Will GT Ever Adopt Real World Penalies For Races?

At the moment the penalty system badly needs to be updated.

I would like to see some form of real world penalties being adopted. Such as, corner cutting, do it once the game records a black flag, do it again you get a big red warning flash up, do it again and you are made to have drive through penalty. Except last lap where you get say 10sec deducted from your time.

Collisions are a hard one though. I get tired of getting hit by a crashed car (not my fault) yet cop a penalty. It was suggested to me that perhaps introduce real damage in the game that causes people to pit and *pay* to have their car fixed and this would cause people to be a lot more careful.

Another useful idea would be able to review a race from inside a lobby so that everyone could adjudicate on "racing incidents" and then be able to kick repeat offenders. Perhaps it would be that the room host would be able to replay the race and then this would then watchable on other members screens. Perhaps, even go so far as introduce protest system as well.

Obviously these are just some ideas but I do believe are well worth exploring further.

In Pro and Expert mode, or at least a toggle option for the others. This is not a new question, but thanks for asking it! :)

PD needs to include the option to enable/disable corner cutting penalties & collision penalties independently in all game modes, as well as the option to choose penalty type (time penalty, drive-through). PD also needs to include the option to enable mechanical damage, fuel/tire wear, and start type (standing start, standing start with grid check, rolling start) in all game modes.

It makes no sense to have those options online and not have them offline.
I enjoyed setting up arcade & custom one-make races in GT5, in GT6 custom one-make races got removed and none of the options above are available in arcade mode, which ruined offline racing for me.

Great idea but a black flag is normally PIT NOW OR YOU WILL BE DISQUALIFIED or YOU ARE DISQUALIFIED, GET OFF THE TRACK, so it would be the last thing you see, not the first.

In iRacing they have in room replays. Works great.

I am very pleased with all the positive responses. Because this has not generated very much discussion previously I was starting to think I was alone in wanting this at all. It's great to see that there are several like minded people out there.

Let's keep bumping this up the list and get a few more likes added and just maybe get an answer from Kaz.

Stop giving bad ideas to PDI!

In Formula 1 or NASCAR, you can cut a corner as long as you don't gain position, no penalty or flag.
Not 100% on F1 but it used to be like that. If you do gain position, you only get black flagged if you don't give it back within (1 lap? 1mn?) and so be it if more drivers happen to pass you in the process.
In NASCAR, you can cut EVERY turn except at Daytona and Talladega, where above rules apply.

I am quite annoyed when I get a lap invalidated (and the next one) for slightly cutting at parts where you can see EVERY IA car doing it, as well as real life racers. When you do it your time is invalidated or you get disqualified :odd: (looking at you PDI, fail @Eau Rouge on GTAcademy).

The collision system is terrible and should be removed or improved as well. Temporarily ghosting cars works better IMHO, but I don't think you can have one without the other in GT6. It's not realistic, but is still better than having your car both ghosted AND slowed down because of the penalty (even LESS realistic).

PS: "cutting turns" includes cutting partially or completely a chicane, getting below the apron...

They need to sort out the track boundaries before working on a penalty system. Each and every track needs consistent across the board track boundaries and a clearly defined definition of what is "on track" and what is not. The GTP rules work and would be good to adopt game wide. Two wheels on the track at all times, you just need to define where the edge of the track is. The track edge could be the curbs, the tarmac, or the white line at the edge of the tarmac. Doesn't really matter so much which one it is, so long as it's consistent track to track.

Yes! Two wheels on the track (inside the white lines) at all times. Absolutely agree.

But then, rather than instantly penalise someone, allow 2-3 incursions before a drive through or time penalty so as not to disadvantage an "honest" mistake.

We need to be able to punish the cheats and the less than ethical drivers not just disadvantage the ones that make the occasional slip up.

Just ask me how many races I have lost at Daytona Road course on the last lap when I have been pinged at the last "bus stop" chicane? :-(

It would be even better if it was "tunable" by the host. The host could allow 1,2 or whatever number of "mistakes" but the host could also define how big those misakes will be and where. For example, someone might be able to go completely off the course into the barrier on the outside of the track with no time penalty but cutting the inside of a corner more than "x" feet will still result in a penalty. 2 exceptions for less than "x" feet. That way you can avoid people taking advantage of it by cutting chicances once or twice in a race completely and on purpose.

This happens in the real world where some drivers will save up their chances for a last lap dive. Hence why we need to be able to protest and have a race review afterwards otherwise some would abuse the rule.
