I'm doing the 70's Legends event, 5 races. Win 1st 3, 2nd in 4th. Leading the 5th race, lap 4 I crash and damage the car but still leading. 5 lap, 2 corners from the finish, engine blows. I get disqualified. I'm still leading in points, so I was like ok whatever.

Exit out and I dont get credit for winning the event. Apparently, you get disqualifed from the entire event if your engine blows in a race. So I have redo all 5 races/entire event.

EDIT n/m this.....

That does sound like a harsh punishment for blowing your engine.

How do can you blow your engine? Was it due to the crash or are there other ways? Never happened to me yet.

ok nevermind, apparently it doesn't save and I can restart from the last race. I should have tried before turning off in shock/horror.

I guess it was damaged in the crash and it was at Rouen, so was near full throttle a lot of the lap.

LOL, I had a terrible smash up in the Bentley and had to hold off #2 car while stuck in 3rd gear for half the final lap at Miami the other day.

Piotrov - smashing really (really really) badly will eventually start taking damage off the engine damage cap, and running at high temp (eg high revs/low speed) for long (looong) periods of time will eventually kill the engine too.

Odd... I was purposely running my Enzo into the barriers on la sarthe at 230+ mph, and I've never heard or seen anything like that.

Does it at least slow the car down in the process before your engine blows?

I'm pretty sure it does (and drivetrain/transmission damage will gradually decrease the drivetrain rpm/torque) - the engine has an optimum oil temperature rating as well which I think also plays a role in this. I seem to remember seeing both of these effects while I was watching telemetry playing around with the golf mk1 on some unrelated stuff. But I haven't tested it in depth.

I should also mention that every collision does (or at least did in Shift 1 with full damage) gradually add an amount of lift (on the centre of pressure - not depending on location) proportionally after each impact too. And suspension damage that bends the struts/arms will also change tyre contact/heating appropriately. And punctures are context dependent on what you drive over :)

That's really interesting. Just wish it did not take lots of hits for all of this to be a major factor. But still good to know that it does impact the driving physics.

I've blown up more than a few engines. I also remember once on Nurburgring getting not more than half a mile from the start and having both my front wheels fall off. I chalked it up to drunk pit crews, which would go miles towards explaining why you can't pit in races.

I like that :P

I can just see SMS explaining it: "So yeah we had all the pit features ready to go and working really well, but the pit crew just kept turning up to work drunk, so we scrapped the idea for OH&S reasons..."

yea, I had a wheel go off at SPA once. Must have broke the suspension through Ea Rouge and then the wear and tear broke it off.

I was doing a online race at Nurburgring GP and the DS3 vibration was stuck on for a about a lap and a half. I assumed it was a flat spotted tire ala Kimi Raikkonen in 2005.

I havent noticed punctures from running over debris yet but it would be pretty good if the game had pits so you could pit and replace a punctured tyre.

Yet to blow an engine too....

I've never blown a tyre or an engine yet , i tried early on by doing a constant doughnut for 5mins and nothing --- no blowouts , or engine blow ups

I thought that as well. I never finsihed the Modern A invitational. When I first got the game I did not know what the heck Nurburgring was...seriously. So I got stomped plenty.

Then last week, I decided to get it done. I was second on that last long strait, when my 2 yr old was watching me play and grabbed the shifter on the DFGT. Well needless to say I felt bad for scared my girl by yelling "Nooooo!!!" when I blew an engine.

Also blew a tire on my Retro Skyline on Pergusa. I think I hit a chicane on my back wheel and then skid a bit out of the turn. Also did it on Road America while tuning a Modern GT500, and skidding around corners.

Gah...pitstops would have been awesome.

Same here. GT3 at Spa Starlight, 2nd lap went through Eau Rouge too agressively, jumped over the curb on the left up the hill and... watched my front tires rocket off, straight into the night at presumably double the speed of sound.

What a race, btw. Took me at least 20 tries to get to the podium. Or rather: To finish the 3 laps without getting rammed off or disq. I dunno the track too well and at night... Oh my! When I finally finished 3rd, the 2 AI cars in front of me both broke arvores time that is on my Nr.1 for that race in the speedwall! What the... Hard AI is hard! 👍

The blown engines are indeed from violent downshifting. You can reproduce it by flooring the throttle on a stright while downshifting from 5th to 2nd.
