Yesterday I raced the A race, received a clean race bonus and finished in a higher position than I started, but ended up losing all my DR points. WTH?

You almost certainly got a sufficient number of SR downs to drop your SR down low enough to reset your DR...

... but without any information like video, or images, or even your PSNID it's totally impossible to say for sure.

How much DR did you start with? If you started 12th and finished 11th you would have lost DR. If you didn't have much DR to start with you could have gone back to DR 1.

Also this. Gaining positions is irrelevant - it's how many people you finish ahead of vs. how many finish ahead of you. Where you start plays no role.

From your profile ( https://www.kudosprime.com/gts/stats.php?profile=13999017 ) there are no drops in SR so I assume you've lost points through the results. The points are not the same every race, losing to lower rated players will hurt your score more than those higher. I guess you were in a lobby full of DR D. Also qualifying position/places gained doesn't change your score, it's all on final results.

I see, I'm still a little confused but it makes a some sense. Just trying really hard to improve my DR score, frustrating.

I don't have the exact formula but basically, it goes something like this:

At the end of every race your DR is adjusted depending on your finish position relative to the other racers. (Like said before, finish position is the only thing that counts. Not places gained, not racing clean, just your final position.) Every person who finishes behind you gives you a little bit of their DR. You give some of your DR to every person that finished in front of you. How much DR is exchanged depends on the difference between your and the other racers DR. If you lose to someone with a lower DR than you, your going to give them a lot of points. If you finish ahead of someone that has a lower DR than you, they'll only give you a small handful of points.

A rule of thumb is to try to finish at least halfway up the field. (P6 or better for Race A, P8 or better for Race B and P10 or higher for Race C). That's essentially the break even point for that race, although it will vary a bit depending on the actual DR of the racers involved.

Okay I see now, that makes a lot more sense. I was pissed when I did good just to lose DR points. My strategy was to qualify in last or near last, then as everyone is banging it out knocking each other or spinning off the track during the first few lap, hopefully I’ll pick up some positions.

So.... i have to be like the others and drive like mad and dirty, punting and ramming out of the way other drivers just to get to to front. I don't know if i can do that....

No, you have to be faster and be a better racer to get to the front.

Unless you like being in races like you describe. Because if you drive like that you'll eventually end up in lobbies where everybody's like that because SR is a thing, too. DR = Driver Rating based on your race results. SR = Sportsmanship Rating based on your racecraft. Matchmaking is done by SR first.

Hey, dude. I just looked at your Kudos Prime stats and when you race online, I would really focus on raising your SR rather than finishing well, until you raise your SR up to 99.

With the penalty system back to dishing out SR down arrows to dirty and reckless drivers again, SR 99 lobbies are starting to clean up again. Like I said, lobby matchmaking matches racers by their SR rating first, then looks at their DR, then their qualy time. Focus on racing clean and keep tabs on your SR. Once you hit 99, things should be cleaner for you. (Not always but it usually.) Starting from the back in a Race C is usually a pretty good way to avoid getting too mixed up with other people. And it'll give you the most SR points.

thanks for this tip, i am a bit clueless to the DR and SR things, is there a page that gives the breakdown and how these points are tallies and such?

what are those "Kudos Prime Stats" you mentioned above?

Kudos Prime is a website created by @Milouse It uses the GT API to access driver data that the game doesn't readily present to us. It operates close to realtime, meaning you can finish a race and pull up your page and see how much DR and SR you gained or lost. It also can see what the daily races will be several days before they actually rollover in the game. Poke around the site, there's lots of interesting things to see. It also accesses the Forza games, if you play those.

Your personal stat page is here:
