Will all convertibles offer top down racing?

Sorry if this has been covered before (I did a few searches but couldn't see anything).

Now that we have seen the amazing in car animated driver in the E3 Cobra demo I'm wondering if all convertibles in GT4 will be driveable with their tops down?

I suspect this won't be the case and that we'll only be able to drive cars that are already shown with their tops down in the car selection menu..... eg. Cobra, SL55 AMG and 350Z Droptop are all shown with their tops down.

The problem is there are lots more convertibles in the game that aren't shown with their lids off....... I suspect we won't be seeing an animated driver in such cars as the S2000, Corvette conv, Cappuccino (hardtop roof), Eclipse Spyder or RUF 3400s.

This would be a real shame (having owned a Cappuccino and now an S2000 I'd like to see them both with tops down!!!) if PD skimp on some of the other convertibles in the game. Ideally it would be great if you could choose whether to race with tops up OR down!..... but I think thats just wishful thinking!

I think it would be a waste of PD's time and effort of creating a realistic driver for these convertible cars and not make the driver visible in them.

I do believe if not all convertible cars will have their roofs off including the minature Diahatsu Copen. I'd love to see the driver all squashed up in there

I do suppose you should be able to choose between top down or up. - Don't trust me I know nothing about GT4 compared to most people.

Ditto for the Cappuccino which is the same size as the Copen!!

I agree that it would be a waste of effort for PD to create a realistic driver and then not give the option for all convertibles to be driven top down!

I also wonder if the interiors of each of the top down motors will be properly modeled...... so far the only two cars that I've seen with the animated driver looked like the real thing (Cobra and 350Z Roadster) so hopefully every car will have accurate dash and steering wheel!

Is the Honda Beat a convertable too?

I think from PD's photoshoots they took numerous photos of the interiors of cars with accurate seats, pedals, guages, gear knobs and many other little things. I would presume so that the dashes would be recreated with the usual astonishing amount of detail that can be produced from the now limiting technology of the PS2.

There was that Suzuki, I can't remember its name in GTConcept that you could see the driver. I can't remeber if you can see the drivers arms or anything. I doubt the animations if visible would come close to anything that we have seen lately in GT4:P and GT4 videos.

It is too, I'm going to be really laughing later on this year!

Wasn't there another thread where someone said that these 3d drivers will be in every car? Someone was complaining they'd rather have 3d rims than a 3d driver.

That rings a bell but I can't see the point really!..... a dark shape of a driver is fine for me in a hardtop car!

Hmmm, do I want to go faster or have a pretty replay? Let me think...

Exactly!...... if the option was available I'd expect PD to keep things realistic giving top down cars a slight drop in performance. I'd like the choice...... driving for best performance = top up, driving for fun (or more challenge if perf was reduced slightly) = top down!

I think there will be an option only because they did say like what only a max of 2-3 cars could be top down at one time.. plus they might have diffrent versions of one car, one with hard top and another with top down always... just like the Nissan 350Z, theres the regular one and a convetible one, like the beatle etc...

The limit to 2 open top cars at once was in GT4:P, I've not sen or heared anything aobut that being so in GT4.

I have seen a couple of screen shots where the roof is down, so i suppose the answer would be yes.

If some cars have the roof up it is most likely that they are going for a greater level of realism, being some convertables can't race unless they have a protective roll bar, which in some vehicles cases is to have the roof up.. or somthing like that

:)

Yep, PD didn't wan't players to experience too much slowdown which at that stage in development thoes cars were creating.

GT4:P had at least one example of a car being top down and being top up in the game - one of the Mercedes Benz convertible high end cars.

How did it handle? Any difference between the two?

Well in GTConcept the Mercedes car was shown as top-down in the car select window and as far as I could see the interior was modelled even though when you get ingame the top is up. Hopefully seeing as the Cobra shown in the E3 had a fully animated interior so its only wise for them to do that treatment for every convertible model. Whether or not you will be able to choose top-up or top-down is beyond me as the Cobra does have a canvas roof well it did in GT3. Does the real Cobra have the option of a roof because most of the ones I've seen have no sign of any canvas roofs.

Sorry, I missed typed that. I meant that in the car selection screen, it was top down - in the race, it was top up.

Don't forget the 350Z roadster was top down in race in GT4:P. It looks like they skimped in areas of modeling to compensate for modeling the driver.

As for the real deal, you can get it in a couple different options that I know of. You can get a canvas top like what's available in GT3 or you can get a tonneau cover (resembling a sheet covering the passenger compartment). I'm assuming that a hardtop is available, but I don't know for certain - and if it is available, it would probably look a lot like a Miata hardtop.

No need for protective rollover Bars in GT4 as you cant flip the cars.

Well they'll proably have a race championship for convertibles, because didnt GT2 have something liek that but the cars were top up instead of down, anyways I dont think we'll see all 6 cars with there top downs in my opinion... with the rendering of all the drivers and what not.. and Yea in GT3 in the car selection screen I belive they did have Convertible cars (top down) and in the race they were obviously top up but as far as I could tell the interiors were modeled nicely...

I played GT4 P yesterday to see the detail and the animations of the driver. I took the Nissan Z Roadster and chose Citti Di Ari, i then raced two laps on it, i watched the 2 lap replay and found a spot in the replay where i could zoom in the camera to see all the interior and driver of the car, then i raced the track again and i stopped at the spot where i could see the full interior of the car, i started changing gears, going back and forth on that spot, i was amazed when i saw the replay...

The Gear box when the driver changed the gears it actually moved realisticly from speed 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and reverse, i never saw that in any game, plus the wheel when the driver spinned it, it span with the movement of the arms and not after, like in PGR2, where the wheel only span 45degrees maximum, and the gear box didn't even move. Now i believe the video of the cobra, and i know that the same animations as shown in the video will be present in the last build of the game.:O

Man I wish I had GT4:P  oh well thanks for getting my hopes up Live... hopes in a good way that is lol.. man I really really can't wait...

OMG you've made my 9 day wait for GT4:P so much longer, damm you :banghead:

So there are only a few convertibles available to a track? Then what that "Roadster and Spider" race deal? Are those races doing to offer as few cars as Special Stage Route 5 Wet? I would think that if you can have six F1 cars race around, then 6 convertibles would be easy or slightly hard. And what about those cars like in H Production or something from the SCCA? Some of the cars I've seen in Valvoline Runoffs competition have absoutely no roof of the car. Instead, there is a small windshield, and the roof of the car is mostly rollcage. Will there be few of these cars as well? Think of the Tuscan Challenge cars.

^^^^

Yes, i'm afraid that the maximum amount of convertibles that will be allowed to race simultaneously will be 3 to 4, although prologue only allows 2 convertibles to race at a time. I hope that PD can fix this and make it 6 convertibles:(

Well anyway i just imagine now cruising on a Cobra at Costa De Amaffi, with a fully animated driver and fully 3D crowds, with the beautiful backgrounds and then watching the replay:O It would look better than ay X-Box game:O :banghead:

I can't wait much longer for this freaking game to come out!!:banghead:
