I have seen some nice dedicated cockpits, however I also enjoy other games. How would one wire a dedicated cockpit and also be able to play other games of the same console without unplugging wires every time I want to switch?

What wires you would need to unplug? My wheel's usb is plugged constantly to PS3 unless i am stupid enough to try forza :)

Without more details we won't be able to help very much, but how about buying a powered USB hub?

I have the same issue. I play Nascar09 a lot and then sometimes I play Modern Warfare 2. I either just unplug the usb cord from my PS3 or just hit the PS button and change the controller to #1 instead of the wheel.

Wheel does not have to plugged to usb 1 which i quess would make it controller 1. I do not even turn my wheel powered if i play something elese. Starting PS3 with controller makes it automaticly controller 1.

Actually my wheel is plugged into the second usb port and starting the PS3 with the controller doesn't make it the #1 controller, at least with my PS3 it doesn't. If my wheel is plugged in, I always have to hit the PS button when I start MW2 and change the controller to #1.

I am thinking of the racing seats with a monitor right in front. One monitor for the racing set up and one for general tv viewing and other gaming. Dragging the cockpit out for gaming is a pain, and I am considering a full build for a dedicated full on cockpit. The other concern is switching between Xbox and PS3, steering wheels would be a big concern. I find myself gaming less because of the inconvenience of getting the wheel out and I don't like that.

Yes, I know about the Fanatec 911 Turbo S, which is $350. I was one of the lucky people to get a g27 from Best Buy for $150 and I also have the Microsoft wheel. Also, I have a Pyramat rocker seat with sub and speakers on the top which I would like to use as the seat. Locked in seat, switchable wheels and locked in screen, all from the same consoles which connect to a main screen. This build is months away but it would be best to start planning now.

As mentioned the Fanatec Turbo S is really what you are after. No swapping and yes saves so much time but cant fault you for getting a G27 at that price. Also however one of the benifits the Turbo S could of given you is the "wireless adapter" for it. This way both for X360 and PS3 you wont have any need for USB cable. The only cable is between the wheel and pedals.

I will be using dual wheels on my own build which I will cover how I implement them later, so may give you ideas.
Basically you want each wheel and pedals on easily removable platforms. Then have a design that allows those platforms quickly remove/attach.

If your cockpit is going to have its own audio/chair then you only have audio/video leads from the console and power supply. The PS3/X360 can stay with your TV. You could even consider a switchbox between the consoles for HDMI/Component and with possibly a wireless option (video sender) a bit like wireless headphones giving you really very few cables to work with mainly only being power.

Thanks Latte, when can I hope to see pics of your build?

I need to start building it soon, still got more metal parts to arrive yet.
Cant say but it is likely this build will take several weeks of on/off working at it when I get time.
