WTH is Shingeno doing?: Where is Initial D Stage 5!?

I've never been interested in anime since being 12 (Yu-Gi-Oh and DBZ), and a couple months ago, I was talking to my anime-obssesed friend, and knowing that I was obssesed with cars, she introduced me to the show Initial D.
Since then, I've been hooked on Initial D (I've bought all the Funimation dubbed DVDs and a few OSTs online), the whole story of Takumi Fujiwara going from nowhere to a legend in a very original way drew me in deeper and deeper. It even encouraged me to buy the 86 in GT5, and it's become my 2nd favorite car (apart from the Veyron), along with many of the other vehicles driven in the show, letting me appreciate Japanese automobiles a lot more since I used to hate them all and prize the more superior American and European cars as the ultimate vehicles.
But now after finishing the fourth season, I have hit a roadblock - what next? It can't end there, the story is not even half done! After researching online, I found out the last time the creator, Shuichi Shingeno, worked on Initial D or was even on the planet was 2009 (last volume of the comic released). And the show - 2007! Two-thousand-f:censored:in'-SEVEN!? There's not a website or e-mail to even reach him! I would learn Japanese just to be able to talk to him and ask him what happened. He can't just let the best anime just shrivel up and die half way done. Who else feels the same?

In the meantime, I guess I'll be driving the 86 on the 'Ring and start watching Samurai Champloo.

Well, I think the manga is coming to an end... and I think when it ends, that's when Stage 5 will be released.

But you could try checking out some other racing anime such as Wangan Midnight and Capeta. 👍

Check out animeratio, all the episodes there in dubbed, including that dumb live action movie they did.

I know they do the animation once they finish the manga, but it's even been a while since the manga came out, that's what I'm puzzled about. It's like it stopped.

Oh , ID!! It's been many years since I watched it. Such a great series that introduced me to whole "Touge" scene and Eurobeat music (guilty pleasure). Shame that they still didn't release 5th stage.

If I were you I would sell the DVD's and download all the 4 seasons plus 2 Extra Stages (containing story of Deep Impact Blue mainly) and 2 (or maybe there were even 3? it's been few years since I watched them) Battle Stages from torrents.

Look especially for releases from "Live,Evil&Ideology" fansub group, tagged [L-E&IDE], they have by far the best subs and high picture quality.

I think the manga is still continued to be published. But for people outside of Japan, I think its harder for us to access it.

I think fan translated manga is not up to the latest available iaaue, but I may be wrong in this.

Flare i know just how you feel man i have been obsessed with this series. its good to know there are others as obsessed with it as i am i was begining to think i was the only one. for at least 5 years mabye even longer not really sure when i started watching it but i still got the tokyo pop versions of the dvds so i know its been a while.everytime i watch the series even still i get just as excited as i used to when i first started watching it. i srill think one of myfav parts is when tak blows a gasket when shingo bumps him in the race. dude just starts flying lol. on another note i really wish funimation would put the Japanese audio in 5.1 instead of stereo. all my life i can remember anime always had better quality sound in the sub versions.

Well, this is what I know. 1st, 2nd, and 4th Stage each cover 13 manga releases. After 4th stage, there have been 12 manga releases. So far, the manga is still ongoing (it has just been updated a couple of days ago). later this year, the 13th manga will be released. Hopefully by then, we'll have the first episode of 5th Stage next year. I highly doubt 5th Stage will not be produced, they already have voice actors for the rivals featured after 4th Stage (as seen in IDAS5 and IDAS6 AA). So get your hopes up.

on the subject of Initial D, why does Kyoko's (Kylie) FD RX-7 have a single turbine? A stock 13B-REW has a twin-turbo setup. What, did she removed on turbo and replaced the other with a bigger one??

People used to take the twins off of Supras and go single for top speed. Maybe thats what she was going for?

How does removing a turbo from a stock twin-turbo setup increase top speed? Won't that decrease the power?

Two smaller turbines make for better response.

A larger turbine has better flow at high rpm, giving more top end, at the expense of low-end response. A small one usually spools up faster but makes little power at the top... By putting two small ones together, or one small and one large, you spool up faster than a large turbo and make more power than a small one. But in the end, it still won't flow as much air as the single larger one... as demonstrated in the show in the RX7 uphill battle.

yes, i know that stuff about turbines. as turbos increase in size, so does the power gain and turbo lag. Twin turbo setups were made to minimize lag and maximize power & response. I think you missed my question. What I don't get is why Kyoko's FD had a single turbine, as opposed to the stock twin-turbo setup of the 13B-REW.

Remember, tall, blond and dour had trouble keeping up with her in the corners until he started modulating his throttle work more, later in the race. It was only when she had to come off the throttle over bumps that she lost boost and slowed down.

This is the same reason the Renault F1 engine is doing so well this season... the more gentle onset of power at low-rpm make it easier to control traction out of corners... Of course, those are naturally aspirated and don't come off boost...

On Kyoko's setup - modern aftermarket ball-bearing turbos are extremely responsive. When the FD was released, almost 20 years ago, turbo technology was quite a bit behind where it was in the early 2000s, and even in the 90s you could get an aftermarket turbo that blew away what Mazda included in the FD. At the time, it was just too expensive to use such turbos in a midrange production car. With a nice single turbo, you could increase power by quite a bit, but without losing any response.
