why is that

also, when matching players, does it usually take you about 1 to 2 minutes for that online matching thing to work before joining race?

I don't race online that much, but I do know that the grid system is put together using the pp system, if your car has 799 you will normally start ahead of a car with 800, but I'm not sure how it decides who go's where if everyone has the same pp, it's probably he who joins first starts first :)

Yes, it can take a while to join a race, be patient 👍

i thought that it has to do with how i usually finish, as i usually finish in the back

sawudoit is my name on there, i am slow but getting faster

From what i understand your grid position is based off of your PP's and tire's used if their is a tire choice, The faster/better tuned cars start in the back and slower/not as good tuned cars in front. The farther back in the grid you start the better chance you have of winning

Also depends on connection, I have a similar problem unless the chosen host is from Australia.

I'm pretty sure it has to do with your connection speed after PP. So from my experience.
1. PP
2. Connection speed
3/4. I think i remember reading the ticker on the loading screen saying better players start at the back of the pack.
3/4. Alphabetical(unless it is just a coincidence that when ever i race i see alot of people ordered alphabetically, not everyone but more than normal)

Im sure that if your on equal points and dont join a race late you are placed in order of skill, but if you only just make the race your at the back to most times,

I'm quiet convinced besides the PPs it is exclusiveley down your connection speed, and, IMO more so to your location (distance to server).

*Side note off topic: PPs should not be an issue, at least not in the events run here at GTPlanet, since it is requested to run a specific PP level ("not more, not less"...)*

PP topic thus excluded here's my experience: eg Crazytortise and mysef, both located in South Africa, are ALWAYS together in the back row. We are average to maybe (sometimes) good drivers, we win some, we loose more. But it does make no difference whatsoever whether we are in a grid full of 12 RX-8s, same tyres, same PPs, we are at the back. C and R are quiet far away from each other so I exclude the alphabet as well. If I happen to end up in a random race, eg. with the 512 on S3s up against a bunch of Clios on R Tyres, I'm still at the back!
When I started running the 512 on S3s at Suzuka, I barely finished a race: I still get placed in the back.
Theres been events where I could manage wins or podium positions often: I still get placed in the back....
So with that I'd tend to exclude your race performance as well.

In essence: your connection speed AND even more your location are the only factor, same PPs given. I've got a 4mb line (not as good as in Asia with 100mb lines, but good enough and still better then standard 1024 DSL which still is in use a lot as I believe. Still I'm last. => Distance to the server or rather your ping/latency is key!

So: just get used to it or rather learn to enjoy it. When I started online racing I got frustrated from always being at the back, but then I discovered its much more fun to hunt than to be hunted. A 3rd place from 12th is so much more satisfying than hanging onto your pole position (IMO) 👍

I agree with you sir 100%. Nothing like hunting down you prey and attacking :sly: will be seeing you in the back of the grid tonight in the Cali 👍

You can count on that my friend!!! Looking forward to that!

If everybody has 800PP in a 800PP for example, faster cars are in the back. A Ford GT with 800PP will be more in the back of the grid but a viper SRT-10 with the same amount of PP will be more in the front. That's what I've noticed since I'm playing online. (8 Months)

Don't think that works either. I was in a race at Daytona Oval, with tuned Vettes and i was driving a tuned Lotus! Guess where i was, yes you guessed it in the back of the pack! And i know it's NOT because i'm fast.:)

This makes sense. I forgot to mention that i usually start last in local races. But in world events my placement is more random. I live in west coast Canada so in non world events i mostly race against US drivers. Which would mean i am located farther away than most. So ping/latency does seem to be key. Hopefully in GT5 there will be online events that you can qualify in.

Not sure about connection... when we're all at, say, 650... my placement seems pretty random...

I sometimes lower my PPs on purpose, just to get a good start on my opponent... It's fun playing the tortoise... ...and sometimes I max them out, when I'm feeling up to a challenge...

I usually drive the Evora that can use only 4 gears on most of the tracks, and it's not exactly a rocket.. but how come the supposedly better tuned cars etc don't just rocket past me? :odd: could it be because they're mostly cheater-Clios? 💡
