It's the only track I'm missing from GT5. Did Turn 10 snatch the license from PD.

And the F1 Ferraris

I imagine Turn 10 rocked up with more money than Polyphony did and got the TopGear license (Turn 10 have made far better use of it).

About the Ferrari F1s: it can get tricky to explain. Senna's Lotus 97T is in the GT6 intro, so it's likely to appear in-game at some point.

Now, you cannot have F1 cars from different manufacturers racing each other, since that is considered F1 racing and you need the license for that.

It's basically cheaper to license the cars rather than the series they race in as well. Also, Ferrari are somehow a special case when it comes to the FIA (don't get me started on that).

TLDR it's complicated and neither are coming back.

I know F1 is strict but they did get rally, nascar, super gt, gt3 etc.

Hell if we're talking money Ferrari 250 GTO is the most expensive car in the world and they got one.
52 million :)

I didn't like the cross-over bit in the middle - made it more of a destruction derby type circuit. Still, quite enjoyed the special event though, even if it was in the Samba Van!

Not a big loss in my opinion. Maybe Forza have exclusivity on Top Gear content now?

But F1 is the biggest motorsport in the world (not counting NASCAR, no-one outside the US knows what it is). It's as far from poor man's motorsport as can possibly be. And Bernie Ecclestone is stinking rich for a reason.

And physical price means nothing in these situations (the 250...)... it's all about a company wanting their image and products virtually represented.

Yeah but FOA are such pricks about the F1 licence... Even Codemasters struggle and arnt even allowed to realistically model damage, I can imagine a situation were PD just don't have the time to deal with them.
Id personally have more WEC stuff anyway as there is already a dedicated and pretty good F1 series

But I'm a bit gutted about the TG stuff missing and always hated that GT5 didn't have any of the realably priced cars or a list of the lap times in the game

Fixed.

it's not true, that is an excuse by PD

assetto corsa (lotus cars and ferrari 312t)

simraceway (lotus 88b and mclaren cars

different manufacturers racing each other

forza (mclaren m23, ferrari 312t2, lotus e21)

Two Current F1 cars cannot be in the same game unless there is licensing. Most of those in the video were not current F1 cars, which are exempt from the licensing and must be done by individual manufacturers.

I want back Top Gear too! Stop Stupid talk about this thread damnit!
What's your problem?
You want people to stop posting in this hread?

Ontopic:
I don't miss the Top Gear track, it was fun once in a while but ....meh...

As for F1, I didn't really used them in GT5 maybe the seasonal once.

Have to admit I'm disappointed the Top Gear Test track is missing, but lets be honest PD didn't make very good use of the license in GT5. If they brought it back, then we need the reasonably priced cars, ghost replays of the Stig and the fastest drivers in each car.

I don't think that's too much to ask.

As for the F1 cars, I couldn't care less tbh. But I do understand that plenty of other people would like them included. I'm much happier driving expensive exotica around than race cars for the most part.

so are Senna's cars incompatible with Ferrari f2007 and f10? no

I didn't realize until yesterday that this track was missing. I kind of liked the Top Gear Test Track not because of the show or anything, but because of the size and nature of the track. I liked a track marked out partly with cones. PD cold just makes its own track using similar characteristics. They could see if a local airstrip would let them scan their airfield and then PD could create its own track on it digitally. The most awesome idea would be if they would put a track creator on the airstrip so we could put the lines and cones wherever we want. It's flat so it would be easy enough to design.

because it sucks. plain and simple.
Well. There is that, but that wasn't the actual reason.

If anyone is missing this track, Silverstone Stowe inner circuit is a similar sort of thing and a decent replacement.

I have driven the track IRL, and it's pretty spot on.

As far as I'm aware and correct me if I'm wrong, but no one company can get an exclusive license with Top Gear. From what I've heard the BBC is required, by law, to be completely impartial, so they cannot hand out exclusivities.

That is true, but there is a difference between the BBC corporation and the BBC's commercial arm "BBC Worldwide". I believe JC and the producer own certain rights to the Top Gear stuff (e.g. The Stig etc.) and it's likely they can pull off deals like this.

It may not mean exclusivity though, anybody might be able to use it if they buy in. Problem may be the price, PD might have been willing to take the hit for 5, but not for 6...

I wish it were still there, less tracks is never a good thing even if it's one I didn't particularly enjoy. The track was hampered by PD's over the top fastidiousness when it came to staying inside the lines so they lined much of the track with cones and if you stepped out of line just a little bit the lap time wouldn't count. It became more frustrating than fun. If they'd opened the track up more and made the whole runway driveable it would have been an awesome place to have fun with.

Definitely not glad it's gone, it was a good idea that should have been expanded on, not dropped altogether.
