Will GT4 freeze if I take out the disk?

I searched but it didn't come up with anything usefull. I'm currently A-Specing one of the 24h races & I want to do something else on GT4, but I don't want to quit the race. I only have 1 copy of GT4, so, will GT4 freeze if I take out the disk to put it in my other PS2, then if I put it back in later, will it work from where I paused it?

I think the only time you need to have the disc in is when the loader comes up between different screens.

I know from having done it that you can still drive with the disc out (with or without AI on track), and play replays with the disc out. I've had no freezing or loss of data. The only thing that doesnt work is the music.

Yep. Infact, if you forget to put the disc back in at the end of a replay/race the only thing that will happen is that you'll get the red "clock" spinning instead of the white one. That's all :)

MK1
The red clock usually leads to the game freezing though. Anyway thanks!

That depends on the PS2. It means one of 2 things.
  1. Your laser is going bad or IS bad
  2. The disc is not in the drive.

So if you know your laser is good(like in a newer PS2) then the disc must be out. Pop the disc back in and it will go back to the white clock in about 10 seconds or so.

On a side note, when you all press the reset button when GT4 is loaded, does it just turn off your PS2 as well? Mine just shuts down. It's not a big deal, but it doesn't do that with any other game.

Mine does that, and at first, I thought it was the Playstation, but, it has done it on every one I have played GT4 on.

It could have to do with GT4 using up most of the alloted PS2 ram while playing, so the system can't reset, just shut down.

Basically, the game will resume the same as it was before when you put the disk back in.

I got a new slimline PS2 after my other one kept getting laser problems so I to it in for repair one last time & now don't use it much as my new one because it's getting to expensive to repair. My older one is a block PS2 nearly 3 years old. I must say it's lasted a long time & it still works!

Well, I advise you not to take the disc out.

You never know what may happen, maybe it'll get stuck someday or corrupt your data but if I were you? Don't play with it 👍

Another question is, if I save GT4 data to the memory card I took out of the PS2 I'm using for the race & save GT4 data to it from my other PS2, what will happen?

I'm pretty sure it will overwrite the file, if you're playing on two separate ones at least. I'm not so sure on the question, but that's what I think you mean.

I've racing the Tokyo enduro now, so when it finishes & saves, I lose the prize car & cash from the Tokyo race & just get the stuff from the Le Mans?

yes. It will overwrite your data.

If, after doing the tokyo enduro, you put the disc and mem card back in the ps2 doing your lemans race, it will say something like
"Save File State Changed. Save Anyways?"

The skinny of it is, you can't do both things at once. Finish the Le Mans race and save yourself from doing the tokyo race twice.

Well, I am guilty as hell...:dunce: I tripped over my controller cord and yanked the PS off the desk here at the motel and it flopped onto the floor from about 3' up. Everything seems to be fine EXCEPT when I try to enter a country to buy cars or upgrade existing cars, it just comes up with a blank screen and the arrow stays where it was prior to hitting the button. I have three questions:

1) Is the playstation ruined?

2) Did I lose my game?

3) Can this situation be fixed?

This was the closest thread I could find on this matter.

Make a new thread, that will help you more. Did you actually get the disk out when you dropped the ps2? and if not do that and blow on it and in the ps2.. might just help.

Uh...no. Searching and posting in a similar thread is almost always a good choice.

That's odd. Usually, DRE errors come up as red discs on loading screens.

1) Not if it still plays other games.

2) If you mean your savegame, I doubt it. Try your memory card on another PS2 and/or copy of GT4.

3) It depends on the severity of the damage to the disc. You may be able to fix it with something like the DiscDoctor, or you may need to get a new copy of GT4.
