Will Shift2 affect (badly) your driving on GT?

Well... Shift 2 is currently very cheap and it has three things that I really like and that GT5 does not have:

- M3 E30;
- Bathurst;
- Engine Swaps.

I'm thinking about buying the game, but I'm concerned that it might affect my GT5 driving. I am online almost everyday 1 hour playing with a couple of guys and I really want to keep on doing that, but Shift 2 ... HAS A GODDAMN M3 E30!

Did anyone recently buy Shift 2 and saw its driving on gt5 badly affected?

(I recently bought Dirt 3 and it didnt affect a single bit... but the tracks are obviously not the same..)

In all honesty. Going from gt5 to shift 2, you will be pulling your hair out trying to get used to the physics of the driving.

If you really want to get the game tho I would suggest you put down gt5 for a while and purely play shift 2.

I would not recommend switching between the two. Your going to have a very hard time adjusting.

Depends on you really.

On my experience, it only took me about 5 minutes on switching the way of my drive from GT5 and Shift 2 and i get use to it after that.

I don't know about you though, but it doen'st hurt to try, right? :)

Thanks!

I'll probably try and play shift 1 for like 15 minutes and see how I'm at, then i'll go back to GT5. If I have a difficult time... well... shift happens! :)

Is the driving model from Shift 1 any similar to that of Shift 2?

I actually had tons of fun playing Shift 1, unlike GT5 where I have tons of fun online but end up all focused and serious.. lol

(actually, it hurts like 30 euros)

I have played both shift1 and 2 and the driving model was a lot More easy in shift one. Its alot harder to control the car in shift 2 ( in a frustrating way). Unless you start tuning the crap out of it.

No, it will not permanently affect your driving. As a matter of fact, I switch between various racing sims and games on various platforms, and it's not a problem. Just accept that each game has a different style, that's all.

It will affect your GT5 driving yes. You'll find GT5 WAY easier after you play Shift 2.

I'm a lot faster in GT5 now that I play S2U and I have no trouble going back and forth although I'm not playing GT5 that much at the time because, as you might have read around here, GT5 is too sterile.

It shouldn't. If you still play GT5 regularly, I'm sure you won't just 'forget' how to drive it all of a sudden. If you put GT5 down for a while to play Shift 2, then yes it may take a bit of getting used to again when going back, but as RomKnight said, GT5 will feel much easier to control.

Depends if you are using wheel or pad too, as on the pad Shift 2 doesn't give you ideal lock all the time when steering, so is 'twitchy' and the controls can take time to get to your liking.

Im constanly switching between the two and i have no problems. Youll find shift physics frustrating at some points, but once you get used to it, no problem. After shift it takes me like 1 lap to get back to pace in gt5, after gt5 its 5 or so in shift though.

True, true... lol

I stopped playing GT5 for months after I bought Shift 2 and went back to GT5 without any problems. I said this many times already, I know.

I think its just difficult to adapt to a game but once you do its like riding a bicycle... You'll never forget how its done :)

100% agree with Rommie here. I actually think Shift 2 made me a better driver and tuner than GT5 ever did. The only negative effect Shift 2 will have on GT5 for you is that you ll get bored out of your mind from driving GT5 after Shift 2 clicked with you, if it does.

Thank you all for the replies. I think i'm gonna get Shift 2 then....

As a matter of fact, i'm quite bored with GT5, I only play it online or do time trials.. i haven't played it in single player for quite some time now :S

100% agree. In fact it took me 20 minutes to find my copy of GT this morning so I could collect the x2010 gift ticket.

I then took a ferrari for a quick spin, but quit after half a lap, driving in GT just doesn't do it for me anymore. Here's hoping they completely re-write the AI for spec II <fat chance>

I go back and forth between the two and I think it actually helped my driving in GT5 because I have to be so touchy with the controls in Shift 2. It makes me even more steady in GT5.

@ serious: The AI has indeed been tweaked for GT5 2.0 - see spec sheet:

https://www.gtplanet.net/gt5-spec-2...ors-replay-controls-new-cars-new-tracks-more/

But that wont change the way too sterile and lifeless driving. The whole immersion and the resulting adrenaline is where Shift 2 shines and GT5 just cant hold up in that regard, at all. The tracks are too smooth (except Nordschleife and La Sarthe), the camera is too steady, the sound is a weak joke in comparison... We' ll see tomoro but I doubt GT5 (or 6) will ever catch up in that regard.

I concur. S2U is one of the hardest racing games since F-Zero GX. It will really teach you how to be careful.

I agree.

And Shift 2 on PC is another step better. With the community patch fixing a lot of tuning bugs etc, no wheel lag and better visuals (plus the DLC 3 cars :) ), I just keep going back because there's just nothing out that beats the in-cockpit experience :)

And to add to how good Shift2 is racing wise, I remembered I did not have the gt-r trophy (do a lap time under 7:29:03).

3 attempts later and a7:27.xx was done... after all this time and i didn't even use the line

PS: BTW, doing nords in the MP4-12C event HELPS as it helps doing AT NIGHT :P (Shift2 obviously)

Try the Radical at night around Nords during 30m... then rephrase that sentence :P
