I have a white wallpaper and the text under the icons in XP is white. It is extremely hard to read the icon text and I'm wondering how to change it.

No, I'm afraid there is no way to change it. From Annoyances.org...

Note: in all versions of Windows, Microsoft provides no way to change the color of the text under desktop icons, which can make it very difficult to read in some circumstances. In Windows XP, the text has a shadow underneath, but this only goes so far. To change the font, open Display Properties in Control Panel, choose the Appearance tab (then click Advanced in Windows XP only), and choose Icon from the Item menu.

thread returning from the grave.. :P

i came across this thread on a google search whilst trying to get the text shadow back.

i found out how eventually anyway..

go to Control Panel, then open System, and go to the Advanced tab. there you should see a section called Performance. If you click settings there, and press Custom, and change the 2nd to last check box, you can get rid of the shadow :)

there's a few other things there to play with too.

I've been in there before. I turned off all the graphical stuff, so it looks like 2000.

Yes, and they're all one minute apart.

I move my icons when I can't see the writing. :P

Stop Picking on me. I'm sick and tired of it. Whereever I go you post something against me. Just leave me alone. God.:P

So, Shannon, did returning to the W2K style fix the issue?
Yes, because when you set it to W2K style, it returns the good ol' colour background on the text. So in other words, no transparency and no drop shadow.
