Why do I get penalized for "driving to fast"?

Hey, and welcome btw!

I can understand that that is annoying.

Is it because you cut the corners a bit too much? The chicanes at Monza for instance, or the last chicane on Nurnburg gp. Thats the first what comes too mind. The track boundry rules in the daily's / FIA races tend to be set more strict then in the offline campaign. Happened too me also.

Or does the game actually gives you a warning "time penalty, driving to fast" ?

...when you start getting better you can determine which corners can be cut and by how much w/o a penalty...

Then when you have that down which ones are worth the penelty because your racing line allows it to run off before the finish.

The way the track limits are designed it almost encourages cutting corners then finding the several easy parts of the track to run off the penelty because some tracks run off peneltys way to quick without losing much overall time, but you will take SR downs doing that but on some tracks it basically essential to keep pace.

@Ascendancy You cut a corner, exceeded track limits or hit a wall hard and got a penalty. You have to slow down to 'burn off' the penalty before you start your next lap or it becomes invalid.

Maybe he's referring to getting worse grid positions with faster qualifying times?

No idea, as the thread is vague as hell.

It could very much be that but since the his problem is when he Q for daily races perhaps he is placed in a higher DR lobby that his DR rating?

This part of the Posting Guidelines applies in this case:

"It has long been popular on Internet discussion boards to ridicule or embarrass users who may ask questions that could have easily been answered by searching the web or the forums. Indeed, many questions can be answered this way, and indeed, many users could make better use of the tools available to them. However, that is no reason to treat them with disrespect, as there is a wide and legitimate range of experience among users on the Internet. If you see someone on GTPlanet asking what you believe to be a trivial question, suggest keywords or links or simply ignore their questions altogether. Do not harass them."

What is obvious to many is not obvious to all, keep that in mind.

It may well be the case. Which is understandable to anyone who's new to the game, being confronted with a tougher lobby when Q times improve.

@banckzy he wouldn't get penalties replicating my laps though. :)

without wanting to read too much into peoples choice of user name... Getting a big red text on the screen saying SLOW DOWN, could be interpreted in many different ways :D

Edit : the first time I saw it in the game I thought omg what's happened ahead
