I've been riding my bike down hills in the snow alot the past few days and holy s*** is it fun. I've got 2.4" wide knobbly tires on 26" wheels, they get pretty good traction. It just feels so loose and out of control. I highly recommend it to anyone with a mountain bike with good tires. My bike has a front shock but it's frozen, as well as the derailers and the front brake. I think I'm gonna take an old tire and put little screws through it and see how that works.

i've done this two or three years ago and it was a blast. there isn't much snow at the moment, but i expect our little 900m mountain to get some decent snow in january. so after my bike was in horrible condition throughout this summer, i'm repairing it right now in order to do some freeriding in the snow again. the whole drive was severly damaged. bearing of the cranks, all the transmission etc. result of five years of hard riding without any maintainance. ;)
its a pain to repair everything yourself however, thanks to a million different standards. got me some nice new parts now though. i've only got a hardtail, but its already on downhill wheels with 2.3 tyres and a raceface evolve dh crank is now going to join it. i just hope i get everything installed right. :D

Sounds like awesome fun, too bad we get no snow here in Australia, except in the mountains.

on top of the roughly 800 meter feldberg mountain...
had to watch out for the hundreds of sled riders on the uphill. on the downhill i took some quiet trails, hadn't any control over the front wheel at times, fell a lot but always softly. ;)
a lot of fun, nevertheless. :D
