DETAILED STEP BY STEP on how i created this track:
First: the Scale !
IF YOU WANT TO KNOW HOW TO PROPERLY SCALE YOUR OVERLAY MAPS, go here:
Refer to my post here on how to set your scale:
https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/thre...-scale-a-track-creation.335273/#post-11008786
Once i chose my scale, i overlay (import) the map into the app:
i pinched it and moved it to have both the scales showing:
Got to make it equal to my satisfaction,
time to go on the next step:
Now, it doesn't seem i can properly fit the home straight where it should be:
I couldn't put the main straight where it should be without affecting the corners and driving lines that are before and after it...
Due to the Track App limitation of a 600m straight, i had to reposition the start/finish line on the longest straightaway:
not such a bad compromise...
Now let's set the track width...
knowing there are a couple tight corners, i was afraid of making this track too wide, so i set it at the lucky number 13 meters wide!
Let's start drawing:
"First corner":
Going too wide:
So i am going to decrease the corner radius (remove of the side decor):
adjusting the straight to help shortning the corner:
looks like we will be able to clear it:
keep in mind that you will have another corner coming up, so you might want/need to add it now, and readjust later properly:
Actually this step should have come one step earlier because if you look at the previous shot, i would not be able to add the following corner due to the track-sides touching each other.
This is due to the wider track-side with each new sections added.
Having added the next section, i am still trying to make that first corner as close to the real thing as possible:
you basically have to inch forward, going inch-by-inch, step-by-step, and repeat until you get perfect:
still a long way to go, and as you can see, if you were to make it exactly like the real thing, the tool doesn't let you, your track side would be colliding and creating a parallel universe... Kaz thought about it and of course wouldn't let that happen.
Let's move on for now, and we can always come back, sometimes it is easier when you have more sections following, because each corner is not only being affected by what came before, but also what is coming up next (2 or even 3 steps ahead):
zooming out to see our small little progress:
I dont give up, i am giving it another try:
moving as many anchor as possible, (like a puzzle) to see which combination of positions will yield the closest results:
a bit of improvement, but not fully yet, this wont be easy:
I am moving on for the second time, i will come back to the first corner later:
this section should be easy, but still i need to make sure it is perfect by zooming in and out as i add the sections:
(Except for the first corner,) Not bad so far:
Another tight corner coming up... let's hope i can make it:
Just like driving, you need to set yourself up PRIOR to the corner:
it's not gonna be easy, but i have high hopes:
dont worry, we will work on it....
this is like a sculpture, you have to work it, but you need to add material first,
Having added the back section, it is Obviously way off, BUT dont despair, because then you can sculpt it:
look what i did, shaved a bit more by using the technique of inching each and every surrounding anchors:
you have to work all of them:
even the ones way after the corners you are trying to work on... they are all interconnected, and affect each other:
I try to use the wide track-side as much as possible(so i can add more itrms and decors later), but sometimes it is not possible, so there:
Believe me, i am not yet satisfied, i need more time to sculpt it and work it some more:
Let's focus on this troublemaker:
What i need to do does not seem to be allowed/possible:
Let's zoom out and see how bad it is:
No good, i am not satisfied yet, let's work it more:
i am really not liking this:
something's gotta give:
this is now the second corner i am not entirely convince:
But i might have to move forward and come back again later:
So far, i am not even half-way through:
Let's work on the next few corners:
same techniques used above:
trying to make a right hand corner, but it doesn't want to let me:
yet another problem-child:
keeping at it:
inching up:
i will come back again (3 corners to come back so far)
This is the secret for making tight corners possible:
As said before, you need to add the next section, and the rework that same corner again.
This is going to be the 4th corner to come back, let's make a mental note:
This is spot on, guys, try to zoom in as much as possible, but keep on zooming out also to see the big picture:
how does it look now:
where the main straight should be, but we got barely 450 meters vs 600 to fit!
a slight improvement:
I could and i should make it straight, but for some reason i made the track go left at this point:
At the time of the design, i forgot to check and i didnt know the GP track would be going straight here.
what do you think ? (
well, this doesn't seem to be easy, with all the last corners remaining to do:
There is the BIG issue:
time to improvise:
mirror image as best as i could the last corners:
What do you think ?
would you do it ?
This is kinda late now, but i will be duplicating this track and FIX all the above errors as best as i can for the next version of this track, starting with moving the home straight up to give more track-side room for the last corners, but it still does not look too promising ;(
Despite it all, i think this is a great track !!
It is spot=on the exact same distance and length as the real track, so what are you going to complain about
I honestly enjoy driving this track, and i hope you do/will too.
