And then just have a seperate campaign like a usual gt game or will sport still be the main esports focus of gt while 7 is mostly for solo/fun play? Any news indicating either way?

I don't follow the premise of the question.

GT Sport isn't continuing. It's being replaced by GT7. There will be a short period where both games exist at the same time, but it's pretty likely that Sport will be shut down by September 2022.

GT7 will have a traditional Gran Turismo campaign/single player "GT" mode in addition to an online/multiplayer "Sport" mode.

Nobody can answer what "Sport mode" in GT7 will look like, but it's pretty likely we'll see scheduled races (Daily Races) and the full esports-type Online Championship (whether the FIA association continues or not).

Here's our guide to everything currently known about GT7:

Sport is going to be phased out. Especially seeing as there is no PS5 version of it. GT7 will be both a traditional GT game and the home of their world class esports brand.

I can see where confusion might come from given there is a racing series star ring in Sport a month before GT7 comes out.

Pretty much to put it simply I didn’t know if gt7 was going to be used as on online esports type of game in the same way as gt sport but you have both clearer that up for me cheers.

I don't know if Sport Mode will come back in the same capacity considering that the FIA have seemingly parted company with PD. I'm pretty sure that the online championships will remain but I don't know about Daily Races or the ranking system.

I really hope we don’t lose any kind of ranking when transitioning away from sport, online ranked modes are some
Of the best ways to get consistent value out of a title over the years.

Probably the biggest factor will be those of us on the PS4. I’m guessing we’d have to have the space for GT Sport and GT7. If GT Sport has to be deleted to make room, PS4 users would have to say good-bye to that game. Maybe both games will have separate Sport Modes.

I’ll only be playing GT7 on my base PS4. ACC, AC, PC2, GTAV and Art of Rally are the main games I play. 527.4 GB left on my PS4. I take it GT7 will require more space on the PS4, than GTS.

It would be funny as if they do a complete ranking and driver stats reset.

People complain about having to start single player all over again, but there's at least some understandable design logic behind that. Resetting the rating stats used to match people of similar speed and driving safety would be absolutely bonkers. That first week will be a nightmare online already, it really doesn't need everyone starting out at the bottom again.
