I have arguments. Specifically counters to the arguments that killed this idea before.
One of the reasons this was shot down before was the whole "GTPlanet is a site revolved around a game on the PlayStation platform". Because of that, PSN-IDs make sense. XBL Gamertags do not. With that logic, why do we allow for Skype, Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger, ICQ, and AIM? After all, those don't have anything to do with Gran Turismo or PlayStation. And in addition, a large portion of the active community here – the guys who visit and post regularly in non-GT subforums – aren't all that PlayStation centric.
Another reason this idea was shot down was the whole "then we should add Wii Friend Codes, PS2 usernames, Xfire, etc" thing. The problem with that is that the Wii's online is almost non-existent, and what's there is cumbersome. Having to enter a 16 digit friend code for each person for each game is downright retarded, not to mention there's few Wii owners here regardless. The PS2 online structure is extremely inconsistent with multiple usernames and no form of messenging. Xfire and the like aren't consistent and unified system-wide like Xbox Live as well. In comparison to all this, Gamertags are easy to add, everything is completely unified (so there's only one name to add, and that's it), plus there's a much higher demand for such a thing than PS2 usernames and the like. Because of this, Gamertags make sense to have a field for. For everything else mentioned? Not so much.
GTP is a great forum already, I just have an idea to make it better and please and satisfy more of the active community (including me). If you guys could reconsider your stance on this issue, that'd be great.
