I am planning to upgrade Windows XP. I am not going to install a new version of Windows, just upgrade the current version. I'm doing this so that I can delete some rubbish programs and my machine can work a bit faster because that's what happened last time.

When I upgraded the Windows and linked Microsoft Outlook Express 6 to Gmail and clicked on send/receive all, it downloaded 3000 messages in my inbox whereas before I upgraded Windows, it showed 30 messages in the outlook express 6 inbox. On Gmail online inbox, it is showing about 30 emails.

Please can you tell me a way that when I click on send/receive all after upgrading the windows it shows 30 emails in the inbox (as that's the number of emails in Gmail online inbox), otherwise I will have to delete 2970 emails every time I upgrade windows.

Thank you for any help 👍 :)

Well first off, I would suggest using Windows Live Mail or Mozilla Thunderbird instead of Outlook Express.

As for all the messages, that's a bit strange. Could they be from subfolders in your gmail box?

OK, thank you for your help, I've re-installed Windows and downloaded Thunderbird and just the emails that were in the online inbox have come back. And there were no emails in any sub folder.

Problem solved 👍 ;)
