Works conversions are driving me nuts!

First off, I'm more of a stock car racing type, I don't really like to mess with upgrades and tuning and find it quite tedious to do so. However I feel like a little bit of tuning is all right by now as several patches should have fixed major issues.

Anyway, what's driving me nuts today is Works converting a Viper and a MX-5.

I seem no matter what I adjust, the gearing of the Viper (and to some extent the MX-5) is way off. I mean seriously off.

In the Viper, the first 3 gears are pretty useless, 4th is still rather short, 5th and 6th seem to be alright and it tops out about 300 km/h on the straight on the Nordschleife.

Have I overlooked something? Is this a bug or a feature? Is it the same with all the Works conversions?

I surpose it depends on what final drive and gear ratio setting you have.(I alway use advanced settings mode. Have you tryed putting one of T-12's tunes on it I'm sure there a works Viper tune on page 1 of his tuning section ?
As for the MX5 I shouldn't give my secrets away but I've set my ratios so I don't use 1st I set off in 2nd and then have 5 good gears and does 160mph flat out it's a 6 rating car though not a works.

so that is how your mx5 does not stick to the limiter like mine.

Yes, I also looked into the diff settings, and it was very helpful in making the little Mazda actually not spin the planet but getting off the spot ;)

Setting off in 2nd gear is something I usually do, just nail the throttle and off you go. That's cheating? I hope not.

I spaced out the gears as much as I could in the Viper, but 4th to 6th are about all I can use not matter what I do to the gears and/or the diff. Shame, I like the Viper in stock form. Ah well ;)

I'll post my Viper ratios later if you like but it's a 14 rate car not works its got mental torque so god knows what the works is like.

Thanks awfully. Yes, it does go like a bat out of hell.

Maybe it is intended to behave like it does? I wanted something bold for finishing those Works converted races and thought the Viper would be a good choice ;)

LP-640 comes to my mind. Nothing might be better.

Don't belived he asked "whats the best works car" unless my reading skills have dropped.

Here you go mate like I said this is off my 14 rate car not a works.

Final drive >5.44
1st>2.83=62mph
2nd>2.05=86mph
3rd>1.71=99mph
4th>1.33=125mph
5th>1.05=155mph
6th>0.83=185mph at 6000rpm (start of red line on 14 car) on the nurbugring on I normal circuit I'd use
6th>0.90=??????

Cheers! Basically I set all gears incl. final gear ratio to "speed" duplicating your settings, 6th gear is set at 0.76, but 0.83 should work, too. Depends on wings and other drag relevant settings I guess.

Top speed is a bit higher, ~ 195 mph, but then I don't like to run the Ring with much downforce.

All in all I think I drop the Viper again and the whole Works conversation thing. Too many good cars to enjoy. But, thanks again!

darkos was replying to the OP in the post directly above that, when he said the Viper was a good choice.

When I Works'd the Viper, I thought the same thing. It's crazy but it needs some adjustments.

Yes I realise that now my pain killers have warn off a bit sorry darkos (probably the only apology anyone will see off me) I've got neck ache again so more pain killers it is.

If you have any left, I wouldn't mind a handful mate ;)

All in all, the works Viper is not a horrible ride as such, the acceleration in 4th and 5th is silly but no wonder given the torque.

It's just that I like to tune, if and when I tune, my cars in the old-fashioned way: it's RWD so giving it a bit of positive (haha, should really try that for some fun handling!) camber on the rear should do the trick, fiddle a bit with caster settings, and not too much downforce as the Ring has got only two breakneck speed turns and the Viper won't float away on the straight ;)

It's just that stupid gearbox and rim size doesn't have any effect it seems.

There are still bugs in the advanced tuning screen (at least as of 1.02), the old one where settings get transferred over from the last car you tuned, and another that can affect the top of the gearbox. If you see something really really odd it can be worth selling the car, then buying it, then going to 'quick tune' and select 'default'. Seems to be about the only reliable way to kill it.

Yes, I started over with a brand new Viper, just to be on the safe side.

I know that's just my personal thing, but if I want some "madness" I can always jump in one of the reward cars, such as the DBR. And the stock Viper is surprisingly fun to me. So why bother? ;)
