Why is the Tuning Database sometimes visited?

I have been wondering why there aren't too many people visiting and posting in the Tuning Database. I sometimes post there, and my tunes, and other's, are never looked at from my knowlege.

There are lots of great tunes in there, so why don't everyone's tunes get any kind of reccognition that we want them to have? I know that there are popular tuning forums, but it takes a while to find a tune that you need; while it's easy to look for one in the Database. I don't really understand or seem to see a reason behind this. Do you know?

Speaking from personal experience I have yet to find a tune in there to my liking, or if it's a slightly obscure car there are no tunes.

From the tunes I have tried it almost gives the impression that the poster has rushed it just to get it up, or to try to be the first for that car.

Having said that I think its possibly only 3 or 4 tunes I have tried in total, most of the time I'll attempt it myself usually ending in asking the guys I race with for help!

My view on it: Tunes are used for online season events.
In the topics of those events there are tunes posted and links to some tunes, but those links direct you to the topic/blog or website of the tuner, sometimes the link direct you to the tuning database.
Then again, i always try to tune myself, and if i can't manage to get gold on that event, i visit the topic for that event and try some other tunes.

Thank you, guys for your answer. I thought tunes were mainly used for any circumstance, rather than just a Seasonal. Don't people have a car that they like but they suck at getting a good tune for it?

I have visited the tunes but personally I like to learn, I admit to being useless at tuning but also like to adjust and feel the difference, good or bad, as I don't understand rebound etc.
Just taking a tune doesn't really teach me anything, it is a good feature for those that don't have the time etc.

That's a good way to look at it. You can learn more about how to tune, actually. Just the drivetrain applies. If a FR has a 3.0 Front Damper, then the FR you want to tune will have a similar tune to that certain part. It doesn't happen too much to where any drivetrain car's tune won't be similar to yours.

Hmmm, I visit it daily. My tuning skills are not so good on GT6. Trying out other people's tunes help me to figure out what I like and suits my driving style, and develop tunes on my own. I ck out GT5 also. I just used an LSD setup on a Golf that I found on GT5, and its a dream.

The tuners and their garages are no use to me, no disrespect to them, of course, they do a great job for those players that do choose to take advantage.

I have tried a couple of them from a few of the garages over the past two years I've been here but none have ever suited me and given me the control of the car that I wanted, I always heavily modified them until they where mostly unrecognizable from their tune-sheets.

I'd much rather tune the cars myself to suit my style for the circuit, tuning a car until it feels great to drive and getting that sense of satisfaction from the car when it does exactly what you want/need it to do, and where it seems like it could not be possible to get it any better is almost half the fun of the game for me.

Am I the only person that just does a quick transmission flip, and just set toe and camber to 0?
I always get gold, I'm usually a second or two from the record, but it's good enough for me.

I don't use the Tuning Database here because I think it's terrible. The tuning database I like to reference is:

https://sites.google.com/site/gt6tunes/home

That site is maintained by a GTPlanet member and it so much easier to just scroll through the list quickly. I'm sure many people like the tuning database here, I'm just posting my opinion.

I don't think that it is. I had a whole garage full of tunes that were never added to that database for whatever reason. I think maybe that database is reserved for the more elite and well known tuners, probably why my tunes never made it in there. I have since deleted my garage a few weeks ago and left the tuning to the more experienced and knowledgeable.

well , that's dumb; they should at least save the set ups for the less used cars.

Well, I have never found a better skyline m-spec tune than yours sir, and I would really love to be able to use it again.

I am not @XS but I think a possible reason he did not include your tunes is because they were already in Jordan's official Tune Database. You could ask him why though. I am not a well known tuner or a good tuner, I just get cars to drive how I want and allow others to try my settings also. I have driven a few of your tunes and they are very good tunes, not my favorite driving style but still an enjoyable drive. Because you can get such a result in your tuning, that makes you smarter than you are willing to admit. I was also surprised to see this when I went back to view your original tuning thread, instead of just abandoning it.

On topic, I know some of the tuners do not like the method of input and that is their reasoning for not using it. There may be people visiting and enjoying tunes in there but some of the people may not even be members of the forum. I didn't join until about a year after I started visiting the site, I was just enjoying some of the tunes put out there while learning the game.

I keep it updated as often as I can, which varies depending on my work schedule (I was unemployed when I started the directory, hence the change in the rate of updates). Yes, a lot of setups are intentionally left out. As DaBomm4 stated, anything in the GTP database is not in mine, unless the tuner has made a specific request for me to include it. The reason is because Jordan and I discussed both databases, and he wants to see folks transition from mine to his, and since it is his website from which my directory draws information from, I am more than happy to oblige. That's also why I stopped updating Seasonals, to promote usage of GTP's database. Don't get me wrong, I am more than happy to keep the directory running and I am very happy that people visit it! I wish I could devote more time to it, and I am thankful to all tuners that make it possible.

@GTP_CargoRatt
Believe me when I say I'm a big fan of your tunes! Trust me, you are well represented on the Seasonals page of the Tune Directory. I don't exclude anybody, least of all you! And I certainly do not have a group of Elite tuners I choose from. Sorry if I sound defensive but this very topic turned into a multi-page showdown in the Tuning Forum because people wanted me to exclude tuners they didn't like. I took the stance that all tuners are welcome, and it is up to the user to pick through the directory to find tuners they like. I still stand by that. Like I said above, individual tunes which are in GTP's database probably aren't in mine. Also, I certainly saw your garage when you built it, but unfortunately it fell right when I started my new job, so I didn't update the directory for almost all of May and June due to my suddenly packed schedule. Anyway, thanks for tuning man! Cheers!

Please, never close down your Tuning Database! I'm sorry to say this, but the Tuning Section of GTPlanet is awful. I feel bad having that opinion, but it is the truth. The search function isn't great. There is no organization. If I want to find a tune for my Lamborghini Aventador, for example, I have to go into "Advanced Search" and select Lamborghini from a drop-down box. Fine. Then it pulls up all the Lamborghini tunes that have been submitted, but they aren't organized by model. And then when I finally do find an Aventador tune that I decide to look at I notice, whoops, it's actually a "drift" tune, or a "drag" tune. I don't want those in my results!

But even worse still, in my opinion, is that ANY person can submit tunes to the GTPlanet Tune Directory. There are some bad tunes in that directory. I'm sorry, but there are. And let's just say that those particular tunes aren't bad, they just aren't suited for my driving style at all...fine. But now I have to try to make a mental note of who that tune was posted by so I can try to avoid any of their tunes in the future.

Your database is so perfect in it's setup because it is simple. Scroll to Lamborghini, see all the car models sorted alphabetically and see the tuner name next to the tune. It becomes a lot easier to try two or three tunes on my Aventador, for instance, when I'm using your database. I understand Jordan wants more people using the tuning database here. More pageviews equals more advertising revenue. And that's cool too. I hope Jordan makes money off this website - he deserves to! This is an awesome place to discuss all things Gran Turismo. But like I said, as far as just a general GT Tuning Database goes, you have made an incredible thing by keeping it nice and simple.

I know you don't have a tremendous amount of free time to dedicate to the Tune Directory, but just remember that so many people appreciate everything you have put into it. If Jordan would have just made a very simple Tuning Directory, without all the fluff, it would probably get used by a lot more people. However, like I said, one problem he will always have is the submission of so many tunes that are entered by people who aren't really qualified to be "tuners".

I appreciate the kind words very much! I am updating now, actually, but I always wonder if people still use it anymore, so I am always thrilled to hear that they do. Also, I'm not sure if you knew this, but you can also sort my directory by column, by clicking (or tapping if you're on mobile) the column headers. So you can sort the entire directory by Make, Tuner, PP, etc. Or you can filter it by PP or Tires, then sort it by Tuner, etc.

Anyway, when Jordan and I spoke briefly, he was extremely enthusiastic about GTPlanet's tuning database, and he wanted it to grow beyond the Gran Turismo series. He is limited in the number of ways he can set up the database, however. I think people should still bring these things up with him. It might seem like you're not making a difference, but you have to remember it takes him a long time to implement change, but trust me, he is listening and taking notes.

Once again, thank you for using my directory. I promise I will try harder to improve it and increase the frequency of tune updates. Cheers!

@XS oh, no...thank YOU! I obviously don't know THAT many people who play GT6. But, out of the people I know on a semi-personal level, I'd say 75% refer to your database at least weekly. Like I have said repeatedly about your site, it's just such a quick, no nonsense, no frills way to reach tunes that a GT6 player might be interested in trying. I am very aware of the sorting capabilities of your database. Yet another fantastic feature.

I'm thrilled to hear that you're updating it. I always glance at the news/notes section when I visit to see if you've posted anything for your visitors to know about. 👍

Awesome thanks! I don't want to hijack this thread, so I'll just add that if anybody has questions or concerns about my tune directory, I am always open to PM's.
The dedition to the tuning directory.
At the time that i asked the question, i was looking for some set ups for the not-so often used car and i remember i found them in a topic, but if i wanted to look for them in the directory or the Tunes page, i wouldn't find them

I am not sure but it could have been due to the tune directory being split due to the physics update of 1.09. Tunes older than 1.09 are in the archives section of the directory. These tunes may or may not drive as well as they use to due to the update. The tune database did not need such a system because the tunes (I believe) are required to have the game version it was made on.
