CTznOfTime submitted a new resource:

Yas Marina 5554 meters - Spot-on 1:1 scale replica, except for the last corners.

I will provide more information tonight as to how i was able to accurately reproduce this track down to the meter!

I am also planning to make another version to move the main "home" straight up to allow for the correct final corners.

I am so proud of this repro!

Thanks for checking it out.
Width may need to be updated as well, but if i make it wider,i might not be able to fit accurately some of the corners.

I will post some photos tonight.

Peace out!

After running a few laps, i think i will update this track later and reposition a few curbs in better spots.

Where i could fit items, i did all around the track:

DETAILED STEP BY STEP on how i created this track:

First: the Scale !

IF YOU WANT TO KNOW HOW TO PROPERLY SCALE YOUR OVERLAY MAPS, go here:
Refer to my post here on how to set your scale:
https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/thre...-scale-a-track-creation.335273/#post-11008786

Once i chose my scale, i overlay (import) the map into the app:
i-S8LkZHD-XL.png

i pinched it and moved it to have both the scales showing:
i-gZPLdjH-XL.png

Got to make it equal to my satisfaction,
i-VXvwfC8-XL.png

time to go on the next step:

Now, it doesn't seem i can properly fit the home straight where it should be:
i-WHnFrcv-XL.png

I couldn't put the main straight where it should be without affecting the corners and driving lines that are before and after it...

Due to the Track App limitation of a 600m straight, i had to reposition the start/finish line on the longest straightaway:
not such a bad compromise...
i-zH3w28T-XL.png

Now let's set the track width...
knowing there are a couple tight corners, i was afraid of making this track too wide, so i set it at the lucky number 13 meters wide!

i-Mkzv3GB-XL.png

Let's start drawing:
i-zH3w28T-XL.png

i-H352cRb-XL.png

"First corner":
i-mkrLt3Q-XL.png

Going too wide:
i-L77kmMx-XL.png

So i am going to decrease the corner radius (remove of the side decor):
i-sQbg2tK-XL.png

adjusting the straight to help shortning the corner:
i-BTqD9Nb-XL.png

looks like we will be able to clear it:
i-fQCjXpt-XL.png

keep in mind that you will have another corner coming up, so you might want/need to add it now, and readjust later properly:
i-fmhd7nB-XL.png

Actually this step should have come one step earlier because if you look at the previous shot, i would not be able to add the following corner due to the track-sides touching each other.

This is due to the wider track-side with each new sections added.

Having added the next section, i am still trying to make that first corner as close to the real thing as possible:
i-tL6jqMn-XL.png

you basically have to inch forward, going inch-by-inch, step-by-step, and repeat until you get perfect:
i-dpwTLzM-XL.png

still a long way to go, and as you can see, if you were to make it exactly like the real thing, the tool doesn't let you, your track side would be colliding and creating a parallel universe... Kaz thought about it and of course wouldn't let that happen.
i-bwLVd36-XL.png

Let's move on for now, and we can always come back, sometimes it is easier when you have more sections following, because each corner is not only being affected by what came before, but also what is coming up next (2 or even 3 steps ahead):
i-2kV85xc-XL.png

i-5WJLtmS-XL.png

zooming out to see our small little progress:
i-JLj8bhC-XL.png

I dont give up, i am giving it another try:
i-sbPVNv3-XL.png

i-Xp346Xx-XL.png

moving as many anchor as possible, (like a puzzle) to see which combination of positions will yield the closest results:
i-DHF6x36-XL.png

i-r45KxBJ-XL.png

a bit of improvement, but not fully yet, this wont be easy:
i-kPWc7rV-XL.png

I am moving on for the second time, i will come back to the first corner later:
i-cRkjNTM-XL.png

this section should be easy, but still i need to make sure it is perfect by zooming in and out as i add the sections:
i-Th93hvk-XL.png

(Except for the first corner,) Not bad so far:
i-kSwJ93j-XL.png

Another tight corner coming up... let's hope i can make it:
i-B7RvVbd-XL.png

Just like driving, you need to set yourself up PRIOR to the corner:
i-c2GvP37-XL.png

i-2WFDhHh-XL.png

i-Vcrz2JS-XL.png

it's not gonna be easy, but i have high hopes:
i-MgMFV8W-XL.png

dont worry, we will work on it....
i-Gdmxqth-XL.png

this is like a sculpture, you have to work it, but you need to add material first,
i-6ZSR88d-XL.png

Having added the back section, it is Obviously way off, BUT dont despair, because then you can sculpt it:
i-6DMg5WW-XL.png

look what i did, shaved a bit more by using the technique of inching each and every surrounding anchors:
you have to work all of them:
i-fsHbrpf-XL.png

even the ones way after the corners you are trying to work on... they are all interconnected, and affect each other:
i-36C8M2g-XL.png

I try to use the wide track-side as much as possible(so i can add more itrms and decors later), but sometimes it is not possible, so there:
i-gnQtv39-XL.png

Believe me, i am not yet satisfied, i need more time to sculpt it and work it some more:
i-hRBwxw5-XL.png

i-37fhbGK-XL.png

i-bDm3f3v-XL.png

Let's focus on this troublemaker:
i-bsRBpX6-XL.png

What i need to do does not seem to be allowed/possible:
i-BfNQQJb-XL.png

Let's zoom out and see how bad it is:
i-wBM7N5h-XL.png
i-wBM7N5h-XL.png

No good, i am not satisfied yet, let's work it more:
i-wnMz8h5-XL.png

i am really not liking this:
i-9CNZHHw-XL.png

something's gotta give:
i-9s2fjzq-XL.png

i-r2fLn4p-XL.png

this is now the second corner i am not entirely convince:
i-qBJn5Qg-XL.png

But i might have to move forward and come back again later:
i-sd7cXjL-XL.png

So far, i am not even half-way through:
i-wSNxzxn-XL.png

Let's work on the next few corners:
i-JkT2hR4-XL.png

same techniques used above:
i-j4m9KHN-XL.png

trying to make a right hand corner, but it doesn't want to let me:
i-6zbMBkX-XL.png

yet another problem-child:
i-D7PsSTr-XL.png

keeping at it:
i-Fpb9H4k-XL.png

inching up:
i-BMH5r7w-XL.png

i will come back again (3 corners to come back so far)
i-BdswDbn-XL.png

i-FWCxLXz-XL.png

i-v8VBx2b-XL.png

This is the secret for making tight corners possible:
i-drMZM2X-XL.png

As said before, you need to add the next section, and the rework that same corner again.

i-RGLdNd3-XL.png

i-RMqV6Hj-XL.png

This is going to be the 4th corner to come back, let's make a mental note:
i-TbF5mL5-XL.png

i-tG86w3D-XL.png

i-vZCnJpP-XL.png

i-xFQ7L6z-XL.png

This is spot on, guys, try to zoom in as much as possible, but keep on zooming out also to see the big picture:
i-GX33LqL-XL.png

i-Rg4264d-XL.png

i-fQRC496-XL.png

i-wdrmVRs-XL.png

i-jTfKwTV-XL.png

i-KrCf32C-XL.png

how does it look now:
i-8Lt6rFX-XL.png

i-6Cxtmj3-XL.png

where the main straight should be, but we got barely 450 meters vs 600 to fit!
i-5WsHMsb-XL.png

i-jMMBLnj-XL.png

i-tcTd8W3-XL.png

i-cZjdGzH-XL.png

a slight improvement:
i-nsjC9LW-XL.png

i-74SqT6T-XL.png

i-DHWZ6Vx-XL.png

I could and i should make it straight, but for some reason i made the track go left at this point:
i-DJ8mxWq-XL.png

i-scHSXPn-XL.png

i-2Rkmnp4-XL.png

i-HkkZnnJ-XL.png

At the time of the design, i forgot to check and i didnt know the GP track would be going straight here.

what do you think ? (
i-HkkZnnJ-XL.png

well, this doesn't seem to be easy, with all the last corners remaining to do:
i-BnPLMk3-XL.png

There is the BIG issue:
i-KL9VGXr-XL.png

i-NJF2q3b-XL.png

i-6sLMvWT-XL.png

time to improvise:
i-njJksH7-XL.png

mirror image as best as i could the last corners:
i-xVDbPSV-XL.png

i-3Tt4PLS-XL.png

What do you think ?
would you do it ?

This is kinda late now, but i will be duplicating this track and FIX all the above errors as best as i can for the next version of this track, starting with moving the home straight up to give more track-side room for the last corners, but it still does not look too promising ;(

Despite it all, i think this is a great track !!
It is spot=on the exact same distance and length as the real track, so what are you going to complain about ;)

I honestly enjoy driving this track, and i hope you do/will too.

Please add comments, suggestions, or critics or simply download to give it a try/go ;)

Just a reference for Where to put the stands:

At the next opportunity, i will update the track (or add another version) to make it even closer to the real GP/F1 track:
i-w5GLnqh-XL.png

This is the F1 GP track i will try to do later, most likely the corners before the long straight will not be replicated exactly, and the two flip flap corners either...
i-2QSFTMD-XL.png

Eventually, i will also try to replicate these different formation later:
i-XgrjLnX-XL.png

Further reference:
i-BRpKKbD-XL.png

Somewhere Online(shown below), there is this idea of improving the track with this new formation:
I am also going to give it a try later:
i-cwrTQGR-XL.png

As you can see, i am planning to further improve and even make several versions of this Yas Marina track.

Please vote if you want to see more of it ;)

Thanks for sharing such a great, step by step guide to making realistic tracks, the images really tell the story. And thanks for making such a good replica. I definitely agree with you about making tracks the right length, I strive for this too.

A couple of tips:
* according to this FIA document the 'reference width' for Yas Marina is 12m rather than 13m. So if you were prepared to start over, you could perhaps use that and get slightly tighter turns.
* For the main straight, the official Start/Finish straight has an even wider surrounding area than the regular track. If you shifted the Start/Finish section a bit further down that long straight, you could have a normal straight with decreased 'corner radius' on leading up to it - this would give you the space to get the final hairpin a lot closer.

Looks really nice. The only thing is, you could've gotten the last corner there if you moved the front stretch down to the middle of the backstretch :c Still really really nice job tho!
