How do you say it? being from Georgia I say "y'all", seems easier than saying you all. But now that I live in Maine all I hear is "you all". From time to time when I'm talking in class I'll get the occasional giggle because I say "y'all".

So how do y'all say it.:sly:

I don't use either, but I would use "you all".

I'm sure there are better words that come up when I need to use them.

Well what word(s), other than the ones given, could you use to group people. That would be as convenient as these two?

You guys? You? Guys?

I just don't really ever remember using either unless in a debate like this.

Well I guess those could work. I don't think they're as popular as y'all or you all, unless you were in New York.

You'ze guise.

You all come back now sound gay.

Y'all come back now for the winz.

It's neither. It's "Y'ins" for me. As in, "Y'ins get yo butt to the stoh, and gets me a plug of Bloodhound. Don'cha come back with that Red Juice, now. Y'here?"

I would say "Y'all". Its so much simpler to pronounce that "you all". See its so much more difficult.....and the short form makes it look more cool....

All-a-y'all
👍

Our version of English down here hasn't bastardised that phrase yet, but I say "y'all". But when I say it I'm only taking the piss, so I don't think that counts.

I laughed the hardest at it on The Simple Life with Paris and Nicole. I can't remember which season, but the one where they went down south. And the hick kid asked Paris and Nicole: "Y'all going back to y'all's house later?"

They laughed at him too... From memory, his name was 'Chops' and he made-out with Paris at one stage. But then again, who's been on TV and hasn't made-out with Paris?

I don't think I've ever heard anyone here say "Y'all" ever. Definitely, 'you all', although much more likely would be "Oi! You guys".

Same.

Not that I speak exceptional English, but I do tend to say "all of you". I'm not from the south so for me to say y'all would be out of place.

What's up with editing my poll? If you don't say y'all then you probably say you all, don't be a....

"Jullie allemaal" in my language. :sly:

Dutch? The Afrikaans is quite close: "Julle almal", though that doesn't actually sound correct to me for some reason. Generally I think they'd stick to "julle".

In English, I would rarely say "y'all" or "you all". I would say "all of you", or "everyone" or "everyone here", or, for less formal instances, "you lot" or "you guys". The latter is probably a result of watching too much Magnum, P.I... I still often say "hi guys"
In many cases wher you might say "y'all", I'd just say "you" or a product thereof, e.g. when you'd say "y'all gotta be kidding", I'd say "you must be joking" or "you're kidding".

English people will not say either. The phrase "you all" isn't even in our language.

Well, I make an effort to make sure I say "you all" but being from Kentucky Y'all comes out more than I would like when I am in a conversation.

By the way, if you come down I-71/I-75 into Kentucky from Cincinnati you will be greeted in good Kentucky tradition by the water tower at The Florence Mall.

Once upon a time it said Florence Mall, but it changed. The story according to Wiki:
Wiki
Originally the water tower advertised the up-and-coming Florence Mall, as part of an agreement by the mall developers who donated the land for the tower. However, because the mall was not built yet, the tower violated highway regulations, and the city was forced to change it within a short deadline. Rather than repaint the entire tower, they simply painted over one letter. The intent was to change it back when the mall was built, but residents liked the tower's new proclamation, so the city decided to leave it as it was.
