226MPH FOR KOENIGSEGG

Earlier this month Koenigsegg conducted the first high-speed tests of their car - the CC - at the Nardo/Prototipo high-speed track.

The speeds weren't recorded officially as Koenigsegg just rented the 12km long track exclusively for their own use as a test day. A full medical team was on hand just in case!

Test Loris Bicocchi conducted the first shakedowns of the car leading up to a high speed run. Rain curtailed the tests but just before that Bicocchi hit 365 km/h per hour according to company measurements. That's 226mph!

Koenigsegg say that he wasn't pushing the car as hard as it will go and they're now confident that the car will be able to exceed that next time out.

Christian von Koenigsegg commented "This day was a very important milestone for the CC. It has shown us what it really can do and that it truly is a Supercar. The car performed very well at these high-speeds and was able to maintain cool in oils and water over a long period. We will keep on pushing the borders and within short we feel confident that we officially will be the fastest production car in the world."

The Mclaren F1 did over 231mph.

But Bugatti are working on the Veyron, which should do 252mph (406kph). It has 1001hp, and costs £700000 (about $1050000 US).

i thought the murcielago's topped out at 202-3mph.

i believwe the bugatti veyron will be the fastest production car (as well as the highest priced) but until it comes out the CC (is the company German) mite possibly have top honors.

The Murcielago is drag and electronically limited to 205mph, just like the new GT-40 is drag limitied to 180mph.

The McLaren F1 LM set the record at 247ish not the 241 that everyone says.

I still find it remarkable how Jaguar got so much speed out the XJ220 when it has a turbocharged V-6. 219.2mph

Swedish Supercar Beats McLaren F1!?

"Swedish Supercar?" I hear you questioning....Well actually yes! The Koenigsegg CC is a brand new supercar from Sweden that is aiming to take the title of the fastest production car away from the McLaren F1!

The name of the car comes from Christian von Koenigsegg who is the creator of the whole project, and CC stands for competition coupe.

The CC is powered by an all-aluminium Formula 1 derived supercharged V8 engine that produces 650hp and 750Nm of torque. The sprint to 60mph should take only 3.2 seconds! And what's more important is that the CC's top speed will top 240 mph (385km/h)- enough to outgun the production version of the McLaren F1 and make it the fastest production car on earth!

Power is delivered to the rear wheels via a six speed gearbox that can either be operated through a wheel mounted paddleshift or a standard gearstick. Also, in true race car form, the car's suspension, brakes and aerodynamics can be adjusted from the drivers seat to meet changing driving conditions.

Finally, the expected price of the CC is $300,000 which might sound like a lot but we really think it is a bargain compared to McLaren F1's price.

What else can we say? We are really amazed that there are still people so passionate about cars that can succesfully carry out such a difficult and awesome project! The least we can do is include the Koenigsegg in our FantasyCars database as soon as possible so check back for that!

von Koenigsegg's a cool guy, too. Totally hairless (even the eyebrows), 6' 4" or so, wears smoking jackets & brocades...he's a modern Dr. Evil. Only the weird can create the truly cool stuff.

Mclaren is still bad ass 627hp and it can burn 700hp+ cars
