Should they license real tires?

They should be contacting all of the major Japanese tyre manufactures for data, absolutely.
Japanese? Sure, they speak the same language and all, but why not contacting the major tyre manufacturers around the world while they're at it? Michelin, Pirelli, Dunlop, Goodyear etc etc...

I said that simply because it's easiest for them and you don't really need data from all manufacturers as long as you get a good range of tyres, just as Forza only deals with Pirelli.

It is baffling that after 15 years this is something PD still haven't considered.

They don't need to have real tires, and I feel that would just make things confusing. The Comfort, Sports and Racing breakdowns work well (though they should add "drag" tires as well). All they need to have is a real tire model to correspond to those generic tires, preferably from someone who makes real tires.

tl;dr, I voted no.

No, I don't think that would benefit the game. Manufacturers would not want to have their products being depicted worse than other manufacturer's tyres, that could cause trouble and unrealistic adjustments.

Aside from that, I think it would make the tyre choices too complicated and confusing. I like the simple, yet detailed way of GT5's car setups, so I wouldn't mind them carrying this over, maybe extracting it to other areas such as engine swaps instead.

Yes I think it would be a great addition to have real tires on the cars in the Gran Turismo series.

Tire widths and pressure would be useful.
From Tarmac to Rally there is no option to adjust pressures. I suppose PD do it automatically.

I think for gt legacy reasons, they should keep it no-brand but bring back superhard & soft, plus alot of things from gt4 I guess, tuning on gt4 was just generally more fun. Like Toronado said, if they implement drag more, fat Drag tires would be sweet on muscle cars. I suppose if they add more dirt & snow tyre options for varying weather and surfaces that would be sweet, kind of like Colin Mcrae Rally '05, such a good rally game. So no, brands would not suit the style and character of gt. I mean imagine people arguing weather the fk452, S/TZ01 and ZE912 were better tires. Ha!

I think they should also add a semi slick tire with a soft medium and hard compound and have sport tires still

I really think they should do this.

Real tires, with actual data from the the companies or tests. Give the tires there own stats (width, pressure, tread type) that we can see and have them effect PP.

Also I think this would go a long way towards making tires more realistic. I'd like to see which real life tire is similar to GT5s RS tires. (hint: none)

Tons of manufacturers for tires would really add another layer of depth to the Sim and in my book that's a good thing.
