After reading Vat_man's thoughts about Colin Mcrae 2, I wonder about any differences, Proc's con's that it has.

After discovering the GT3 has some serious cheating issues, I have started looking for a new game to focus on. My first games were Midnight club (awesome 2 player game, crappy single player) and Smugglers Run (Great sight seeing, crappy game play) . Picked up GT3 and have spent countless hours/days/weeks/months battling the AI.

Now I need something new. My search brought WRC to the forefront. However with hearsay on CM2 I was wondering if anyone could compare the PC version of CM2 to the PS2 version of WRC.

I'd appreciate any info.

Thanks

AO

Pro: CM2 let's you work with the cars more and the inflicted damages carry consequences (i.e. you might not have enough time to fix them). Whilst in WRC the damages are entirely fixed between the stages.

Con: CM2 requires you to do battle with windows!

If you're looking for a arcade rally game, and you like beautiful graphics and don't have problems with arcade controls, then you've gotta buy WRC.

If you're looking for a realistic rally game, with excelent controls and nice graphics, then you've gotta buy CM2.

Thanks for the input, I'm hoping to hold out until CM2 shows up for PS2. Rent them both and then decide. If I can hold out that long.

Kyle: I'm somewhat curious as to why you bothered posting. Is your ineptitutde so great that you must volunteer info no matter how useless it is? There must be some reason you opened you mouth.

Well, the first CMR game made me motion sick, so believe it or not, I actually haven't played CMR2!

Der Alta, have you taken a look at the WRC video I posted? I'm sure you could find some similar CMR2 videos that might help you make your decision. :)

I did download the WRC video. It looks great. I'm always skeptical of promo info though. Part of my job is marketing, and Dilbert is correct about Marketing types.

Hadn't thought to try and find CM2 promo info. Have to try that.

Tough about the motion sickness. I was never able to use the microfiche machines when I was in college. I'd spin through the articles, and almost immediately lose my lunch.

Thanks,
AO

Let the rally wars begin! Why? This is because V-Rally 3 looks real good and this looks like it could be one heck of a battle.

PS2.

CMR2 is in fact for the PSX and has been out for a couple of years - CMR3 will be for the PS2.

V-Rally 3 hasn't had real good reviews - astonishingly, the controls are apparently digital only.

If you're going to compare CMR2 and WRC, you'd probably be better comparing the PC version of CMR2, as technically they're more natural competitors. CMR2 with the graphics cranked up is surprising competitive, given its age.

the effort and detail put into cmr games, especially cmr3 beat gt3 by a mile. codemasters is obsessed and cmr3 will be incredible. cmr2 was. if you want a sim, pickup cmr2 or wait for cmr3. why not get both, if you can find cmr2 cheap. if you have a wheel it will be an amazing experience.

go checkout some of the videos released for cmr3. they are amazing.

CMR2 with a wheel on PC is pretty impressive. I am looking forward to CMR3 (Codemasters do kick pretty comprehensive arse), although I have a feeling that the next version of WRC is going to be pretty special - they seem to have taken heed lot of the criticism they copped and are working to address them, and given the direct link to the World Rally Championship and the Subaru team it could be impressive. WRC isn't a bad game - the driving model was pretty solid and visually it was pretty good - and the signs are promising for the next one.

thats good to hear. i didnt know how wrc was and thought it was like the other recent rally games. arcadey. glad to see theres going to be some more quality motorsports games. their partnership with subaru will be great, codemasters and ford, arrows and geoff crammond have definately benefited from their relationships.

Anyone heard about this new Arcade rally game from EA called Shox?

There's been some discussion of it - I think someone posted some shots of historic rally cars from it - stuff like the Peugeot 205, Lancia Delta, I think they were pretty early development shots - looked like good fun, in that Sega Rally style.

Too bad it won't be like the real thing. The comptition is going to race side by side with you and its gonna be like GT3 I'm :scared:.

Oh well - Colin McRae 3 is out early next month here. I'll hold off on it until next year, I think. TOCA Race Driver/V8 Supercars will keep more more than busy until GTA: Vice City comes through.
